You've built the ultimate gaming rig with a great processor, fast video, a stunning display and superb sound. Now you need a keyboard to match, the M1 from ABS. This is not some throw away unit that will die on you in the middle of a firefight or party raid. This is a fully mechanical keyboard designed to keep you in the game.

It doesn't have all the extra keys common today, it's just a solid 104-key unit than can handle just about anything. Each key has its own mechanical switch. You will feel each key click as it traverses its 4mm path so you know that it has been pressed.

The full sized keyboard is made with minimal extraneous space. The different sections are all close together to keep your hands on the keys and not wandering about hunting. The smaller size lets you keep mice and joysticks closer to hand as well. Capping it all off is the gold plated USB connector for maximum connectivity.

  • newegg Mechanical Key Switch With high-quality mechanical key switches, the ABS M1 delivers accurate, smooth keystrokes and 20-million click endurance, great for professional gaming control or heavy duty text typing.
  • newegg Gold-plated USB Connector The gold-plated USB connector ensures maximum conductivity, significantly reducing latency for optimal gameplay.

5 out of 5 eggsBring Back the ABS M1

Pros: Please bring back the ABS M1.
The quiet, high-quality ALPS switches are fantastic.

Cons: You can't hold down as many keys as they originally claimed, but you don't use enough fingers for this to matter in the real world.

Other Thoughts: We need more mechanical keyboards. We especially need more keyboards that use the ALPS switches.

I hope that the Rosewill keyboard line will feature both silent and clicky ALPS switches some day.

2 out of 5 eggsZ key stopped working

Pros: Everything a mechanical keyboard has to offer
Cheap

Cons: The Z key stopped working after 4 years, which for me is unacceptable for a keyboard that promotes itself as being sturdy

I didn't spill anything in it either, and for the most part this keyboard was sitting in storage.

Other Thoughts: Will be buying a regular keyboard after this mishap

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Sturdy and amazing keyboard overall You can read all about how well it functions and the cable being well designed. I LOVE THIS KEYBOARD

Cons: Newegg ran out
LED's are BRIGHT (near annoying) but nothing 3 pinholes in Electrical tape cant fix

Other Thoughts: If you can find THIS specific M1 ABS Mechanical Keyboard anywhere for 20-60 bucks then BUY IT.
It will take a beating and still work amazing
I have dropped this over 100 times (i play games and work from my lap) a key has never came off. It never stopped responding and has always worked well. Never worry about stickey or loose key or a dropped keyboard.

5 out of 5 eggsBRING IT BACK!

Pros: Sturdy mechanical keyboard with excellent tactile feedback. Also very heavy duty cable.

Cons: NEWEGG STOPPED SELLING IT!

NEWEGG HAS NO GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO THIS KEYBOARD SO I WILL HAVE TO LOOK ELSEWHERE.

Other Thoughts: This was the only keyboard I ever ordered for new systems.
The only TRUE alternative is to find old IBM Keyboards but they are all in ivory and they are a deeper keyboard so have issues with desktop space.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Keyboard - Get it back in stock!

Pros: Excellent keyboard. Extremely durable. A pleasure to type.

Cons: because it's USB, and not PS2, occasionally gets confused with keyboard accelerator software. But that is true with ALL USB keyboards

Other Thoughts: Have one, and want two more - please get it back in stock.

4 out of 5 eggsFaked Clack Is Bothersome!

Pros: Solid build. Heavy. Cloth wrapped USB cord. Full keyboard. The keyboard looks really rugged.

Cons: The clack technique feels like a sleeve c-o-c-king (not a bad word) on a shaft, jamming and then bottoming out. The hydrostatic shock is bothersome. This is NOT a negative spring--it's a faked clack. Mechanically, it feels worrysome, bad suspension with a rattling travel. One sitting, and you know it's not a real M1.

Other Thoughts: It's just a noise maker. Too bad because it's built well.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Keyboard!

