Is it just me or does this not have built in speakers? It is 2014, right?

For $150 you can't expect to get speakers.  I seem to recall I paid something like $170 and I didn't get speakers.  Look up an equivalent LG monitor with speakers and see what the price is.

Is this model LG 24EN33TW a "BRAND NEW" Item and does it have a "SPLIT SCREEN" capability? Thanking  you for response.

As I purchased my LG 24EN33TW back in 2013, It has been out for some time now. As far as i can tell there is no built in split screen, However there is an LG program that can be installed and used in conjunction with this monitor to allow for additional screen options. It is called the "Dual Smart Solution". I believe it allows for the use of 2 of these monitors and not a split screen. I hope this helps.

Can this monitor be used in both vertical and horizontal positions?

The base does not support vertical placement. The vesa mount will. The monitor doesn't have built-in software to rotate display. Rotation would have to be done by OS/Video Card.

What kind of DVI cable do I need for this? M-F?

You should use a standard DVI cable. It should have male connectors on both ends. The monitor has the female version with a white plastic insert with a bunch of holes or sockets in it for the pins in the cable to plug into. I hope that makes sense.  :)
