5 out of 5 eggsWhat a fine Piece of equipment

Pros: Owned since 2004 or 2005
Flawless color and clarity
Easy and very versatile menu settings
Raises, tilts, rotates 90 degrees
Very solid construction, I've moved 3 times and this display doesn't seem to care.

Cons: Had to buy and replace (2) 1000ma, 25v capacitors in 2014. Its an easy fix if you have soldering equipment, and was basically free.
Also experiencing a thin blue line running from top to bottom.Probably my fault from when I took it all apart. All I have to do it bend the monitor and it goes away for a while

Other Thoughts: Wish it could go 75hz.
Samsung is my go-to monitor of choice whenever I decide to update just because of how happy I am with this display. Hopefully they continue to make quality products.

4 out of 5 eggs205BW Economical Purchase

Pros: This monitor has good image quality and response time for its price range. I don't notice any 'trailing or ghosting' when I play games like NFS Most Wanted. I might notice a little 'ghosting' though when I play a game like FEAR. Also when the monitor shows black backgrounds on games it could be a little darker. You notice the light of the monitor coming threw on very dark backgrounds. If you don't think about it to much you will not really notice it.

Cons: My only real CON about the monitor is the stands on some of these monitors are defective. After you have the monitor for a couple months you will notice it starting to learn forward. I thought maybe I just had it adjusted wrong on my desk but when I went to adjust my monitor I could not adjust it back to the way I had it.

Other Thoughts: Even though my monitor was defective, Samsung has an excellent warranty and service department. They replaced my monitor with a refurbished one in about 3 business days. If you need a big monitor and you are on a seriously low budget this monitor is a fair deal. But if you do not want to deal with possible stand issues spend a couple more dollars for a more upscale monitor.

2 out of 5 eggsBad, Bad Experience

Pros: Big, Flat, Wide, Screen

Cons: Well other than the fact that I am on my THIRD one...

1st monitor: broken computer cable receptacle on monitor.

2nd monitor,(new) The hinge that conects the stand to the monitor broke, and I noticed ghosting after a few months

3rd monitor (refurbished): Three dead pixels and a lot of ghosting.

Other Thoughts: It seems many others had good experiences with this monitor...

I did not and I will not EVER buy another Samsung monitor.

I'm going to stick with View Sonic

2 out of 5 eggsInitial joy goes sour

Pros: Gorgeous 1680x1050 screen, with full HDCP support. No dead pixels is a huge bonus.

Cons: After a few months the tensor spring that tilts the screen up and down has gone bad and the screen sits at about a 60 degree angle to the ground. I've been resolved to put the screen on top of a big stack of books, where the angle has gotten worse and worse. I cannot even bend it up, it's completely stuck down.

Other Thoughts: I thought Samsung knew how to make a quality screen. Seems to me that they always did. However after searching through the (letter a)mazon I've found that I am not alone with this issue. I wish Samsung would address this issue.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat monitor

Pros: Zero dead pixels. Crisp, razor sharp text. Bright, but not so bright it burns your eyes. Backlight bleed is negligble. I'm convinced backlight bleed is unimportant to most computer users and they only obsess about it because they think they should. Newbies need to understand they will have to adjust the color to their liking... most noobs judge a monitor on how it looks straight out of the box. I'm getting beautiful colors with my ATI Radeon Catalyst Control Center. And make sure you aren't running 2 color adjusting programs at once; they'll mess with each other and your picture.

Cons: I honestly can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: I bought a 24 inch Gateway widescreen before this. The Gateway was a PVA panel, but when I started working on it I soon found out it was TOO bright. And the thing had so much current going thru it it hummed and put off so much heat it was unbearable. I returned the Gateway for this Samsung, and I'm very happy. The Samsung's colors are just as vibrant, and you can adjust the brightness to just the right level. The Gateway had 1 brightness setting: nuclear. I'm much happier with this Samsung and it cost only half as much.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Crisp display, great color, sleek design and minimal bevel clutter.

Cons: A combination of minor backlight bleed (not so prominent in the current hardware revision) and the 700:1 contrast ratio means that blacks are always, at best, "dark gray".

Acceptable viewing angle, but colors shift within a very narrow viewing angle, so much so that solid blocks of a single color that fill up a significant percentage of the screen appear graded.

Total backlight failure in less than three months.

Other Thoughts: After a month of ownership, a few minor problems occurred. Once or twice the monitor's backlight would fail to fire up when the monitor was turned back on from a low power state in Windows XP and Vista.

A few weeks later, on two or three occasions, the screen would suddenly go all white with grey flecks, then turn itself off.

A few days ago, I experienced a combination of these problems. The right-hand side of the screen developed a sort of "hall of mirrors" effect, which lasted 30 seconds, then was followed by the white/flecks problem for another 30 seconds. The monitor then turned itself off.

Attempts to turn the monitor back on simply resulted in a blank screen and the power LED blinking off/on every 5 seconds.

To cut a long story short, the backlight failed. Samsung have a decent replacement policy, but alas it means I'll be stuck with with a factory reconditioned unit three months after I bought a brand new unit. Very disappointing.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Product

Pros: This is an amazing monitor... My first wide screen LCD. Excellent color quality, contrast, and image quality. Definitly worth the money spent for a high quality midrange priced monitor.

Cons: Screen has slight bleeding with black/dark images on bottom/top sides are not bad.

Other Thoughts: Great monitor for the price, bleeding isnt horrible but its an lcd what can you do... A great buy for a nice monitor upgrade

5 out of 5 eggsMy first LCD, and it couldn't be better

Pros: I'd always preferred an "old-school" CRT monitor. From what I had seen of LCDs in years past, I believe they all had problems with ghosting, backlight bleeding, and color reproduction. I can safely say that I was wrong on all of those points. There is no noticeable ghosting (even during fast games such as F.E.A.R.) and the backlight bleeding is only noticeable when you're looking for it. The height adjustment is very nice--there's absolutely no problem with it no matter what position it is in. The colors are bright and vivid and look just as good as my top-of-the-line CRT monitor.

Cons: None for me. The cables are visible which may be a problem for some, but that's what you get with an adjustable monitor.

Other Thoughts: I was hesitant to switch to LCD, but I can say that it was something I regret not doing sooner.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor, great deal

Pros: Great for gaming fast response.

Cons: arrived with one stuck pixel, massaged it back to life.

Other Thoughts: 6-bit panel with dithering, but 8-bit panels are slower response time. I have not noticed any difference in quality however.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Monitor for the Price

Pros: Fantastic! Great price and amazing real estate. I am very pleased with my second Samsung LCD.

Cons: Disclaimer: I am incredibly picky about monitors. This is a very good monitor.
* Narrow viewing angle.
* Use only native resolution. Text/graphics are not crisp in other modes.
* Color setup is not straightforward. Out of the box is good (a bit bright), but to get colors to be true will take time/frustration using the SW provided.
* Could use a rotate feature or at the very least the ability to adjust to be parallel with the surface.
* 1 dead pixel. Shows up on black backgrounds, e.g. movies. Otherwise, not noticeable.

Other Thoughts: I spent literally hours reading all the reviews of the various Samsung monitors on Newegg and others. I believe this monitor to be the best bang for the buck. Of course, Newegg has delivered once again in excellent time and price.
