Furthermore, ECO Mode function helps save power, reduce heat and extend the life of the display by allowing you to dim the backlight.

5 out of 5 eggsTwo months later

Pros: I posted a review on 7/16 right after i bought this monitor. I just want to say that two months later and i still love this monitor. The price has gone up since i bought it - glad i bought when i did, and i'm glad I had the opportunity to purchase as an open box thereby saving more money. This might be one of the best computer related purchases I've ever made. Needless to say i am VERY happy!!!

Cons: Same cons as posted on my original review, but they bother me even less now after two months.

4 out of 5 eggsVery very nice monitor

Pros: I really love this monitor. I bought is as an open box, and was really hesitant thinking for sure that there HAD to be something wrong with it. In fact I still keep waiting for something to go wrong, but I have nothing but praise (aside from my few negatives). I saved almost $200 buying it as an open box and so far am not disappointed. There are no dead pixels (and i really tried to find one/some!). Absolutely no backlight bleeding AT ALL (again - really tried to find *something* wrong with this monitor). Picture is absolutely stunning (best i have EVER seen) and I haven't even calibrated it yet (though I did have to turn down the brightness a bit). I hate bright bezel colored canopies - and therefore love the matte finish on this one.

Cons: Too thick. Too hot. Maybe a little bright at default settings.

Other Thoughts: This is a big big big monitor. Wife actually makes fun of it and calls it an "elephant in the room". In this day and age I would expect a slimmer/sleeker build. Runs very hot when in use. Heat comes from the top and toasts up the whole room. Because this thing is as thick as a brick, it kind of looks outdated already, but if i can get past that, and i have, I just couldn't be happier with this monitor. Also, because this was an open box, there were a few scratches on the screen, but I was able to buff all but one scratch out. With the money I saved on buying it this way though, I can live with the scratch. I plan to have this baby as my mainstay for a good 5 years. This is my second NEC, and i believe my next purchase in 5 years will also be a NEC.

5 out of 5 eggsBest for it's price

Pros: Superb, accurate color. Incredible color control. Obvious quality in product. Near-perfect out of the box. Well documented color setup functions in thick manual. Luminance nearly even across entire surface. Works, as advertised. Price: you get more than what you pay for. Newegg has the best deal for this screen anywhere. Matte plastic so scratches don't show up as easy as some other brands. Great finish on screen surface. Optional wall mount easy install via VESA hole mounts. Cable/wiring very ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing. The list keeps getting longer.

Cons: Deeper base than expecting, but still fit on my desk. Gamut not as wide as it's bigger and more expensive brother(not really a con if you only need sRGB like 80% of users out there). Price could be a con for some cheapskates. Not such great Windows 7 64bit support with provided software on CD-ROM(a non-issue for me).

Other Thoughts: Need I say more. Un-real. This monitor is perfect for entry-level/mid-level enthusiast/work-at-home DCC individual. If you shoot/edit video, composite and/or create 3D imagery, this is a perfect monitor to get started with. Won't break your wallet while giving you incredible out-of-the-box performance.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best sRGB monitor

Pros: * Flawless sRGB
* 24 inches of consistent color and lighting
* Sleet design that does not get in the way of work
* Only $700
* Easy to adjust colors

Cons: * Stand is just a touch wobbly if you bump your desk
* Has a bad rap by version one snobs
* At 90° there is a slight shift. But I don't work at 90°

Other Thoughts: If you need sRGB this is the best option right now. It looks very professional on the desk. The colors and text are sharp as a tact. No noise from the monitor that I can hear. At 90° there is a slight color shift but you'll need to spend $1500 if you want a monitor that will handle that. This is not an issue at all in the real world.

5 out of 5 eggsDear Disappointment

Pros: Seriously, you are marking the monitor down because NEC says you must use a microfiber cloth?? Really?? Microfiber towels/cloth are can get a 10 pack for a couple of bucks at Walmart. They are soft, lint free and won't scratch...that is why NEC says to use.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent monitor!

