Conserving energy isn’t simply just a trend but a new way of life. Samsung’s LED backlighting technology provides MEGA Dynamic Contrast for crystal-clear image quality and detail along with a robust number of intelligent, Eco-friendly features. The SA550 is the smart way to conserve energy without compromising the performance of your monitor. The Eco Motion Sensor has the ability to sense the user’s presence and will automatically shut off the monitor when you walk away. The Eco Light Sensor feature automatically optimizes the screen’s brightness to reduce eye strain, while Eco Saving allows you to choose how much energy you’d like to save through an easy-to-use interface. The amount of energy you save is conveyed by an “Energy Tree” graphic so you can see if you’re attaining your energy-saving goals.

In addition to these energy saving features, the SA550’s has a gorgeous and innovate design. It features a Touch of Color finish, and its transparent stand sports a built-in compartment to hide unsightly cables.

  • newegg Breakthrough Picture Quality with LED Technology Samsung's LED monitors deliver a visually stunning picture quality that leaves you speechless. Just as you’ve seen in Samsung LED TV’s, our LED monitors make colors more rich and the action more real than you’ve dreamed possible. Let the story come to life with vivid colors and crystal-clear detail.
  • newegg Optimize Your Viewing Experience with Eco Light Sensor Take the strain out of watching images on your monitor with Samsung’s Eco Light Sensor. The Eco Light Sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the Samsung LED Monitor by measuring the intensity of the light within the room. By controlling the amount of light used to create its images, the SA550 monitor reduces eye strain while being extremely energy efficient. Plus, the Eco Light Sensor provides up to nine adjustable sensitivity and brightness settings so you can enjoy a lighting environment that’s most comfortable for you.
  • newegg Eco Motion Sensor Knows When It’s Being Watched Using a highly advanced sensor, the Samsung LED Monitor can detect if someone’s watching it or not. If you walk away, the built-in Eco Motion Sensor will automatically shut off the monitor after a few minutes, making it easy on your energy bills. The Eco Motion Sensor responds to body temperature so you know that it won’t turn on unless someone is in front of it. That means the monitor will automatically turn off if you’ve stepped away for a long period of time or simply forgot to shut it off.
  • newegg Perfect from Every Angle with MagicAngle Ever look at your monitor from an angle? Did the display look washed out, distorted or just hard to see? Samsung’s MagicAngle technology improves the off-angle viewing performance of the monitor so that it maintains superb image quality even if you are leaning back, lying down, or have the monitor mounted on the wall. Activating MagicAngle is simple. Just go into the monitor menu and select your screen position from one of four monitor angle settings. Once set, you can enjoy images in full clarity and color depth no matter what position the monitor is facing.
  • newegg Watch Full 1080p HD Video with HDMI Monitors aren’t just for computers any more. Now you can watch TV programs, movies, or play your game console on your monitor too. With the SA550’s HDMI port, connect to your cable/satellite box, BluRay player, HD game system, or any other device with an HDMI output. Best of all, you can connect your computer to a different port (like VGA) and switch back and forth without having to unplug anything. To switch between inputs, press the “Source” button on the monitor.
  • newegg Ultra-Slim Design with Touch of Color Finish & Cable Manager Make an artistic statement with a design that naturally blends subtle color gradations into the standard computer monitor frame. Samsung's Touch of Color (ToC) design gives the glossy piano-black bezel frame a hint of red for a monitor that enhances any space. Also, LED technology enables striking, ultra-thin displays. As slim as 16.5 mm, LED monitors add elegance to your desk. They are also very lightweight, making them easy to lift and move. The SA550 also features snap-off covers on the neck which eliminate cable clutter. This simple design feature helps your desk stay neat and clean.

1 out of 5 eggsflickering in less than 6 months

Pros: clear 1080p very thin and lightweight

Cons: I have seen flickering since day 1, it went away after a few days or maybe I stopped noticing it but Ive been dealing with the constant flickering now for a month.

Other Thoughts: I think its absurd you cant find a good high performance 27 inch monitor for under $200

and is it too much to ask for the ability to rotate the screen?

