Features

Cherry MX Switches

Das Keyboard uses best-in-class, Cherry MX mechanical key switches that provide tactile and audio feedback so accurate it allows you to execute every keystroke with lightning-fast precision. Its high-performance, gold-plated switches provide the best contact and typing experience because, unlike other metals, gold does not rust, increasing the lifespan of the switch. The Das Keyboard 4 Professional mechanical keyboard is available in both the Cherry MX Blue and Cherry MX Brown switches.

Das KeyboardDas Keyboard

Das Keyboard

Cherry MX Blue Switch (Clicky)

The Cherry MX Blue switches are the most popular switches for typing because they have a "clicky" tactile bump when the activation point is hit. This feedback helps to increase typing speed by reducing effort needed to push the keys all the way down. The Cherry MX Blue switch is the most "clicky" of the Das Keyboard line.

Das Keyboard

Cherry MX Brown Switch (Soft Tactile)

The Cherry MX Brown switches have a soft, tactile bump about halfway through the key press. The Soft Pressure Point switch technology makes the mechanical keyboard a little less clicky while still providing an awesome tactile experience.

Das Keyboard

Oversized Volume Knob & Dedicated Media Controls

With its large volume knob, Das Keyboard 4 allows users to quickly adjust volume while on a Skype call, in a Google hangout, or streaming online music. The Das Keyboard 4 also provides quick access to dedicated media controls such as mute, play, pause, next and previous track. A quick-access instant sleep button has been added to save energy while going to lunch or attending meetings.

Das Keyboard

USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Hub

Need to transfer videos to your workstation but don't have time to wait all day for file transfers to complete? Don't worry. Das Keyboard 4 has a blazing fast two-port USB 3.0 hub to transfer music, high resolution pictures and large videos at up to 5Gb per second. That's 10 times faster than USB 2.0. It is backwards compatible with all USB 2.0/1.1 devices and hosts so previous peripheral investments are protected.

Das Keyboard

N-Key Rollover

Gamers and fast typists will love to hear that Das Keyboard 4 supports full n-key rollover (NKRO) over USB. No need to use a PS2 adapter anymore. Just press shift + mute to toggle NKRO.

Das Keyboard

A Brand New Das Keyboard Font

Das Keyboard's key cap font has been specially designed to provide ease of reading and harmonious view of the keyboard key caps. Das Keyboard's font looks modern while keeping some of its lines from older, well established fonts. The overall result is sleek and easily readable while not drawing unnecessary attention.

Footbar = Ruler

We got tired of those itty bitty plastic keyboard feet. They are fragile and typical. The magnetically detachable Das Keyboard footbar raises the keyboard to an optimal 4-degrees. It looks sharp and can be used as a precise ruler when not in use as a footbar. 16-Inch red ruler is scaled on both sides. A ruler? Why not!

Das Keyboard

Extra Long Cable

Das Keyboard 4 sports a 6.5ft (2-meter) cable that goes through desk grommets to keep your workspace neat and tidy. Now equipped with only one USB cable to power keyboard and USB hub at the same time.

Das Keyboard

Every Detail Matters

Featuring a stunning look, Das Keyboard 4 Professional has been completely redesigned with a slick anodized aluminum top panel, a resonance-free bottom enclosure, a magnetically attached footbar, and a laser-engraved aluminum bottom label - all which make the design feel more bad ass and the typing feel more responsive.

5 out of 5 eggsDas Keyboard 4

Pros: +solid build quality, metal top panel, I feel like this keyboard may outlast my computer
+mx brown switches feel perfect
+2 usb 3.0 on top of board
+media keys look/feel nice
+quieter than other mx browns I have used
+price, while on the higher end, using it everyday, this keyboard is worth it

Cons: -no back light
-would have been nice to have a braided cable
-ruler used to prop up the board is hard plastic and allows the keyboard to slide around

Other Thoughts: The switches just feel right. For something I use everyday I do not mind paying a bit extra.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat --not quite perfect

Pros: It's a mechanical keyboard sporting MX Brown switches. If you've used Brown switches before, then that's exactly what this keyboard feels like. Nothing new here.

The dedicated multimedia keys are nice, as is the footbar instead of standard plastic feet.

The super key uses the Das Keyboard logo instead of the Windows logo, which is nice.

Cons: The footbar perhaps doesn't incline the keyboard as much as I'd like, but it's fine as-is and I could get used to it. It inclines it by about 4 degrees.

The volume dial can only be comfortably changed from the side of the keyboard. With the short height of the dial, and the surrounding buttons, using it with your fingers on different points around the dial just feels claustrophobic. Changing it from the side would be OK, except that it's slower and each notch on the dial changes the volume by only 2%, so changing the volume will be very slow. As an alternative, I would like to see a small round indention on the top of the dial so it can be changed quickly with just a finger. Or, alternatively, simply given more surrounding space and with increased height relative to the surrounding area.

