4 out of 5 eggsGood, basic monitor

Pros: Two HDMI ports, so I can have it hooked up to my PC and my PS4.

Audio out is convenient if you like using headphones.

Good picture quality.

Cons: Switching between video sources is a bit tedious because of the limited single-button interface. You select the "switch" option from the menu and instead of being able to select which one you want, you have to wait for it to cycle through each input, which isn't terribly efficient. Not a big deal, as far as cons go.

The monitor stand has no height or tilt adjustment, and there is no VESA mounting interface on the back.

Other Thoughts: If the cons aren't deal-breakers for your intended usage, it's a great monitor and I've been happy with it these past 9 months. I'm not sure it is worth the full price, but on sale it is a good deal.

Chad F.:

Thank you for purchasing the Samsung S24D590PL.

Please know that this monitor does indeed tilt. It has a tilt range of -1° to +15°, as listed in the User Manual.

Place the monitor on a flat sturdy surface, hold the base down firmly with one hand, grasp the top center of the bezel with your other hand and push firmly and gently back. This should tilt the monitor screen back. To tilt the monitor down, just push the bottom of the bezel gently and firmly back while pulling the top of the bezel towards you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Design and Value

Pros: Almost everything about this monitor is amazing. The vivid display and design are my favorite part. Having a 5ms rate is really nice for gaming as well.

Cons: The button to control the menu on the back is a little strange to use, but does not reduce the over greatness of the monitor.

4 out of 5 eggsGood All Around Performance

Pros: Price and the performance of the PLS panel getting close to TN for games yet like an ISP for colors. Power draw is next to nothing @ 20 watts or so compared to the 19" Trinitron @ 135 watts!

Cons: No swivel or height adjustment. Stock height seems low but, better than too high as a reem of paper can fix too low.

Comes with the WRONG cable (VGA). Most will buy this 590 model for two HDMI ports. So send at least ONE HDMI cable, please.
-
Mine has TWO "soft" pixel that I can only see it if I hunt themdown with a white target field. Still, these should be 100% by now on panel quality. This issue does NOT apply to JUST this brand, either.
-
Don't let this get in the way of this models strengths. The pixels are so small that they unnoticed with any sort of desktop. And, if needed, send it back till you get a good one if necessary.

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor to replace a 10 year old DELL 19” Trinitron, and to hold me over until the Dynamic Refresh rate wars are over between NVIDIA and AMD. I DO NOT want to have to be locked into a monitor AND video card. So, I looked and looked for a decent 1080P monitor that my AMD 6870 (for now) can run well. I won't buy a video card until they match-up to a monitor that can, hopefully, run BOTH G-Sync and FreeSync. I selected this model as it has TWO HDMI slots over the 390 series. Other than that, they seem the same model to me.

So did this monitor do the trick? Yes, it did, to be short. The 24” screen seems HUGE off of a 19” CRT. BUT, I still like my wife's 16:10 monitor verses the 16:9 screens. That extra inch top to bottom is VERY nice to have on a PC. A true PC should have a 16:10 ratio but oh well, we get TV stuff hand me downs. It did take me several hours to appreciate this monitor it's SO different.

Set-up was easy EXCEPT (no fault of the monitor) for finding the screen size controls as the screen was NOT filling all the monitor but it was on the right resolution. Once I found and set the scaling option to 0%, away we go! It's hidden in the Properties (Digital Display) on AMD driver software.

This monitor has VERY good color temperatures. Bright (I use 55) and vivid (I set contrast to 100%). OK, maybe the model is not photo correct but you'll never starve your eyes with it. I have done little tweaking, and have a nice picture. Turn HDMI BLACK level setting to normal.

I bought this panel for several reasons after extensive looking;
PLS response is in between TN (1-2 ns) and IPS (8-12 ns)
Input lag is 17.2 ns which is great for games.
PLS colors and viewing angles are both good for everything.
Price is closer to NT panels without the strange color shifts and more pastel look.
24" @ 1080P is all I'd ever want to try to run on my AMD6870 video card with games.
Two HDMI inputs are handy.

I'm perplexed by the confusion over the jog button. This thing is SUPER easy to master and you can fly through the setting in nothing flat over button ofter button. Turn it off? I simple push in and toggle to OFF and hold two seconds is too hard?