5 out of 5 eggsRefurb SAMSUNG S27A550H

Pros: Alright I got this as refurbished goods. Thanks to all of the reviews that have gone before, I pulled the trigger on this and gave the benefit of doubt.
They say patients is a virtue, and so it goes for this acquisition.
I found the base mount system quite sturdy once everything was properly indexed and the cable management system is slick and stylish.
The lack of a VESA mount is not an issue for me and for the complaints against it, the specs do mention the lack of one.
Viewing this monitor is a pleasure.
The touch controls take a bit of getting used to but are very nice to use without jarring the screen as so many of the buttons do. The power indicator is very unobtrusive, just a pinpoint of light on the lower right.
Very fast it even looks darn good running with VGA D-Sub analog input

Cons: This arrived in a plain box and without software.
No DVI input
Will not offer much heat come winter
Have not owned it longer than a week

Other Thoughts: I never installed the software that give this more features. Perhaps in Samsung's wisdom they opted out of giving it out so one would use this as a basic monitor. The software is available to download and I have, but hesitate to install it.
It is easy to dim if need be and I never turn the screen off to save energy unless I leave the room for hours or simply shut down the system at the end of the day. So much for eco savings.
Lack of heat generation. This LED illuminated LCD is very cool to the touch and running it from an external power supply (12 volts DC) via AC adapter brick.
So while it won't keep you warm in winter it does save on cooling costs
Samsung must have really took a bath on this one, things happen. After seeing all the negative reviews on the screen flashing after a short time (weeks) I knew there would be a bunch of these in refurb sales.
At least with LED LCD's there are no high voltage components to fail as is often the case with CCFL backlights.

1 out of 5 eggsThis is the single worst computer monitor I have ever had the displeasure of owning.

Pros: The only thing I can say about this thing is that it's garbage. I bought 3 all at one time in order to complete a surround setup, and I have had nothing but trouble ever since. I had one monitor do the good ol' blinki-failure on me in the first 28 days, so thinking everything was fine I carted it back to Best Buy and took a new one out of the store and went on my merry way. Fast forward 2 months to when best buy no longer covers them by the in-store, and when 2 more monitors fail within 2 weeks of each other, I am now down to one monitor after using 4 monitors, so thats 3 count em' (3) monitors failing in 3 months, now if that weren't enough, the reason Im here today, two weeks after the two monitors crashing, my final and 4th garbage monitor gives out on me. Ive been back and fourth with Samsung over the phone for about a month at this point, and I have ordered to exchange them for the new model, and until up I got to exchange, the customer serviced I recieved was

Cons: nothing short of abysmal. Now one of the monitors I have is lost in the mail, and I have no working monitors after spending 3 months of my time and over 1200 dollars, so thank you Samsung. Never have I been slighted so hard by a company whose brand I trusted and recommended more than probably any other as far as displays are concerned, you've made me realize how little the big companies really care.

Other Thoughts: Nope, think I got it all out.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent Monitor

Pros: I bought two of these for a single compute. They are sharp and bright (had to turn the brightness way down in my dark office). They are very nice looking and easy to setup.

Cons: The touch controls for adjusting monitors are a little hard especially since I'm trying to get both monitors to have the exact same setttngs.

2 out of 5 eggsScreen Flickers

Pros: Was a great upgrade from my old 22 ACER. HDMI input was great if I wanted to plug in my gaming console as well, but no with no monitor speakers it made it pointless. ( no speakers on a computer monitor, won't get docked credit for that)

Cons: After only 20 days of use, the entire screen began to flicker as if some child was amusingly turning my monitor on and off. Very annoying. I unplugged, swopped cables, changed pc's, but nothing would stop the flickering. The only bad reveiws come from the defec'd flickering reviews.

Other Thoughts: I have a 47in Samsung TV and soundbar thats been working fine for a year now, just sad this monitor had to die in only 20 days...

2 out of 5 eggsMixed emotions

Pros: Bright. A lot of controls

Cons: NO VESA MOUNT! What a cheesy move!! The stand doesn't give me the height I need and want!!

Very hard to calibrate. According to Samsung tech the monitor has NO LUT built in.

Other Thoughts: only two stars because of VESA and cheesy stand.
I have three Samsung TVs and 2 monitors. No more
VESA mount = NO MORE Samsung.

