LED, SUPER ENERGY SAVING, IPS PANEL

The LG IPS234V-PN combines the wide viewing capabilities of In Plane Switching (IPS) technology with the superior picture quality of LED backlighting. So it is an advanced display that produces precise and vivid colors with spot on detail even from different viewing angles. Full HD is taken to new heights with exceptional contrast ratios and brightness levels that bring out subtle color differences as well as the deepest and the most difficult shades of black.

It also seeks to be an environmentally friendlier product earning the highest EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) Gold rating.

Consuming less power than the previous LCD models, LED technology also limits the amount of halogen or mercury used to manufacture each unit.

  • newegg IPS Panel The LG IPS234V-PN has a super viewing angle of 178 degree. It provides consistent color tone and response time throughout the screen, precise color matching with the original image in reality.
  • newegg LED Backlight Featuring the LED backlight technology, the LG IPS234V-PN provides increased brightness, enhanced color saturation with less power consumption, minimizes eye fatigue and is more eco-friendly to the environment containing no mercury. LED backlighting also reduces the number and overall size of components for an exceptionally thin monitor.
  • newegg Superior image quality The LG IPS234V-PN features Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, expressive 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 250 cd/m2 brightness for lifelike image.
  • newegg EPEAT Gold EPEAT is helping transform the marketplace for green computer products, and the LG IPS234V-PN is one of them which meet the required criteria.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat value - you still get what you pay for, though!

Pros: The display itself looks freaking great. A surprisingly noticable upgrade from my 4 year old MVA panel. Just like everybody else I needed to adjust the brightness waayyy down and mess with a few other settings but, once set, the colors on this thing are beautiful.

Cons: EL CHEAPO - Vveryy Wobbly
When you mount the display on its stand, treat it like a sheet of glass. It feels *that* fragile. The stand on this thing is literally ridiculous. If you don't have a *perfectly* stable desk, the display itself actually very visibly shakes and wobbles just from typing on the keyboard/mouse. (My desk is on carpet...) The display literally connects to the stand via gravity and snapping into place. There's absolutely nothing rigid about it. Which also brings up no tilt/pitch/rotate which is mostly moot with IPS viewing angles.

Only a VGA cord included by default. What is this, outdatted inventory reduction?

The power cord is only 4 feet long, and it's a wall wart. No standard power supply IEC connectors on this baby.

Navigating the settings menu is impressively difficult; they clearly put effort into making it hard to use. That said, it offers an option to disable the Power-ON LED, which I find particularily awesome.

Other Thoughts: If you can get this monitor under a bill and a half and you absolutely can't spend more, ther'es no question that the panel itself is worth the money. But if you appreciate quality hardware, spend another $25 elsewhere and do it right.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: Got this for a great price, around $140 shipped. So glad I resisted the urger to go bigger. This 23" is perfect for our desk. I have always liked glossy screens, but after living with this Matte screen, never going back. Has great color, and nice design. Working great with our Mac Mini.

Cons: As most have stated the stand is not solid, every time you hit a button on the screen it wobbles a bit. Not that big of a deal since I interact with the monitor buttons very infrequently. Glad I didn't shell out the $1000 for a Apple Thunderbolt display, with the savings I was able to buy a Kayak, 56" lake Dock, 47" LCD TV, External hard Drive, PC Speaker system, and a box of steaks delivered with money left over. Yes, for a 90% price difference I will settle for less resolution! Looks great to me.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome monitor to pick up with promo discount.

Pros: Grabbed two of these when they were on sale for 145. Fantastic deal. Crisp image, no light bleed and good color quality once calibrated.

I've been animating/editing and gaming with these monitors and have no complaints. (Although, if you're doing any serious professional level photo work that necessitates a high level of color accuracy, consider bumping your search up to the next tier in monitor quality).

In regards to the mystery about this monitor's response time, 5ms or 14ms - I haven't noticed any ghosting or input lag. Bioshock and Blood Dragon look stunningly crisp.

Cons: Minor issues that feel a bit trivial given the price tag:
- out-of-the-box brightness setting is on "hi-beams"
- stand sturdiness. it wobbles. but only if I walk into my desk or lose a game of jenga or something. (the stands aren't toothpicks, dudes. Perhaps not a great monitor choice if you are a gorilla, live above a subway line, or bought a desk from the balsa wood furniture outlet)
- the power adapters are pretty chunky. outlet space will be sacrificed.

But on this point, an egg is lost:

Come on, LG. Why are you giving me this dinky VGA cable to use with my nice new IPS monitor? I can't even plug that into my graphics card without an adapter. Please join us in the land of relevant hardware. A DVI cable would have been swell.

Other Thoughts: Maybe there is a correlation between number of complaints about ghosting and the number of people who still use shoddy VGA connections.

4 out of 5 eggsShould have DVI cable standard

Pros: Price point was excellent. I ordered 3 (139.99 ea with the $20.00 Promo) of them and have them mounted using the VESA mounting plate on the back which eliminates the biggest CON.

Cons: HDMI or DVI cables should be standard on all monitors now. . .

The stand that is provided is really an inferior product. which has been repeatedly noted in other reviews, if you don't want to knock this thing over by accident make sure you get an after market VESA mount and you will have no worries.

Power plug. AC to DC converter is a bit bulky and, but nothing as bad as some other reviews seem to imply .

Other Thoughts: Was only looking for two monitors, but since the price was so good I ended up getting three. All look excellent straight out of the box. I have them mounted above the hutch portion of a desk, and there is no issues with viewing angle looking slightly up at them. Overall very satisfied.

4 out of 5 eggsRemarkable from the waste up

Pros: Stunning display. Absolutely gorgeous. Picks up the freckles on the actors faces with streaming video. No shuddering or any visual input lag. No weird colors (some of the built in choices are terrible, but the default custom looks beautiful).

Cons: The power cable and brick is something I would expect to see on a router, not a monitor. My DELL TN LCD monitor uses the same cable as a standard desktop (three prong female), but this monitor uses a round DC cord (like you see on laptops). The brick for it gets ridiculously hot almost instantly. If this thing catches fire I will be back here to knock off all those stars.

Other Thoughts: This is the first IPS display I have ever used, so maybe I am just blown away by IPS and not necessarily this monitor. I got it pretty cheap though (newegg discounts ftw).

A few reviews here mention that it has terrible colors or input lag. So far I have only watched streaming video on it, but it performs as expected. You can do a google search and look at video reviews of it. There's one that shows Far Cry fire and it looks fine (so its not just me).

Another thing to note is that the monitor has a built in volume control (for passing audio through the HDMI channel). It defaults to pretty low and took a little while digging through the menu to find the control.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat IPS

Pros: Calibrated it as it was too bright at first. Googled up some calibration settings for this monitor in particular. My ps3 is hooked up to it and plays games fine. No ghosting. Viewing angles are great. Great image. Will use this as a my desktop monitor in the future.

Cons: THe stand ,I guess, but im not touching it.. so whatever. Its fine.

Other Thoughts: Great IPS if you can snag it below $150.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh......

Pros: Its works

Cons: From day one this monitor had a orange tint to it. I messed with the settings but only could get dark colors. Its not bad but for the price You could get a better response time.

2 out of 5 eggsKind of disapointed

Pros: - Good resolution
- Lightweight
- Has HDMI
- Easy switching between inputs
- Relatively cheap

Cons: I was kind of disappointed by this monitor. The colors it produces are disappointing. Even after fiddling with the settings for an hour I wasn't able to get it to look as good as my 5 year old Acer that has much more vibrant colors. Also, I dislike the matte screen.

Note that I'm testing these side by side with the same images.