The lights are somewhat bright, even when looking from the normal position you would be at while using the keyboard. If looking directly into the light, it would burn through your retina. I do not like the electronics industry's obsession with bright blue LEDs.

Even using the mode with enhanced NKRO does not have full N-key rollover. That's to be expected from a USB keyboard, but this keyboard does not come with a PS/2 adapter, and it does not work with the adapter which came from my Professional 3. So in this regard, it is a small downgrade coming from the Professional 3. However, based on my testing, it should work plenty fine for basically everything.

4 out of 5 eggsGood mechanical keyboard

Pros: Brown mechanical Keys
Volume and media controls
Built in 2 port USB 3.0 hub

Cons: My biggest complaint with this board is the way the aluminum top hangs over. I just can't seem to get used to it.

Other Thoughts: 2 weeks of using this and I've decided to give it to my father. He needs a new keyboard badly anyway. Ordered a Filco Majestouch 2 ninja blue switch. I should have gotten a blue switch to begin with....

5 out of 5 eggsbest keyboard I've ever owned

Pros: - Fantastic build quality. It feels solid and doesn't slide anywhere.
- Quieter in comparison to other MX Brown keyboards.
- The volume control knob has clicky feedback which lets you know every time you change the volume, which is AWESOME.
- The USB 3.0 ports are high throughput (I can transfer large files just a quickly as plugging into my tower).
- Doesn't show dirt easily and zero fingerprint marks from (aluminum?) matte finish.
- Keyboard cable is solid rubber; will NOT be easily trashed.
- NKRO is worth mentioning; I can bang on this keyboard with both of my hands and it'll capture every keystroke.

Cons: None whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: I wish I would have bought this keyboard sooner. It is such a pleasure to type on every day.

5 out of 5 eggssmooth

Pros: Wonderful tactile and auditory feedback with just the perfect amount of resistance. I feel like I am typing twice as fast as my baseline. The angle of the keyboard is excellent with the "ruler" base installed. Having audio adjustment easily found without taking eye off screen. I also like the mute key right next to the wheel which can also be found easily without taking eyes off screen if the phone rings. It is nice a heavy and this helps resist the tendency for my other keyboards to slide around. I had to put my last keyboard on a rubberized tablemat to keep it in one place. Lastly I love having USB 3.0 slots on my desktop. My monitor provided 2.0 but this clearly faster.

Cons: I really need a wrist support or I get my carpal tunnel flaring. I ended up needing to get some nice gel supports. This keyboard seems expensive for what I am getting but I have been disappointed in nearly any other keyboard I have. This one I like. Problem is now I want one for home too.

If you type part of your day on a laptop then switch to this you will hate your cheap dinky laptop to the point you find yourself avoiding it which might make you less productive. I say this only semi-joking.

Other Thoughts: They may be "brown" switches but they are still a little heavy on the click feedback. Yes it provides feedback but people around you might hate just how fast you are typing.

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: - This keyboard has an excellent feel. The keys have a magic touch and it just feels fantastic to type on. The keys are easy to read and there are no mechanical problems. The keys are very quiet for a mechanical keyboard and are not much louder than a plastic keyboard.

- The rubber stoppers ensure it doesn't slide around.

- It's heavy and feels durable.

Cons: This is a very expensive keyboard. For the price, I was expecting a much better product. I'm going to be picky because of the price.

- The magnetic ruler which serves as a platform to raise the keyboard is too short. I'm currently writing this review with the keyboard propped up using post-it notes.

- There is no stop button on the media controls.

- The oversized volume knob seems nice, but in actuality it doesn't feel great to use.

- The entire keyboard has a plastic rim that runs on all sides and it drives me nuts - I'm always bumping into it with my thumbs.

- The top of the keyboard feels like fake plastic lumber (the kind at home depot that is used to make decks). It just doesn't feel right.

- The keys are small and it feels compact, especially the control keys. The corners of the keys feel too sharp. Some of the keys, like the shift and enter have too much friction when pressing them on their sides and not directly in the middle of the key.

- There is no backighting except for the caps lock, number lock and pause indicators.

- USB slot in back of keyboard (a con if you have limited desk space).

Other Thoughts: I purchased this after trying a Corsair CH-9000067-NA Vengeance K70 Mechanical Keyboard with Cherry MX Brown Switch. The Corsair was superior to the Das Keyboard in almost every aspect. For a casual office person, this would be a good keyboard. For a gamer or programmer, I would not recommend this because it simply doesn't fall into a superior category, despite Das Keyboard's marketing videos. I will definitely be doing a return on this and sticking with the Corsair.
