5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: Beautiful 1920x1200 monitor at a good price. Good colors. I purchased 6 of these for our two drafting workstations. The guys love them. At this price we can afford to get three monitors per user.

Cons: None so far.

Pros: sharp picture. Great aspect ratio!

Cons: The color seems off and white text on a black background isn't pure white, its yellow to white to blue. Seems like a driver or adjustment issue, but I have the latest drivers installed and because I'm using it as a 2nd monitor, it won't allow me to adjust anything but RGB, brightness and contrast. All the "magic tune" feature don't work. May also be a compatibility issue with my Radeon HD 4600 VGA which the Samsung website says it doesn't support. Very disappointing.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic monitor

Pros: Great picture quality; built-in viewing angle compensator options mitigate a lot of the disadvantages of LCD screens over the costlier and less efficient plasma tech; screen response tests out as advertised: more than fast enough for any video or game viewable by a human; panel itself is very strongly built without being too heavy. 16:10 resolutions also a huge plus. 16:9 just does not get the job done. Also passed all pixel tests, and continues to three months of near constant use later.

Cons: Can't use viewing angle compensators at the same time as picture adjustment (sharpness, contrast, and color, but brightness still works). Software post-processing is required to do both. Stand is not the toughest construction and wobbles if even a sturdy table is bumped.

Other Thoughts: If the stand were just a bit beefier, or the picture controls could be used with the angle controls, I could excuse either one. I would knock off an egg for that, but as far as I've seen no other manufacturer does it any better, making this the best 16:10 LCD monitor available. There are a few things I miss about the old plasma tech, such as viewing angle, but the response time and energy efficiency of them was terrible, making a good LCD a worthwhile trade-off.

5 out of 5 eggsGlad I bought them

Pros: Very happy with these monitors, I own 3 at this point in time. very happy with gaming on it, considering buying two more in the next few months. color and fidelity are very nice, not glossy. Fast on/off , power indicator is subdued. Have not had any delay with gaming some people talk about with LEDs. The power consumption for all three is less than my old single 24 inch lcd … another thought its hard to find what you’re looking for these days in the 1920 by 1200 range … it’s a shame the 1080ps have taken over and reduced choice in this field

Cons: Requires calibration, not a big fan of magic angle, as it requires settings changes for orientation changes, maybe a future version could auto detect the change and adjust automatically? Would like a thinner bezel. Buttons kind of funky

Other Thoughts: Description could be clearer, has a fully adjustable stand. The definition between this model and the one for a few more bucks seems to be only speakers, but very hard to get clarification from anyone on it

2 out of 5 eggsBe careful

Pros: Plenty of brightness, no dead pixels, LCD backlight means this monitor is cool to the touch and won't heat up your working space. 1920x1200 resolution.

Cons: That brightness. It's way too bright, even on very low settings. Colors seem washed out at times. I don't know what type of LEDs they have for the backlight but I am aware that LED lighting still suffers from spectrum limitations, perhaps this is why the colors aren't as they should be. Viewing angle issues require constant fiddling with "magic angle" and/or tilting the monitor vertically.

No ability to adjust colors by temperature (i.e. 3000K, 6000K, etc).

A "magic angle" profile that works for a dark background/scene ends up blowing out the contrast in brighter images, and vice versa. Adjusting contrast will not help, as again, what works for a dark scene will not work for a bright one.

Whitish colors will burn your retinas (much akin to that "staring at a blacklight" feeling), even when brightness is set to 15/100. I've had to set windows 7 to use a dark theme.

Other Thoughts: My previous monitor was a viewsonic vp201b, a very nice LCD that did 1600x1200 natively. Unfortunately it was giving up the ghost and I needed to get a new monitor. I guess I was spoiled by the viewsonic since this one has all kinds of issues that one didn't. The 201b never had the color and viewing angle problems that this monitor suffers from, and its contrast was far superior.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor!

