5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for Photo Editing

Pros: I bought this panel purely for photo editing. S-IPS technology makes this panel stand out. Wherever you stand in the room, the picture remains just as vivid and colorimetrically neutral as if you were sitting right in front of it. Calibrates easily and includes a built-in 4-port USB hub.

Cons: S-IPS technology is still expensive. Still, the panel is good value. Response time is noticeably slower than other LCD panels I have used... another S-IPS characteristic. Not to worry though, the only game I play is Flight Simulator... I don't need frame rates any higher han 25 per second.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent monitor

Pros: Colors are bright and vibrant, and when I stand up from my desk, the blue windows XP background turns green on my **other** monitor, but this monitor maintains color at any angle. Picture is very sharp for both digital and analog inputs. Switches between inputs quickly.

Cons: USB ports are backwards. A thumb drive faces toward the back when plugged into it so you can't see the activity light.

Other Thoughts: I wish there was a setting to have it not automatically switch inputs when one signal disappears. When I reboot, for example, I want it to stay on the computer that is rebooting so I can see the BIOS info, etc., but it switches to the other input as soon as the video signal goes away. Dual input monitors in general seem to do this.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Color, Surprised and Happy

Pros: As a hesitant first time LCD'er this monitor does not dissappoint. Not a gamer so can't say much for that category but the color rocks. Interface is user friendly and easy to set up. I'm pleasantly surprised and happy!

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent LCD monitor

Pros: Excellent display. The auto-adjust works pretty well, even before any manual tweaks to color/brightness. Although specs claim lower contrast ratio than others, I still had to turn brightness/contrast down, even positioned next to a bright sunny window in my home office. Much easier to view than my old 19" CRT it replaced. Solid stand and decent cable management. Video looks good too--I have not noticed any ghosting yet. Sharp, clear text and good color rendition. Controls easy to use. USB hub very handy.

Cons: USB ports on the hub attached to mine are mounted backwards--when I plug in a flash drive, the top faces away from me and I can't see the activity light! Very minor gripe though. Control buttons seem a tad flimsy the way they're mounted, but work well.

Other Thoughts: Terrific display, and a pleasure to use. I'm wishing I had upgraded to this long ago. I'm already thinking about purchasing a second one for dualhead display.

5 out of 5 eggsfantastic unit.

Pros: In-plane switching. booyah

Cons: Buttons are free-floating and thus a little flimsy, but if you treat your toys with care they should be fine. Probably not kid-proof, though.

Other Thoughts: Just bought my second after a year of using one.

I think this may in fact be an S-IPS monitor rather than merely IPS, though I'll grant that NEC has IPS listed on their product page. Maybe I'll give them a call to get clarification, as I've seen S-IPS specified for this unit all over the web.

5 out of 5 eggsTracee on 6/5/2007

Pros: Love it. Love it. Love it. No dead pixels. Nice stable stand. Absolutely excellent color right out of the box. Was a little worried when I ordered this monitor because the specs were lower than what I was looking for but I went for the screen type. (Actually, my first NEC choice was unavailable.) I'm very happy with it. Would recommend to anyone. The monitor controls are located in the front and are super simple to use.

Cons: None yet and hopefully it will stay that way. :)

Other Thoughts: More a question than a thought. I researched monitors and monitor specs thoroughly before purchasing. Maybe someone can explain to me why....when the specs on this monitor are technically just under the recommended rates of 300 or higher brightness and at least 800:1 contrast or higher why this monitor looks so darn good. I have LCD monitors at work with higher specs and faster response times (yes they were also about half the price) and they look awful. Text is spidery. Colors are off. In the end I went with my gut and the fact that NEC is known for quality LCDs. But....the specs when purchasing LCDs seem to mean nothing.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Great monitor! I have two of them (both connected via DVI). Very nice colors and pretty bright. I do amature photo work and a lot of programming (text editing) and the monitor is very comfortable even after long usage.

Cons: When the screen is on but the graphics card is not sending it any data (e.g. while rebooting), the monitor makes a high pitch noise. It's not loud and unless you're in a very quiet place, you probably won't notice it. The noise level is on par with that of a quiet fan.

Other Thoughts: One of the monitors was DOA. Within 4 days of contacting NEC I had a replacement sitting on my desk. NEC customer service is great: they cross-shipped and covered shipping costs both ways.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent monitor for digital photography

Pros: Superb resolution, color, contrast and clarity. Great cable clips, swivel base and easily adjustable height.

Cons: The swivel base might have taken the cabling into consideration a bit. It's a minor gripe, but if the cabling is tight, then swiveling the monitor sometimes becomes an issue. It's a minor gripe compared to the pros of the monitor.

Other Thoughts: Easy unpacking and setup. Calibrated the color table on the OS with a Spyder2 and even out of the box, the monitor was almost spot on. High resolution and size makes it a pleasure to use on editing photographs.
