You’re sold on the tactile awesomeness of the das keyboard, but need it a bit more on the quiet side? Maybe you’ve got super-noise-sensitive coworkers, or you spend a lot of time on the phone while you type. Perhaps you just want to keep this little beauty to yourself. Whatever the reason, we’ve got you covered. The “silent” model, which sounds much like a regular keyboard, gives you a superior keystroke without all the (albeit cool) racket.

Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate Silent is blank, with no inscriptions on the keys. It features high-end, mechanical key switches that click less than its cousin, the Model S Ultimate. This quieter model is ideal for people working in an open environment or for workers who need to type while talking on the phone. The Model S Silent keeps its outstanding tactile feel. The other features are identical to the Model S Ultimate, including a two-port USB 2.0 hub and newly redesigned electronics that provide full n-key rollover.

  • newegg German-engineered mechanical key switches Das Keyboard compares to the legendary IBM Model M. Its best-in-class mechanical gold-plated key switches provide a tactile and audio click that makes typing a pure joy.
  • newegg USB 2.0 hub The high-speed USB hub allows you to sync and charge your iPhone, iPod or any USB compatible devices.
  • newegg Extra-long USB cable Das Keyboard sports a 2-meter (6.6ft) cable that goes through your desk grommet to keep your workspace neat and tidy.
  • newegg N-key rollover Model S allows full n-key rollover with a PS2 adapter, and 6 keys with USB. Great for fast typists and gamers alike.

5 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for.

Pros: -Very comfortable and natural feel.
-Doesn't wear unevenly, unlike cheaper keyboards. Every key needs the exact same force to register. This means you can type faster without accidentally transposing letters because one clicked a little faster than the other.
-The extra weight makes it more stable during heavy use.

Cons: -"Silent" is a bit of a misnomer. It's definitely louder than non-mechanical keyboards, but it isn't too bad either.
-Can be difficult for non touch typists (friends and family).

Other Thoughts: I bought this as my first mechanical keyboard 3 years ago, and haven't looked back. It's the little things. You really don't notice the problems with rubber dome keyboards until they're gone.

It's a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard When Alive

Pros: I used this keyboard at work for the past 19 months and it types really well, provides great feedback, and looks awesome.

Cons: My keyboard has died today, keeps getting really hot by the led indicators and did melt some of the plastic to create a dent in the frame. I look online and find out there is no manufacture warranty. I expect a $130 keyboard to come with something like this and must have overlooked it. I also expect a mechanical keyboard to last more that a year and a half. Cool keyboard but disappointed in what feels like wasted money.

5 out of 5 eggsRediculously Cool

Pros: - Awesome Feel
- Awesome Sound
- Awesome Aesthetics
- Saves desk space
- Keeps siblings and friends off of my computer

Cons: - Shows dust easily (minor)
- Thick cord comes a bit kinked up (minor)
- Makes it impossible for siblings and friends to borrow my computer

Other Thoughts: This keyboard is heavy. It's almost like it's built out of actual stuff. My old keyboard was wireless and had more keys and a larger footprint, but weights substantially less. Makes me think that my old keyboard was made of styrofoam.

Best of all, it comes with the most effective security feature you can find for your computer, and you don't even have to install it: the near certain inability of those around you to operate a keyboard without looking for the keys. Good luck guessing my password when you can't see what you're typing!

5 out of 5 eggsA typing experience like no other

Pros: 1. Mechanical keys are pleasant to type. Going from a non-mechanical keyboard to a mechanical keyboard was a big upgrade for me so I really appreciate the tactical feedback from typing.

2. The typing noise is pleasing and give me reassurance when I hit a key.

3. Very quick registration from the keyboard to my screen. The response from the keyboard registers faster than I can type, so I feel very confident when typing on this keyboard and I feel obligated to type faster than I normally do.

4. blank keys makes the typing experience a challenge and pleasing. From typing on this keyboard I discover my own weaknesses when I type; such as constantly looking down or mistyping certain letters without looking.

5. Typing passwords is a challenge and fun!!

6. Invasive-People Repellent

Cons: *no distinctive negative comments

Other Thoughts: I bought this keyboard for the experience of typing. I definitely got my money's worth the second I started using it. When I had a normal labeled-keyboard I found myself cheating very often by looking down to see the first letter I am typing. This keyboard has challenged myself to learn to type without having the assistance of labels and I could not be anymore satisfied from the experience. From this keyboard I can feel my typing skills getting better everytime. Its a good keyboard overall.

