4 out of 5 eggsI love the keyboard... but

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: My husband and I have had these keyboards almost a year. I picked it out, and I love the keyboard itself as I wanted a light touch and can feel when keys actuate. So it's perfect for me. I enjoy the product design, where it's metal (snuggly cat doesn't push it around) and then super easy to clean!

Cons: Husband hates the keyboard because the keys are so sensitive, he can't feel the actuation, he quit using it finally after months of complaining. As most others various lights have gone out on both boards and one actually has a flickering key light even when the lights are off, and my volume lights/buttons are dead... the only ones I cared about. Going to RMA both, as I don't care about the lights any keys except the volume ones and a random flickering light is just obnoxious when lights are off.

Other Thoughts: If you don't care about the LEDs, and like a light response, keyboard is AWESOME.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat board, but way too many dead LED's

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: Excellent board. Great feel, solid frame/design and looks gorgeous. I was looking for a mechanical keyboard in the same fashion as the Logitech G510 with the 18 G-keys and since Logitech dropped the ball on that one, I went with Corsair. Which to me, was all well and good considering I'm a bit of a fan boy (800D/Dominator Ram/H110/AX1200/LED fans)So hands down it's a 5 star board, but...

Cons: ...after just under five months of usage, LED's for the back lit keys are dying. It started with the 1 on the number pad which was DOA. Sad that it got passed QA that way, but I was willing to live with it. Fast forward to today, I currently have nine dead LED's with a few that are dim on their way to death. Compare this to my Logitech G510 I had for over a year with zero dead LED's. I don't know if this is because of a faulty batch of LED's or a underlying problem with some of the electronics on the board. Either way, for the price, completely unacceptable.

Other Thoughts: All in all, fantastic board. No regrets in buying, just disappointed that my board is slowly but surely killing all it's LED's. When that happens, one of the main reasons I bought the board will be nonexistent. If you plan on purchasing, know this may happen and to Corsair, you guys need better QA with your recent products. Not sure how this will effect my future in purchasing Corsair products, but it will definitely make me a bit more hesitant than I've been.

3 out of 5 eggsPerfect Keyboard Accept.....LEDs

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: Very high quality feeling keyboard
Excellent key feedback
Great Layout
Good Software
Pretty backlighting

Cons: You guessed it.......LED Failure

Other Thoughts: I originally had 2x of the K70 Gun metal with Blue lighting, with blue switches. After about 6 months on each board, the LED's began to start randomly dying out. Both keyboards have since been replaced, one with this board, which since RMA the G18 key has dimmed out, not died, just dimmed, so not a good sign of things to come. My replacement K70 black, with blue LED's is still going strong, but we'll see how things overtime. The LED failure rates in these keyboards seems totally odd, given Corsair makes such fine quality products & this has been a known issue for sometime. They also have some of the best customer service you will find. Supposedly their RBG keyboards do not have this LED failure issue, but you also must now pay a PREMIUM more for what this product should have been in the first place.

3 out of 5 eggsLED's Go Out, Decent Otherwise

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: Feels great when typing. Just enough feedback from the sound to know when you've entered the keystroke.

Cons: Led's are starting to flicker and go out.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Design, poor QC

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: Great keyboard design that fully utilizes key-by-key LED for gaming.

1) Great feeling keys are soft and responsive
2) Mechanical Keyboard enough said.

Cons: LED Quality Control is a major problem.

1) LEDs on the "," and "home" buttons are already dead after less than a week of use.
2) Instructions on how to program key-by-key LED settings should be put into the downloadable driver software.

Other Thoughts: I'm disappointed such a well thought out keyboard that appears to have no mechanical issues is struggling with LED reliability of all things. Perhaps it is time for Corsair to reevaluate their LED parts supplier.

5 out of 5 eggsUltra smooth key action, lighting no problem

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: What a unique keyboard! To start with, this keyboard uses Cherry MX "red" mechanical switches. What that means is that the action for the keys is linear. In other words when you start pushing the key the force required is even until the key bottoms out. Depending on your usage, that can be good (gaming) or not-so-good (touch typing). For gaming, the linear key setup just works better; I found that my timing was much more consistent when hitting repeated keystrokes and I was able to repeat them faster than with any other type of keyboard.

The keyboard comes with 18 "G" keys that you can program with macros. They're helpful, and as an additional bonus they're aware of what application you're in, so you don't have to manually load a different keyboard config when you're switching games/apps.

