Built on the proven success of the SteelSeries 7G, the new 6Gv2 utilizes gold-plated mechanical no-click switches and a powerful buffer-system to provide gamers with advanced key combinations and increased Actions-Per-Minute (APM). The extreme “anti-ghosting” feature allows as many simultaneous key presses as there are keys on the keyboard: Move, crouch, aim, fire and even check the scoreboard, all simultaneously in first person shooter games. SteelSeries’ Media Controls offer quick access to volume, mute and other audio controls. The mechanical tactile system is ergonomically designed to ensure ease-of-use, while the no-click switches and iron-infused plastic makes the 6Gv2 both comfortable and durable, with an unrivaled lifecycle of 50 million keystrokes. Like a tank, this “heavyweight gaming keyboard” is not the prettiest chick in the beauty pageant. It doesn’t glow or pulse. But it packs a punch. A serious one.

  • newegg Mechanical Switches SteelSeries 6Gv2 is built with mechanical no-click switches, which provides a highly different users experience compared to using the “soft feel” keys found on conventional keyboards or even laptops: low latency and fast response.
  • newegg 50 Million Key Presses, and it’s heavy The 6Gv2 offers a lifecycle of 50 million key presses per key, which is more than 10 times of the amount than conventional keyboards. The 6Gv2 is also physically heavy. All keys are mounted on a metal plate within the keyboard to ensure durability. The plastic material used to create the keyboard has metal elements, also to help to improve durability.
  • newegg Consistent Tactile Feedback The 6Gv2 offers more than just a long lifecycle. The rubber domes on a conventional keyboard will, over time, lose their tactile feeling due to rubber flexing. The keys you use the most will start to feel different. The physical construction of the mechanical switches used in the 6Gv2, and the strict tolerance levels in which the switches are manufactured, is what allows the key presses on this keyboard to always feel consistent.
  • newegg Travel Distance - Increased APM With the 6Gv2 you don’t have to press the keys all the way down for them to register. The mechanical switches will register key presses fast; the travel distance will be roughly 50% shorter than a conventional keyboard. You will type faster, with a consistent tactile feeling. Your Actions Per Minute (APM) can reach new heights with the 6Gv2 thanks to this feature.
  • newegg Redefining “Anti-ghosting” When using the PS/2 connection on the 6Gv2, you can press as many keys as you want at the same time, all of the key presses will go through and be registered by your computer. When using USB, you can use up to 6 keys plus modifiers at the same time, which is the highest spec limit a USB connection can accommodate.
  • newegg Media Controls, No Windows Key The Windows key has been replaced with a SteelSeries Key that won’t wreak havoc during a gaming by minimizing your game or by opening a menu. The SteelSeries Key serves a different purpose: it’s a function key for the Media Controls found on the 6Gv2. Press the SteelSeries key and access the Media Controls via the first six F-keys on the keyboard. No additional rows of space consuming keys translate to a compact and easy to transport keyboard.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after five months

Pros: Good mechanical keyboard ,nice while it lasted.

Cons: Same problem as every one else with the usb in the back. Doesn't seem loose but stopped working. For this price you would expect better quality. Will RMA and try to replace at least. Steer clear of this one or you'll wind up like the rest of us.

Other Thoughts: Bummed it stopped working, was great while it lasted. Very annoyed something so expensive died like that.

2 out of 5 eggsMediocre keyboard; not very durable

Pros: This keyboard is quite heavy and will not move when you type on it. Also, it's a lot quieter than its Cherry MX Blue/Red counterpart. The only sound that is made is the key bottoming out.

Cons: After a little over 1 year of use, my [1] and [5] keys experience very frequent chatter. Chatter = one key press registers multiple times. Those are the keys I use frequently in Starcraft 2 (1 for army, 5 for hatcheries), so after 1 year of use, it just goes to show that this keyboard isn't very durable.

Other Thoughts: The fact that the keys began to chatter only after 1 year of use is enough for me to discontinue purchasing SteelSeries products in general. Be wary when purchasing this keyboard--multiple key presses are far from ideal when gaming and it can cause many headaches in the future.

3 out of 5 eggsSmall problems

Pros: Great tactile response, Great keyboard.

Cons: Key Layout: The tiny right shift key will be a BIG problem for a lot of people along with the backslash key being right next to the right shift key.
Keyboard Print: The print on the keys wear out VERY fast. I was gaming for 2 hours straight right after I got the keyboard and my WASD keys faded away slightly.

Other Thoughts: This could have turned out to be an impeccable keyboard but Steelseries made a few mistakes that ruined it.

2 out of 5 eggsHas Potential

Pros: Great feel and response. SteelSeries function button on left instead of Windows key. Minimal size.