Buy it if you want a challenge at typing and, when you do buy it, you will feel your typing skills getting better overtime!

Very good buy!

1 out of 5 eggsUnlucky?

Pros: Feels like a solid board, I like it for typing and gaming. Not a whole lot of difference with some other mechanical keyboards I tried like rosewill etc.. but this definitely feels better

Cons: My enter and backspace key squeaks... pretty bad.... might just be unlucky but who knows going to RMA this...

5 out of 5 eggsLittle typing ninjas

Pros: This keyboard is great! This is my first mechanical keyboard and I was kind of skeptical that the price was worth it. After only typing on it for part of a day I'm hooked. The response from the keyboard is fantastic and it very addicting to type on. I have tried both speed typing, programming and gaming on this so far and it all feels great.

Cons: It isn't really "silent." With the o-ring mod it muffles the sound and makes it feel a bit more like the standard run of the mill keyboard. I personally didn't appreciate the difference the orings made and decided not to install them. I would say if you are looking for true silence you look at something other than brown switches.

Other Thoughts: Soooo addicting. The sound, the smell, the feel, and all the things. It is overall great. Many people complain about the glossy finish, but I don't really see that as a downside because I don't rest my hands on that part of the keyboard and it really doesn't collect that much dust. I really like the response of the keys and how they sound. I also bought the keyboard straight from the das keyboard website, but thought I would leave a review on newegg because that is where I normally buy all my computer stuff.

4 out of 5 eggsvery nice keyboard

Pros: The keyboard is quite sturdy, and the addition of two USB inputs in the keyboard means you dont give up any to use this, or if you use the PS/2 adapter, you come away with an extra one.

Cons: the polished look will easily show fingerprints and scratches over time, even with the included cloth.
Also, while the USB hub is great to have, it is not in the best location on the keyboard, which is right where I am using my mouse.
The cord is very thick, and so i had to drill a larger hole in the pull-out tray in my desk to fit it through (this isn't worth docking an egg however, just a heads up)

Other Thoughts: This does not have any printed keycaps at all, and while it does not detract from the quality, it does pose a problem for people who are not touch-typists. I wanted to get the printed keycap version of this when it was on sale, but they were gone fast.

Also, while the keyboard title says that it is silent, it only refers to the MX switch type that is used, the MX browns, which produces a less audible sound than the MX Blues, which are made to produce a clicky sound every time they register a keypress.
One of the advantages to mechanical keyboards is that you don't need to press the key all the way down(referred to as 'bottoming') to be sure that the keystroke registered.
The only reason I can think that anyone would say these are louder than the Clicky/MX blues is because they are bottoming out their keypresses. If this is an issue, then there are sites that sell modified keycaps with rubber stoppers on the bottom to prevent the bottoming clack sound.

1 out of 5 eggsGuys really?

Pros: Not much pros for me ....

Cons: It is soooooo loud I can't even do anything with this keyboard. Don't believe the silent part in name of this keyboard. I can't even listen to music while typing with this keyboard. This keyboard might make you feel like you are typing fast with this loud sound but It is annoying me so much right now. I am programmer I need to type a lot. How am I gonna concentrate on work when there is gonna be so loud TAH TAH sound every time I click this keyboard....

Other Thoughts: May be you can use this stupid keyboard for music like drum.... But, not for silent keyboard that you can use for working. I bought this keyboard just looking at 5 stars in rate and silent in name because I didn't have much time when I looked at it. If you don't like loud sound and haven't memorized the keyboard yet, don't buy this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Keyboard!

Pros: This is the first mechanical keyboard I've bought and I am quite happy with it. The unit has good weight and looks great to boot. The buttons feel very crisp and it isn't uncomfortable to use. The USB ports are a nice touch and I love the overall sleek-but-subtle design.

Cons: This keyboard isn't exactly "silent" and doesn't have any special features. It also picks up fingerprints and debris easily but obviously that is going to hold true for almost any keyboard that is used on a daily basis.

Other Thoughts: I bought this keyboard to use at work and to help to correct the bad typing habits I've picked up over the years. It's definitely helped me and now I am getting much better and more accurate at laying down text, which is terrific!

4 out of 5 eggsNot silent, still great keyboard

Pros: This keyboard feels dependable and looks great. It has a really good feel and great key action.

Cons: Silent? Not in the slightest. I upgraded from the original Das Keyboard model (which isn't quiet at all, either), and it's actually both louder and higher-pitched than the original Das Keyboard.