The lighting has three customizable banks, so you can light/extinguish individual keys. I didn't really see much use for this feature, so I predominantly had everything lit the entire time.

Lighting levels are three levels + off. Very handy if you're in a dark room and trying not to wake somebody! Additionally the keyboard comes with a "lock out the windows key" switch, so you can't accidentally hit it while getting your donkey kong on.

Cons: For actual typing speed, this style of keyboard (while still good) isn't optimal. I'm a fairly fast touch-typist, and my 'daily driver' is a buckling spring type keyboard (think original IBM noisy type). With that type of keyboard I can easily clock in 116 WPM with 99.5% accuracy when I put my mind to it. For comparison, I then switched in the K95, and my score immediately dropped to 103 WPM with 98% accuracy. I attribute this to the linear action; with a buckling spring keyboard as soon as you feel the spring 'give' you know that the switch has made contact and you can switch to the next key. With a linear keyboard there is no such feedback, so you have to go allllllll the way down to the keyboard's base. That means longer time spent for each individual keystroke, and thus lower WPM. But if I didn't have a buckling spring keyboard to directly compare against I'd be in love love love with this keyboard; it's just that I'm in love x4 with my buckling spring one.

Other Thoughts: The keyboard's keys are entirely raised, which looks very strange at first glance. Basically if you took a regular keyboard and removed the top-most bezel, you'd have the same idea. But once you get used to the idea, you'll understand the genius-ness of it -- it allows you to shoot compressed air underneath the keys for cleaning! (It also allows any crumbs or whatever that accumulate underneath the keys to fall out!) That's AWESOME!!! Finally a keyboard designed with the idea that you're not just going to throw it away when it gets dirty!

Other reviewers have noted that some lights go out on single keys, which is why I held off on reviewing this one for so long. After a month of continuous usage almost eight hours a day, I don't have a single key light that's gone out. Pretty sure Corsair has licked whatever problem they were having with the keyboard's lights.

All in all I'd be more than happy with this keyboard as my daily driver, whether using it for gaming or for touch-typing. It's not the absolute best for touch-typists, but it's no slouch, either.

4 out of 5 eggsK95 White

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: This is my first mechanical keyboard, honestly is it a pleasure to type on. I end up looking forward to typing on this keyboard.

The individual key lighting is very nice, compared to keyboards which have a bunch of LED's all over the place.

Volume nob is really nice, I honestly prefer a scrolling nob over the physical buttons for changing the volume level.

It has a switch on the edge of the keyboard which allows you to adjust the response time of the keys to 1ms,2ms,4ms,8ms and a BIOS mode which will allow the keyboard to function in older BIOS's where it would not otherwise. USB pass through is also nice but not a feature I would end up using, the braided cable is a plus but it at awfully thick.

Only having it for 2 weeks it seems like it was build rather well.

Cons: The keys are too sensitive for me. I end up depressing them with just my fingers resting on them, which is a bit frustrating when playing FPS games or really any game where you are constantly at the WASD keys. Coming from a non-mechanical keyboard (Sidewinder X4) where I could rest my fingers on the keys no problem this has become and issue for me.

The left hand side of the keyboard with the G keys feels like it was added on as an after thought, on the top surface there is a visible line dividing the keyboard and the G keys and the brushed aluminum surface turns into plastic on the G keys. I was hoping there was a way to remove the G keys but that is impossible, as I have my keyboard under my desk I end up sometimes hitting the G keys instead of the normal keyboard which is what I was aiming for.

The placement of the volume keys and other keys at the top edge of the keyboard is a little difficult to get at when you are using a keyboard on a keyboard try under a desk with about 3-4 inches of distance between the desk and the tray.

Other Thoughts: It is a little strange to me that the there is northing around the edges of the keyboard, however this makes it much easier to clean under the keys and remove them, without damaging the plastic of the keys.

Make sure when you download the software get the software tor the K95 (non-RGB), I by accidently downloaded the wrong one and the software would not work.

The software allows you to record macro's, and adjust a few other small settings and have hardware playback of the macros instead of software playback.

Overall this is a decent keyboard, but for my gaming I would probably end up getting a keyboard with different switches.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far it is perfect!

