4 out of 5 eggsCaution Windows 8.1 Users

Pros: Big keyboard! If you have large hands, this keyboard will be appreciated. Nice wide wrist support, well-spaced keys, comfortable to use.
The Shift is heavy, and even the much-appreciated 2 level risers have rubberised feet, so this keyboard isn't moving anywhere when gaming.
Once the firmware was updated and the software recognised the board (see Cons, below), the WoW keyboard set is pretty neat. It's certainly not vital to playing the game, but the shortcut keys are convenient and save the communication channel typing, and the Roll button is great.

The media keys along the left side work very nicely and are a perfect distance away, preventing accidental pressing or being too close to make use of, and not so far they become unusable on the fly.

Cons: The software (Steelseries Engine) and firmware does not play nice with Windows 8.1. Out of the box the Shift is a decent keyboard, but you need the firmware updates and software to make use of the keyboard's primary features (the swappable key sets, macro recording, gaming profiles).
Attempting to update the board on Win 8.1 results in a closed loop of failure to update, and the software will not acknowledge the board.
I had to plug it into a Windows 7 machine and update the firmware, then plug it into my 8.1 machine where the software was installed. That resulted in success, at which point the WoW keyset would work.

The macro keys are across the top of the keyboard, which results in quite a finger stretch for even a large-handed person, and the space between the number keys and function keys is unusually wide.

Other Thoughts: This gaming board is not mechanical, which is a neutral for me, but may be a negative for some people. The keys feel nice but they are soft presses, which is very quiet, but if one is accustomed to a mechanical board for gaming, the Shift will feel very mushy.

The lack of illuminated keys is disappointing for a gaming board, but again not a showstopper.

The split spacebar is strange, due to the fold in the keyset. But one gets used to it rather fast. I'd have liked for it to be separately bindable but it unfortunately is not.

The bottom line for me really is that the Shift is a sturdy and stable board. I was getting tired of my Logitech sliding all over my desk while gaming and missing keypresses. I didn't buy the Shift for the swappable key feature, and it's a neat gimmick but isn't going to refine your gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsNice, Nice, Nice!

Pros: Beautiful keyboard! Keystrokes are nice and smooth. Very easy to install and use. Come with both the standard keyset and the Cataclysm keyset.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: More than meets my expectations as both a regular keyboard and a WOW keyboard.

If your into WOW, Or even if your not and you just need a great keyboard, I highly recommend this!

As an aside, I think its kind of funny how the only negative reviews here on this keyboard come from non-verified owners. Should tell you something.....

5 out of 5 eggsBig Imporvements

Pros: I had the original Ideal Zone board and was really shocked at the upgrades on this model. The keys are smoother, the insert is easier, very solid construction, easy to install, plug and play for the most part. Install of the software was a snap. Steelseries knocked it out of the park with this one. I bought the board just for WoW since I am a short cut key junkie and this model is wicked cool.

Cons: None that I can tell at the moment.

Other Thoughts: Works great with the WoW Steeleseries mouse. Both go hand in hand together.t

Pros: Sounds Good

Cons: Cata keyset (Clamp)arrived broken from Factory Shipment-Neweeg did not have it in stock-would have ordered from them. Wasted a month
No tele to call. Cost me $14.75 to ship back. waiting
Using other standard keyset-software does not reg. keyboard-uning windows 7-so worthless. Better send me new, not refurbished unsanitary dirty keyboard.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Keyboard

Pros: This is a good, solid, feature rich keyboard that provides a lot of flexibility to customize to your liking.

Cons: The macro creation software has a bit of a learning curve and there are a couple bugs that cause the software to crash without warning (ie clicking the button to change the key font or key color). Still the software works to accomplish its main function which is to create macros and keybindings.

Other Thoughts: Again this is a good, solid keyboard that I feel will last a long time and is well worth the money I paid for it.

I did have a problem when I first plugged the keyboard in with the steelseries software recognizing it, but it was because I switched out the standard keyset for the cataclysm one before plugging it in and installing the software. If you have a similar problem with the software recognizing the keyboard, just uninstall the software, put the standard keyset back in and try reinstalling the software.

1 out of 5 eggsWould be great if....

Pros: Seems extremly solid in design

Cons: tech support
It simply does not work! (software dont recognize hardware)

Other Thoughts: this is now my third keyboard and all 3 times i have had the same problem on my vista machine..."Please connect a steelseries compatible device"...thier tech support is thru thier website only as they dont list a number and after waiting 2 weeks for a reply to my post to thier support people and getting no response, i give up...if your ok with no tech support what so ever and your fortunate enough to get the keyboard working then it seems like it would be nice...but if ur like me and have a keyboard that dont work..dont expect to hear from anyone on thier side to support thier product and prepare yourself for a $110 paper weight