You'd think they at least sell a VESA cradle of some kind--cheap.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it worked

Pros: This Monitor has a great picture, the stand did not bother me and seemed to be sturdy on my desk.

Cons: I bought the first one on 2/23/2012 and I loved it until it died on 3/4/2012(11 days) and started flashing on and off on its own mid game, soI returned to the store and got a new one on 3/5/2012 and loved it until it also died on 3/11/2012 (6 days) doing the same thing. This time I returned for a refund! After checking in to the issue with my monitor the techs at the store I bought it from did find that both monitor had the same date of production and were both made in mexico! To me that seems like poor quailty check in place

Other Thoughts: I have used samsung for many years, I have 4 tvs, 3 blue rays, 3 other 23"led monitor and, 2 cell phones but after this I think I will be swithing brands for my future needs.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's 27-inches, all right

Pros: Big, bright screen. No complaints there.
Light weight. Fast LED display. Seriously affordable for this size range (depending on where/when you buy it). Makes a great workplace monitor for those with employers too tightwadded to give employees the appropriate work tools for CAD/Visio, etc. Love the Egg, but this was just over 3 bills at Best Buy, and I needed a replacement ASAP for a project.
2.5 to 3 eggs for this beast - absolute middle of the road.

Cons: Same as other are reporting, really: VERY flimsy and tacky acrylic base, and a weeble-wobble experience based on the monitor size. Software that ships with it does indeed say it's not compatible with this product. (Don't know what MagicTune is/does, sounds like I don't want it anyway!)

Other Thoughts: I think it's a cop-out from Samsung on the VESA mount stance... Implying customers want thin over mountable. I'm sure 99.999% of customers would rather have a slightly thicker monitor in the name of having VESA mounting support. Samsung does TVs much bigger and even thinner than this, and with mounting support built in. Honestly, I think embedding VESA plating inside would strengthen the overall integrity of the whole monitor, and let Samsung plant a stronger base on screens this size. Let us wall or arm-mount this bad boy AND get rid of the excessive wobble at the same time, Samsung!

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I went from an old 19in lcd monitor to this beast. I was amazed with the picture quality and how it looks in games.

Cons: The base almost ruins the monitor. Some people say they worry its gonna fall off... Mine did fall and put a nice scratch down the screen. I got mine at Best Buy cheaper than Newegg. Now I get to take it back.

Other Thoughts: Great monitor if the stand was just a bit better.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung S27A550H display. I am sorry to hear that you had issues with the stand.

Please make sure that the stand and base are installed correctly:
1) Insert the stand into the base.
2) Flip the base with stand upside down. Make sure you tighten the connecting screw located on the underside of the base so that the stand is securely fixed in place.
3) Now place a soft cloth on a table and place the monitor face down onto the cloth.
4) Holding the monitor body with one hand, firmly push the assembled stand/base unit into the main body of the monitor. It should click into place firmly.
5) Only lift the product by holding onto the main body of the monitor, never just the stand.

You can review these instructions with diagrams in Section 2-2 of your Owner's Manual.

I hope this helps.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor, with a few issues

Pros: Very good picture quality, especially with the very nice dynamic contrast mode

Very quick response time, have noticed absolutely no input lag in moving from my old 23" 2ms response

The thing is just gigantic

Cons: Only 1080p (this is just about the largest screen size that I'd buy for a monitor with 1080p resolution. It's approaching the point where individual pixels are noticeable under moderate scrutiny, but honestly it's not a real issue, just nitpicking, and when compared to $800 for a 2560x1600 it makes sense)

First panel was defective, but Samsung had a quick turn around to get me another

This thing is EXTREMELY bright on Dynamic contrast mode, but doesn't look as nearly as nice without it

No VESA mount, absolutely no way to wall mount it

Other Thoughts: I like it overall, but honestly I think the lack of a wall mounting option is a little ridiculous in a $400 monitor. I picked this up at Best Buy during their Black Friday sale for $300, and I wouldn't spend much more than that on it to be honest. In the end I do really like it, and am happy with my purchase.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung S27A550H. I am glad to hear that you are pleased with the overall performance of this display.

Please know that Samsung strives to deliver the highest quality products with today’s most popular features, among them ultra slimness and a sleek design. Consequently, this models' thin profile is made possible by omitting the VESA mount.