Pros: Resolution is great for everything! I didn't know how much a difference the extra vertical resolution would make over the now standard 1080 monitors, but having this side by side with one it is apparent while web browsing and working on documents how big of a difference it is. Stand is rock solid unlike some of the less expensive 24 inch monitors on the market. I don't have any wobble at all. The tilt feature of the monitor is a neat option, but I have really no use for it. It works as advertised though.

Cons: The only con I can really think of is the lack of inputs other than DVI and Dsub. I knew this when I settled on the monitor though so it's not like I wasn't expecting it.

Other Thoughts: I bought these because there was a 10 percent discount over the weekend on samsung monitors and I wanted the resolution. I looked at other 24 inch monitors with this resolution and this one was priced right and only seemed to be missing the HDMI or Display port connectors the others had. I bought two of them and they are running great after a few weeks of use

4 out of 5 eggsRead the manual!

Pros: Very inexpensive 8-bit IPS panel means full-color and 1920x1200 resolution means it's still a better resolution than the majority of the panels out there, yet at 24" the print scales up where my aging eyes can sit back from the monitor a little. Movies look good, though I haven't tried dropping the resolution down to 1080p yet.

Cons: I'd dock it a half-egg alone for the odd viewing angle. My previous monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 204B - 1600x1200 20.1" TN panel. Both monitors claim 160-170 degrees viewing angle. However, that's left-to-right. UP AND DOWN viewing angle is severely limited on the S24A450BW-1. Out of the box, brightness is set to 100. I set it down to 60 so it wouldn't blind me, and found I could not see the shaded boxes around Facebook post "replies" any longer. If I tilted the panel up EXACTLY at my eyes I could see it properly. Any movement up and down, and I lost it.

At this point, I decided to crank brightness back to max and see if that made a difference. In the menu, I saw an option for "Magic Angle", which had different settings for use depending on how high you were in conjunction to the monitor. I'm not used to actually having to load the manual up to get a monitor to look "right" out of the box, so this was a great shock. Once "Magic Angle" was activated, my viewing issues went away.

Other Thoughts: DO load the manual and educate yourself on the viewing angle solutions with this product, else you may be disappointed with your purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

Pros: As of right now this was the only LED backlit 24" LCD monitor with 1920x1200 resolution that I could find.

This monitor is marketed toward business and that's what I use it for but I don't see how it would be a bad choice for home.

It has a matte finish, which I love. There is no noticeable glare.

It has a nice looking stand with a slight grain finish that isn't glossy and cheap looking like most monitor stands. Also the bezel is a nice matte finish.

The stand is height adjustable! Such a rarity these days it seems. I took it off because I wall-mounted mine, so I don't have experience with it.

The entire monitor rotates on the stand, so you can use it in portrait mode with only a quick flick.

It has 'normal' power and menu buttons on the front, instead of hidden, or touch sensitive buttons.

I have started to hate 'HD' monitors because I have to scroll so much, so I absolutely love having 120 more lines of vertical resolution over a 1920x1080 monitor.

Cons: The buttons are a little bit hard to press. Maybe they will get easier over time.

Out of the box, the viewing angle is not ideal. Spend some time adjusting the angle settings in the menu and you will be happy.

Other Thoughts: Like many LED backlit LCD's the power transformer is not inside the monitor. This one has a nice mounting spot for the box at the back of the monitor. I thought it would get in the way of wall mounting but it didn't in my case. It probably sticks out about 1/2" to 3/4". It is removable but the cord between it and the monitor is short so you can't put it too far away. If needed I guess you could affix it to the back of the monitor on the sides since they are inset a bit.

It seems to have a built-in power saving feature that as soon as I lock my computer it goes into a low power state, then a few seconds later turns off completely. Haven't messed with the settings on that though.

It is plenty bright for me, but I usually like my monitors darker. I have it set to about 50%.

I got it about 40 cheaper somewhere else so shop around, but this is about the best bang for the buck I could find in the price range.