On games, I ran Far Cry3 BLOOD DRAGON on full 1080P and it look super. I REALLY wished I played the game on THIS monitor verses the 19” Trinitron! I saw no terrible ghosting or input lag in this pretty fast paced shooter. The far cry3 game engine is pretty demanding, too. Colors and vibrancy are over the top compared to the Trinitron. I tried to see screen tearing, but I couldn't. I'm told tearing is an issue when your video card goes over 60 FPS. My 6870 won't exceed that most of the time, so I can't say I saw any stuttering or tearing after twenty minutes of gunning down dragons. Yes, I did sense some low frame rate jitters but barely.

1 out of 5 eggsElegant Design, but really bad QA

Pros: Really nice stand design. The monitor look stylish. The display is colorful and the PLS makes wide-angle view a pleasure.

Cons: Really bad quality control. The first monitor I got has a dead pixel at the upper right corner of the screen. I did an RMA for a replacement and received a second one. The second has a horizontal dead pixels line in the middle of the screen which appears after a week of use when I was watching youtube video. Seriously, really terrible quality and reliability issue with this Samsung monitor.

Other Thoughts: I know it's hit or miss. But 2 consecutive defects proves there is serious QA/reliability issue with this monitor. For me, it just doesn't justify the risk although it would be a great monitor if it work consistently.

5 out of 5 eggslove that jog button

Pros: Size: I bought it to have room to show two big windows side by side. That's very helpful, and videos look great.

Price: I grabbed it because Newegg offered half off.

Stand: The stand is stable and leaves me more desk space than the stand of my smaller monitor.

wide angle: My old monitor didn't look good to a second person viewing from off-center. This one does.

Jog button: There's a single button behind the lower right corner, that controls onscreen programming. It seemed a hassle at first, but it's very convenient. My favorite feature is Eco Saving, to reduce backlighting to 75% or 50%. The latter should reduce brightness to the recommended 120 cd/m2. It's a quick way to reduce the contrast of black/white text to be more like paper documents, for less eyestrain.

Cons: Well, now I have to put my loudspeakers farther apart on my desk, than with my smaller monitor. :)

Other Thoughts: The manual says to connect the monitor and computer to power outlets before connecting the cable. OK, no static. It also says to shut down the computer before connecting the cable. In other words, HDMI is hot-swappable, but Samsung recommends against it. Well, OK, I guess Samsung wants to be sure we don't have trouble.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat deal

Pros: Black Friday Purchase so the price was awesome at half off.
PLS panel which makes this a great all-a-rounder without paying a premium for the next best thing.

Cons: no vesa mount known upfront

4 out of 5 eggsThin and Little Glare

Pros: Thin and low profile, matte screen is great, and game mode allows for quick switching. Stand is also great looking, takes up less space

Cons: Lack of VESA mount, and experienced a ground loop feedback using powered speakers through he audio jack.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a Samsung 2333 Syncmaster. The reduced profile and stand takes up much less space.
On here now to buy a second one for dual screen setup instead of using the old syncmaster

5 out of 5 eggsGreat display

Pros: Very light weight compared to past monitors. Thin screen and great resolution. Base is sturdy and no obstructing. Very little glare as well. Very easy to set up out of the box. Gaming mode is great and has an amazing picture

Cons: No way to angle the monitor naturally. The interface and power button are odd to use. Not many ports but if you are using it for a single tower, not much of a problem.

Other Thoughts: It is a great monitor for a great price. If you don't mind the low port count and angle issues I highly recommend

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great picture and colors

Cons: After 35 days dead pixels started showing up in the middle of the display which is a big bummer. I contacting Samsung to try and get this resolved since it's past the newegg 30 days rma policy for monitors.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor!

Pros: Great space-saving design, solid build quality (doesn't really have that cheap glossy look), matte screen doesn't reflect glare at all, awesome picture right out of the box (and even better with a little tweaking), blacks are so much better than my old TN panel monitor. Very easy to set up. Oh, and the base doesn't make the monitor feel flimsy on my desk (a major concern when I was shopping around). The JOG controls on the back are very easy to use.

Cons: Not all that adjustable (tilt only), only ports are 1 VGA, 2 HDMI, and 1 headphone, and no VESA mount but it suits my needs. I haven't tried Game Mode or any of those kinds of features so I can't comment on those. I also haven't noticed any ghosting but I don't play FPS games.

Other Thoughts: This replaces my old 24" 1920x1200 TN panel monitor (Hyundai W240D) and I'm very happy with it. The smaller screen size is noticeable but the extra desk space, much lower power consumption, and better screen more than make up for it. I love the black levels, it was the first thing I noticed. One thing I realized when I first set this monitor up was a black box framing my entire screen. This was easily remedied when I went into the CCC and moved the Overscan to 0% (not sure why this happened).