Pros: Replaces the IBM Model M. It's about 85% of the noise of a Model M. The feel is good. It's a more compact footprint and has taken a couple of days to get adjusted to. That said, the smaller footprint is so worth it, and yes, you can blaze the keys like you can on the Model M. Best of all, it is new school USB.

Cons: May get you in trouble. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: For those who haven't used a mechanical switch keyboard - the switches are a lot more noisy than your typical membrane keyboard. They have an entirely different feel as well. It is a more tactile experience and far more effective for accurate high speed typing. It's probably not the best choice of keyboards if you are likely to annoy other people with your typing. On the other hand, it's also a groovy way to be a snob, broadcasting your mad WPM skills to your hunt and peck coworkers. Of course, if you want to be obsessively annoying, paint out the letters on the keys so that they know you're a touch typist. Of course, if they give you a soap in a sock pounding for being a jerk...

2 out of 5 eggsDo not like the feel/layout

Pros: Well, it's mechanical - should mean it lasts a long time. To be fair I've never had a membrane keyboard ever wear out on me - I've broken them but it's not their fault, more mine. Looks decent, I've noticed many other keyboards that cost way more than this one look IDENTICAL except the brand stamped on them - I'd save the money and go with this one not the others which you're paying for brand name. A few use different keys but MAKE SURE you like the layout - most gamer keyboards have the dip in the caps lock that you may not realize is such an important feature to you (Trust me it is). These layouts do NOT have the dip. It does feel well built and not cheap, but the key feel is the most important feature of any keyboard you plan to use for typing/gaming.

Cons: The feel and layout. I came to this from a Saitek Eclipse (Red Edition) which had the exact layout I like. Like I said, the HUGEST thing to complain about on this - no dip on the caps lock key. If you're like me, you rest your left ring finger right there and use it to locate the WSAD keys quickly. No dip means I cannot find my bearings anywhere near as quickly. After over a week of regular typing I still can't get it right, it's just too uncomfortable to me. I also do not like the feel of these keys. They require too much force to actuate - I frequently will be typing and thinking I hit a key and I have to go back and re-hit a key where it didn't go off. Stretch keys are very bad for this, in my case the 'T' key was the worst but it happens sometimes with all the keys. Maybe well built but I hate the keys - these are Black Alps (Tactical, no click) but as a first time mechanical user I do NOT recommend this keyboard as a first.

Other Thoughts: This keyboard is very fatiguing to type on for me. I have to forcibly press the keys down much harder than I did on my Saitek and they don't feel particularly more solid - just more resistant to my fingers. I didn't find the Saitek too easy to depress, but as I said these keys frequently go part way down when I push them and don't actually show the letter on screen. I never had this problem on my Saitek. The point of actuation is too far down IMO, not a good keyboard to do a lot of typing on. Sure it's well built and all, but what matters is how well it types and this keyboard simply drives me nuts. The way it provides feedback only works for me if I bottom it out and it is harder to do than my Saitek was (being membrane of course). I'm boxing it back up after this review and stuffing it in the closet. This keyboard requires too much force to use. Check out a keyboard with Cherry Browns, they require the least force - they're the next ones I'm trying.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat mechanical keyboard!

Pros: This is a very sturdy keyboard and will probably last a very long time. The cord is nicely braided and thick which I didn't even know about until I opened the box. The feedback on the keys feel amazing when typing.

I mostly use it for surfing the internet or playing FPS games on it.

Cons: - It's not exceptionally loud but it does make a bit of noise when typing. I would definitely not use this for writing an essay as it would give me a headache.

- The LEDs are a bit bright. Just place some black electrical tape over them and they won't be a nuisance.

- The cord is kinda short. It's about 4 feet long so make sure you measure before buying this keyboard or have a USB extension.

- No multimedia keys but you can download software like SharpKeys 3.0 and assign certain keys.

Other Thoughts: For $20 shipped this was a great investment.