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: -Feels great
-Red switches are great with the way the keys are raised up
-18 programmable keys for macros or whatever else I decide I need over there
-Easy to use media controls
-Ability to disable Windows key for gaming
-Multiple Profiles
-Individual key backlighting (with multiple brightness levels)
-Very nice aesthetics
-Very easy to switch back light settings
-Wrist rest is actually nice too
-Easy to use software
Lets start off with this is the nicest-feeling keyboard I have ever owned. The raised keys are very nice to type on, and I think they go perfectly with the red switches as far as how the whole thing feels overall. Beyond just that, the brushed aluminum looks great and gives the whole keyboard a very high-quality feel and look. I love the separate media controls and especially the volume control being a roller instead of buttons.

This is the only keyboard ever where I have used the wrist rest. It is nice and soft without being squishy, and it actually attaches using screws, so when I move my keyboard around it doesn't fall off!

The 18 extra programmable keys are nice. Always nice to have a lot of keys for macros. Beyond just that, it seems as if every key can actually have its function changed if you prefer a completely custom setup for gaming.

The software is pretty simple and straight forward. I found it very easy to use and figure out.

Cons: -Does not have headphone/mic inputs build into the keyboard
-Only 1 USB port
-No software install CD

I was a bit sad to see no headphone hook up on the keyboard. My old one did have that which was nice when I was using my wired headset. Also, most gaming keyboard I have had have 2 USB ports built into them, this keyboard only has one. The software must be downloaded from the Corsair website, there is no installation CD. Generally I would recommend getting the software from the website anyways, but it is nice to have the CD as an option in case your internet is out or something like that while trying to get this set up. None of these are huge deals, just things that I thought could have been done differently to make the keyboard a bit better.

Other Thoughts: -The keyboard is longer than others
-Other reviews about LED reliability

My wife's keyboard is just a standard layout and normal-sized, it comes to be about 17 3/4" long, this keyboard is 2.5 inches longer at 19 3/4" long. this is no problem for me, but something that should be taken into consideration if desk space is a major issue.

Other reviews I have read about this keyboard lead me to question the reliability of the LEDs. So far, mine have been perfect, but it is something I will certainly look out for. I will post an update if there are any issues with the LEDs in the future, so far they seem great though.

Another bright side to this keyboard is that with the raised keys, it seems that my cat finds it to be an uncomfortable bed. With previous keyboards I would find my cat sleeping on the keyboard. So far, he seems to avoid doing that with this keyboard!

4 out of 5 eggsVery good

This review is from: Corsair Gaming K95 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - White LED - Cherry MX Red Switches

Pros: First is that it’s a mechanical keyboard. Having used many non-mechanical Logitech and Microsoft keyboards over the last few decades going mechanical is huge. You can type faster and with higher accuracy which is great.

Once you plug it in it’ll function instantly without driver installs. All keys independently have their own backlit LED and you get presets. It also has a dedicated button to light power to make it brighter, softer, or turn it off. That’s great for if you have it in a bedroom and want to get some shuteye.

The volume scroller has a nice feel as well. The cable feels a lot like the Corsair modular PSU casing which is a good thing. It’s durable and looks better than a regular cable. It's also quite long. I sometimes jack this into a PC using a TV as a monitor and it gives enough length to sit at a distance.

It feels extremely solid to use. It has a heavy construction that seems like it’ll last years. It’s actually pretty sensitive.

I just started playing FFXIV again after some patching and gave this a great multi week test through its paces. It's really nice. Fast and responsive. The macro buttons are easy to setup and register in the game. This really changed it up from a standard keyboard. I remapped almost all of the keys to make better use of the G keys on the left side. I tried going back to my old keyboard and it felt like rusty buckets. There is no chance I can go back to a non mechanical keyboard now.

Cons: The keys even after weeks of use sometimes are almost too responsive. I often accidentally hit CTRL and random keys on which my hands set like J/F. Just barely putting weight on them will fire them off nonstop. I'll notice sometimes while I'm reading I ended up having a page of F's being typed.

It doesn't feature USB pass through. It takes up two slots and no pass through available to help alleviate that.

Other Thoughts: Lots of people have been having LED issues. I don't have many months of testing to see how mine fares but the LEDs are all lighting well. They are really bright so I often keep it in the lowest dim setting to give just enough if I have to glance down for something.

The way the keys are raised can be slightly uncomfortable if you use this in a lap. I know that most will have it on a desk and on a desk with the wrist pad it works well. I use it this way for most uses. However if I drag it to a living room to sit on a couch you end up angling your wrists in a way that makes it tiring to use.

Overall this is a very sturdy keyboard that types well. I'm pleasantly surprised at the build sturdiness of this keyboard.