Cons: Num, Caps, Scroll lights turn off for no reason. 4 Key began to malfunction after a few months. Key lettering looks like it's had 10 years of use after a month. I wish I RMA'd it earlier.

4 out of 5 eggsLove this keyboard for typing / games

Pros: I type a lot, so I bought this keyboard in with the Cherry Black switches, instead of the Cherry Red. It's been good for games, but it's been GREAT for typing. I have always loved a good mechanical keyboard, because it keeps me from banging when I type.

I have noticed a little bit of wear on the key labels after heavy use in the past 3 months. This doesn't really both me as a touch typist, and I also type on this sucker a lot. It may be that lighter, more general use would see these labels last forever, but my most frequently used keys are wearing. Of course, as a touch typist, my most frequently used keys are the ones I never look at, so YMMV.

Cons: I agree with others that the left Windows key being removed is a little disorienting at first. I got over it quickly.

The movement of the backslash key also threw me off at first. It's down between the forward slash and right shift, and my other keyboard has it above the carriage return (Enter) key. However, this is actually how my older keyboards had things laid out, and I find I like that older arrangement better once I was reacquainted with it. It just seems to make sense.

Other Thoughts: This thing is wired, which I personally like.

It supports the old PS2 port, which can help by freeing up a USB port.

One thing to note is that the keyboard is does not have an "ergonomic" (read: funky) layout. I know people who won't use a keyboard that isn't "ergonomic." Personally, I have found that resting the wrists will make any keyboard uncomfortable, and lifting the wrists makes a standard keyboard actually the more ergonomic option. I prefer this kind of keyboard, but my father who also types a lot (and rests his wrists) eschews this in favor of a similarly expensive split keyboard. Clearly, opinions differ.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Keyboard Ever!

Pros: Great tactile feedback! I love the way it types! The anti-ghosting is amazing and it really has not failed to perform when I have needed it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: People complain about the letters rubbing off but I have had no problems for over 9 months. I am very pleased with the product and will buy from Steelseries again. :)

3 out of 5 eggsNot for me

Pros: Solid construction, great anti-ghosting capability, small footprint, heavy.

Keys feel very well-constructed.

Cons: I didn't research the keyboard well enough before buying and found two deal-breakers after purchase. The first is that the left-shift key is shortened to allow space for the backslash key, which has been moved from above the enter key. The second deal-breaker, and even more of a big deal for me is that the left windows key has been replaced by a SteelSeries function-type key and can't be remapped back to the windows key. Given how often I use shortcuts in W7 (and I never, ever, use the right windows key) I just couldn't adapt. I think this is more of a European-style keyboard, and it's definitely not for me.

Of lesser importance, but for people reading reviews, I found the Cherry MX Black switches to be too stiff for typing. The feel was solid but I felt like my fingers were going to fall-off if I had to type a long note.

2 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this product

Pros: Great keyboard, mechanical switches feel nice.

Robust build, rests on a comfortable angle

Cons: It stopped working, and so did the SteelSeries Sensei mouse I bought.

Every time I touched anything in the USB's the Steelseries products would should off and stop working. Then I would have to fiddle with them for 10-15 minutes, so they can get their poor hardware in place. It finally gave out today.

I am typing this on my trusty old keyboard that has stayed true to me all these years, it was a mistake to invest so heavily into a SteelSeries keyboard

Other Thoughts: If you are investing this kind of money into a keyboard, please for your own sake go to a more reliable, stable company whose products are much, much better than SteelSeries.

It's too bad I had to suffer making that mistake.

I did not buy this on Newegg, I bought it a local vendor

4 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Nice key action, simple, smooth. If you want a keyboard that doesn't have all the bells and whistles this is the way to go

Cons: The keys fade very quickly, which wasn't terrible. However some of the keys register 2-3 times when I press them once. The typos start to get annoying

Other Thoughts: I don't know who handles the warranty, whether it's newegg or steelseries, but hopefully I don't get the same issue with another one.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple, solid, beautiful.

Pros: Fantastic response from keys
Comfortable to use, doesn't feel awkward or unnatural
Incredibly heavy and stable, doesn't move a centimeter while playing/typing

Cons: Lacks any special features or backlighting you might find on more elaborate keyboards. Not enough to take off an egg, because I feel that it makes up for this by devilering fully in all areas that I find important.

Other Thoughts: I got this for Starcraft and writing, and spend most of my time doing one or the other. I am happy with this for both activities. I noticed on day one that my WPM average went up by 10 instantly, with less errors. If you're looking into this keyboard, keep in mind that there are some switches that are easier to press down than the black cherry that comes on the 6GV2. If you don't mind/want black cherry switches, I would highly recommend this keyboard.