Pros: Uniform color; no backlight leakage; very well calibrated out of the box; 16:10 ratio

Cons: Connectivity (but see comment below); heavy (but I'm not carrying it around)

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent monitor. As other reviewers have noted, it comes already calibrated nearly perfectly; when I ran my calibration software, the change was very small. It is rather heavy, and deep for a flat panel monitor, but the stand holds it balanced very nicely. Having moved up from a 20" flat panel, this is a major step up. I like the 16:10 ratio, rather than the usual 16:9 in widescreen monitors. If you are looking for a monitor that will enable critical work with images, without spending $2,000 or more, this is an excellent choice. The colors and brightness are uniform from one side of the monitor, to the middle, to the other side, and there’s no backlight leakage. My computer has HDMI but no DVI ports, while this monitor has DVI but no HDMI, so I bought a separate cable with HDMI on one end and DVI-D on the other, and it works perfectly.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointment

Pros: Very good image quality

Cons: First of all, the image quality is good, but any substantial change in the viewing angle tends to make me think I'm looking at one of the old projection TVs with the Fresnel lens.

The main purpose of this review, however, is the utter stupidity of creating a monitor that you essentially cannot clean the face of. Had I known before hand that the ONLY way NEC recommends cleaning the screen is with a "microfiber cloth" (and the use of NO cleaning fluids, water or otherwise) I would have bought an Apple Cinema display - or anything more practical. I called NEC support and they could offer nothing but the "microfiber" cloth solution. When I asked what the heck is a microfiber cloth and where do you get one, the rep could give no answer except that I may have to find one at an electronics store somewhere.

Other Thoughts: So, now I have a monitor that I cannot clean if it gets anything on it more aggressive than lint - like a fingerprint - that would require some cleaner necessary to cut oil. Heaven forbid that a particle of spit should land on it! (Don't carry on ANY conversations by your monitor!) Do they honestly think that NOTHING ever gets on a screen but lint or dust? It's like buying a car and finding out AFTER you pay for it that you cannot clean the wind shield with anything but the wind.

If you EVER plan on cleaning your screen, do NOT buy this monitor.

'Nuther point:

In the owner's manual they illustrate that the screen can be not only tilted up and down, but turned side-to-side. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE!!! Should you try to rotate the screen sideways, you will break the support. It is clearly not designed to be viewed except directly in front of the stand.

I spent a long time reviewing monitors before I purchased this one, and did so because it had no bad reviews - until no

5 out of 5 eggsThe Professional choice

Pros: Consistant lighting, very accurate collors after calibration, hight, tilt, swivel, and rotation adjustment. most impotanly of all; the price.

Cons: none what so ever

Other Thoughts: I use these monitors at work. We currently have six of them. We use them for video analysis.

With the color calibration tools you can buy for these monitors, you will experience just about the best color accuracy you can expect to see out of any monitor today. The color calibration is very easy to do. All you need to do is install the software, connect the colorimeter to the computer driving the monitor, and stick it on to the screen. Once you run the program you’re pretty much done. It will automatically adjust the monitor via signaling through the video interface. The whole process takes about 10 minutes. Once you're done you have 6 months to enjoy a color-perfect display.

The best part about buying this monitor from Newegg is that you are getting them for about $200 less than the average retail price.

Others have said that their bulk is a con, but if that is a concern for you then you might not need to buy a monitor of this caliber. Not meant for your home PC.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth every (painful) penny!

Pros: It is a truly beautiful thing -- close up, or back off, it's all sharp and clear. The stand hardware seems much more rugged than the Brand X (cheaper) monitors I've dealt with lately, too.

Cons: Price. Newegg was out of stock when I needed it, I had to buy it elsewhere, and now I see I paid $150 more than if I had waited. Oh well -- the price of impatience.

Other Thoughts: So you get what you pay for. I'm looking at the monitor 6 - 10 hours a day -- I don't want to see bad pixels, color distortions, funky edges, or anything else that doesn't belong in the picture. Running an Nvidia GTX480, I want a high quality display, and this monitor delivers that kind of quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor for Photography/Video

Pros: This monitor supports $99 SpectraViewII Color Calibration tool from NEC. Very good calibration for cheap if you already own the color sensor. I have a Monaco OptixXR (X-Rite DTP 94), but it supports others as well. Monitor has a very consistent lighting across an enormous screen for Photoshop and Premiere. And the color quality of the calibrated monitor is fabulous.

Cons: Does not include SpectraViewII software. So plan on $99 to use this baby to it's best. After a year it developed one dead pixel. The dead pixel is only visible on a solid black screen at system boot. Otherwise I never see it with the images I shoot.

Other Thoughts: This is a great monitor, but like the others said it is huge. The image is clear up close, but you have to sit back to really see the entire 24" screen. But I love it!
