5 out of 5 eggsI can't believe I waited this long to buy a mechanical keyboard!

This review is from: Rosewill RK-9000V2 BR - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches

Pros: Classic styling, beautiful in its simplicity

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: I decided to write this review mainly because of the simple joy of typing on this keyboard. I bought this keyboard for office use and selected it primarily for it's reasonable price, relatively quiet key set, and classic aesthetics. It's my first mechanical keyboard and I'm already in love with it. I really wish I had not waited so long to purchase one.

None of the common complaints have been an issue for me. Connected without issue (even works well during BIOS setup, which I have had issues with other keyboards). Mini USB plug is actually very nice with my keyboard tray as it routes the cord to the left side, which works perfectly for my setup. I dont' find the LEDs to be too bright at all, but I'm in a well light office, not a dark bedroom.

5 out of 5 eggsI collect mechanical keyboards and own six now. This may be my favorite of the bunch.

This review is from: Rosewill RK-9000V2 BR - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches

Pros: - Genuine Cherry MX switches - most other "bargain" brands have gone to knock-offs, including the folks at Das Keyboard and another popular brand for cheap mechanical keyboards with a "single price"
- Great "minimalist" design with traditional-looking key caps. the new "single price brand" boards have this awful looking font as well as non-cherry switches
- Braided cable
- Beautify (and heavy) metal back plate
- choice of all four major switches (the "single price brand" doesn't offer a "brown" version)
- N-key rollover and 6-key rollover over USB - my old Model Ms are limited to 2-key rollover

Cons: - Detachable cable - would brefer a non-breakout cable with an adapter rather than separate cables. the connection looks sturdy but I've heard stories about broken connectors on the V1 version. I just don't see the need for a detachable cable, especially with an obsolete (mini-usb) connector
- for some reason, I cannot get into the BIOS on my computer when this keyboard is connected via PS/2. it works fine when connected via USB, and my Model Ms with native PS/2 connectors also work. If anyone knows anything about this issue, let me know. It's a mystery, but I just leave the thing connected via USB. I don't need NKRO, i got by with 2KRO for a long time, so 6 is more than enough.
- No blank option (like das keyboard ultimate)
- no tenkeyless options

Other Thoughts: I collect mechanical keyboards. I like to snag old Model Ms off auction sites and from other folks who are "getting rid of old equipment". That's how I originally got bitten by the "mechanical" keyboard bug. These days I find I prefer keyboards with a Windows key, given that's the environment I spend most of my time. Originally I bought a Unicomp Model M, so I could have the best of both worlds. While the Unicomp was okay, the keys were really stiff (even compared to old model Ms) and it eventually died on me - no idea how it happened. So I decided to try some Cherry MX-based boards. My first one was a MX Blue from that "single price" brand, still have it and really like it. The click sound is a bit much, though, and more shrill than on Model Ms. Decided I wanted to try an MX brown board for home use, where I type and also game. I now have two MX blue boards (one in regular use) and this MX brown board, along with all my Model Ms. The Rosewill is my favorite keyboard of the bunch right now. It is just a joy to type on, great combination of features, genuine Cherry MX switches, fantastic minimalist design, and that red metal backplate is just one of the most satisfying, subtle detains I've ever seen. I'm tempted to buy more of these boards and put them on every computer I use regularly.

1 out of 5 eggsSerious Connectivity Issues

This review is from: Rosewill RK-9000V2 BR - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches

Pros: The few hours it maintained a connection, it had a very nice feel.

Cons: It does not stay connected. Tried it on multiple machines with Windows 7 and Windows 10 (new-ish hardware) and it does not stay connected. Was going to RMA but after a bit of research, decided to return it and go with the Cooler Master. It was a wise decision.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as desired, and cheap!

This review is from: Rosewill RK-9000V2 BR - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches

Pros: Bought this as a gift for my girlfriend who wanted a matching mechanical keyboard for work. Overall, it's great. The brown switches are kind of the perfect mix of small amount of feedback and quiet actuation.

Build quality is almost as good as my Das Keyboard so I'm very pleased. It's just worked for her so that's good.

