4 out of 5 eggsLG 27EA83R-D - RMA

Pros: This is a second review for monitor LG 27EA83R-D. See the previous review for all the pros - it's a great monitor.

Cons: This one has one dead pixel and cross hatching at the lower part of the screen.

Other Thoughts: The first monitor dropped dead after three weeks. Fortunately, it was in the 30 guarantee period and the newegg RMA was a breeze. This second monitor does have some issues but they are minor for me. The dead pixel is at the most lower right corner and is not visible unless you actively look for it. The cross hatching is visible if your are looking for it at a couple of inches from the screen. From a normal distance it's not an issue for me.
Not sure if I'll recommend this monitor anymore though. I kind off have mixed feelings now. If you are lucky to get one without issues, it's outstanding! Awesome colors and crisp picture at a great resolution! But if the second one fails, I'll probably go for a different brand... 1.5 eggs out due to the cons of this one and the fact that the first one died so soon...

5 out of 5 eggsLG 27EA83R-D Ocean Black 27"

Pros: Reputable brand.
Sleek design and great built quality.
1440p
No dead/stuck pixels.
Pre-calibrated.
Price (when it's on sale).
Inputs/outputs and packaging. Comes with the needed cables for 1440p, software drivers and calibration software. You will need a calibrator (sold separately) if you wan't to calibrate it. It also comes with the factory calibration report.
No back-light bleeding or cross hatching issues.

Cons: USB inputs are on the back and are not easy to reach. Most monitors have those on the side which is more convenient.
The buttons are kind of awkward to use but I think I'll get used to them.

Other Thoughts: I got this baby on sale for $499. I think that this monitor is the best bang for the buck at this price. I also checked out the ASUS PB278Q Dell U2713HM. The Asus does not have a USB hub and the Dell reviews report many back-light bleeding and cross hatching issues. The other choice was any of the non famous Korean brands but I don't regret spending a little more for this one. This is a great 1440p monitor. Cheaper than the other brands and comes with everything that I needed. I recommend it without a doubt!

4 out of 5 eggsGood, not great

Pros: Overall its a pretty nice monitor. Color is very good and comes pretty well calibrated out of the box, with little need for adjustment. The OSD menu is fully-featured and easy to use. The stand is very well made and functional. I really like the aesthetics of the bezel and base with the nice brushed aluminum looking finish. Comes with a cable for each input type. No dead or stuck pixels.

Cons: Image quality is good, but not great. There are 2 issues that made me dock an egg. 1) Being an IPS panel, it is prone to IPS glow (aka PLS glow) which can look similar to backlight bleeding. This can vary monitor to monitor. The one I received has a bit of glow from the bottom-right corner, but it is only noticeable on dark screens and not that bothersome to me. 2) Crosshatching. It is not too bad, as I only really notice it on a white screen if I lean in such that my face is a little too close anyway. At my normal viewing distance of about 2.5 feet, I don't notice it.

Other Thoughts: There is a price point at which I would have found the cons I listed, however minor, to be unacceptable. I picked this when it was at a very good sale price though, so I find myself content with it.
If you're picky, you probably won't be satisfied this. If you can live with some minor imperfections, this is not a bad way to go, especially when its on sale.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Monitors

Pros: Great overall monitor. I bought two of these for my workstation. Needed very little adjustment at setup. Crisp fonts, amazing colors.

Cons: Monitors tend to be a little bright at factory settings. Easily adjustable.

5 out of 5 eggsBest High resolution monitor yet

Pros: Besides it looks great the high resolution of course, very bright but not too bright. Colors look amazing everything is crisp, also has many features and options through the on board menu. I'v owned Dells and other brands this year 2013 in the same price range and so far this is hands down the best monitor for the money - best picture, and by far the best build quality. I highly recommend it, and if you select price alert....it will tell you when this monitor goes on sale occasionally for $550. Its worth $700-$800 in my opinion.

Cons: The stand doesn't have a side to side tilt, you have to move the entire stand. The buttons to access the menu are way too sensitive. Thats all ive found.

Other Thoughts: Buy it

5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor for gaming or business

Pros: Large screen has plenty of room for two pages or programs, Adobe color accuracy for business use, great real estate for gaming, great connection options, well designed stand.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: The LG 27 Inch IPS Monitor makes a great gaming as well as a professional quality monitor for home or business use with Adobe color accuracy as a prime feature. The clear and vivid color makes a great feature for gaming while the full two page size means enough screen space for two pages side by side.

The USB connection is a nice feature while the color calibration and rotating stand makes great features for professional’s whether you’re using image editing like Photoshop or video tools like Premiere Pro. The screen rotates smoothly from landscape to portrait but you will need to use your screen settings to change the desktop orientation.

The LG 27 inch IPS monitor is a great buy and well worth a purchase for excellent gaming and a great monitor for business use.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Sleek, elegant design. IPS. Picture in picture can be pretty useful sometimes.

Cons: Sigh... I really wanted to like this monitor, but after going through two panels I decided to give up. Both panels had cross hatching. One of the panels had severe light bleeding and one dead pixel (that was the panel that replaced the original panel). Both panels were made in June 2013. The cross hatching can be seen on white or light colored backgrounds and was showing up on the lower area of the screen. Out of the box, the yellow channel can be slightly on the greenish side, but changing its hue made it better.

Other Thoughts: Apparently buying monitors is like playing the lottery.

4 out of 5 eggsFar from perfect, but fine for my gaming

Pros: Great quality IPS screen, no dead pixels. The color accuracy out of the box was great. Nice USB 3.0 hub in the back. AC4 Black Flag, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3 looks great at 1440P and many other games.

Cons: The light bleed is terrible, even at 37/100 brightness the light bleed is unacceptable at the $700 price point. I had the Asus PB278Q (PLS panel) and it was much better at an even back lighting, however it developed dead pixels at an alarming rate.

Other Thoughts: Set my brightness to 37 to get the desired brightness and it looks good minus the light bleed on dark content. I'd rate it 3.5 eggs if possible. I will be keeping mine, I'd rater have light bleed over dead/stuck pixels personally.

1 out of 5 eggsUnacceptable panel quality at this price point

Pros: The monitor physically looks great. Super thin and I like the brushed aluminum plastic bezel. Great stand. I wish I could buy the stand by itself. Lots of inputs.

Cons: The panel. Suffered from severe back light bleed on the bottom left and IPS glow on the bottom right. The IPS glow was super distracting at anything that was trying to display anything remotely dark. It also had one dead pixel.

Other Thoughts: I find it rather insulting that these panels made it past their Quality Control. How does it make sense to charge $700 for this quality of a panel. I have now two qnix qx2710led monitors. Both of them combined cost me less than this thing and they both have better quality panels.

1 out of 5 eggsWow, very disappointed

Pros: Great resolution, brightness and for such a large monitor was surprisingly light.

Cons: Light bleed from almost the entire left side of the screen, with the botton-left corner being the worse culprit, made this an instant re-package and RMA.

Other Thoughts: Will report back again after I get a replacement, which will already cost me nearly $16 in shipping to send back to Newegg. Hopefully the second monitor isn't this bad. For a $700 monitor this is TOTALLY unacceptable. My old Samsung was half this price and had 0 problems with this.