Cons: The removable cord is a bit easy to pull out, but that's not the end of the world since the keyboard rarely moves around.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent mechanical keyboard

This review is from: Rosewill RK-9000V2 BR - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches

Pros: This was my first mechanical keyboard and I had to do some research on the different switch types to determine which I would like the most. From that I determined I would probably like brown switches, which I do, since they are quiet-er and responsive.

The keyboard itself is also nice and heavy, feels extremely sturdy and won't move around on the desk at all even if on a slick surface.
The superkey lock is kinda nice, I had to use it at first while I was first adjusting to the keyboard since I would accidentally rest my palm on the superkey; but I don't seem to need it now that I'm used to the keyboard.

Cons: The default key-repeat rate is strangely slow; though, on windows it can be arbitrarily adjusted via general keyboard settings, so I just fixed it from there.

The angled usb input on the keyboard itself (The wire is detachable so you can swap between a USB or PS-2 output) is a little bit weird, would much prefer just a normal straight cable. Not a big deal, though.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but...

This review is from: Rosewill RK-9000V2 BR - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches

Pros: This keyboard has a solid/hefty feel and grippy rubber feet so it stays where you put it. Also, it has keys located where they belong (unlike so many lesser keyboards.) I like the feel of the Cherry MX Brown keys even though it has been tough adjusting from keys with a longer stroke and firmer feel.

Cons: I had to withhold an egg due to the long delay before repeat and the slow repeat rate. I have adjusted the keyboard settings in the Win Control Panel for the shortest delay and the fastest repeat rate, but that didn't help. If I hold down a key for 10 seconds (for any character,) I get 37 characters. If I repeat that test with my spare keyboard I get 260 characters. This key board is way too slow.

Another problem is that hitting the same character twice quickly, as in typing "ball", the the second "l" is lost. It works fine if done slowly, but seems to be filtered out when done quickly. That appears to be true for any key, including the backspace key as another reviewer mentioned. That is a serious problem.

Other Thoughts: This would be a five-egg keyboard if Rosewill fixed the speed and lost character issues.

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid for 6 months now

This review is from: Rosewill RK-9000V2 BR - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches

Pros: Heavy weight keyboard with excellent Cherry MX brown switches. Connected to gigabyte Z97 board, USB, Windows 10. never a single problem, no keys sticking, not working, etc. Used by my wife who is a 110 word per minute typist and if it wasn't right I would never hear the end of it. I am enjoying the silence from her on this keyboard.

Cons: Not backlit at this price. and yes, the LED's are bright. but if you don't like that, put a little piece of magic tape over them or drop of rubber cement to peel off later. They do not bother most people.

Other Thoughts: Real Cherry switches at a great price in a solid basic keyboard for every day use by those who prefer mechanical switches in the workplace. The bashers are the fake reviews, not this one.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best quality Cherry MX board money can buy at this price

This review is from: Rosewill RK-9000V2 BR - Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switches

Pros: -Excellent build quality; the thick steel backplate is far from a gimmick
-Amazing price for a Cherry MX board of this quality; full 104-key size, at that
-Both included cables are thick, flawlessly-braided and gold-plated; admittedly a bit stiff, but can be bent to shape
-Rubber tipped collapsible legs; make a world of difference, especially combined with the sheer weight of this board

Cons: -W, A, S, D, and left Shift keys are fading after less than 9,000 clicks each; standard for laser etched key caps, to be fair
-LED's are extremely bright; they will light up the ceiling in a dark room (I swear they just stuck Christmas lights in this thing)
-A continuation of the above, this includes the Windows-key-lock LED; I can't comfortably use it because of how bright it is. It's honestly distracting in a fully-lit room while trying to type or play games, and painful to have on even in my peripheral vision.

Other Thoughts: I'd have to do some serious nitpicking to come up with any more cons. I can easily say there's not a thing about this board that I can fault at this price other than the excessively bright LED's. I'd absolutely recommend an RK-9000v2 to anyone in the market for a mechanical keyboard.

Five eggs, Rosewill. Five eggs.
