1 out of 5 eggsWorst 120Hz Monitor

Pros: Good Color

Cons: Read Below

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor for 120hz gaming in January 2013. I got it up and running properly in 120hz but soon noticed everything in motion on the screen was outlined in green, then purple, then red, then blue and progressively got worse. I RMA'd it back and they were graciously willing to help and replaced it. Once I got my second one hooked up I still noticed the tint of colors around objects in motion but it was significantly less so I told myself I could live with that.

After a few weeks I began noticing my games hitching on screen every few seconds. For a while I assumed it was the game or bad drivers until I noticed even moving my cursor around in circles on my desktop screen caused the cursor to repeatedly skip around approximately 2-3 inches across the screen every few seconds much like in game. I then tried the monitor on my other computer as well as a friends, and even a fourth on a simple Dell capable of 120hz. All had the exact same issue with the hitching.

I decided to contact Acer and explain what the situation was. After 2 and a half hours of convincing the technician that my monitor is indeed capable of 120hz and 3D, I was then asked to send the monitor to their repair location with a description of what the problem was. I gave them a short but very informative description of what was happening and what could be done to see it the easiest. After about two weeks with no monitor and no word from Acer, I randomly received my monitor back in a poorly packed box with a note saying "Could not find anything wrong". I plugged it back in and was not surprised it was still having the same issue. I tried to contact Acer again but had been refused another technician to describe my problem.

I will never buy another Acer monitor and hope no one has had the same problems with both my Acer monitors, and the terrible technicians. Now I have a useless $300 dollar monitor that will not properly run 120hz.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth it!

Pros: The 2ms response is perfect. The 120hz is amazingly better than my old 60hz..
Comes with cords and everything.
SUPER FAST SHIPPING. I got it in 2 days with free shipping a long with 3 other items at the same time even though those had the supersaver shipping.

Cons: This may apply to all 120hz in general, but when watching 24 fps films in 1080p/120hz the framerate gets out of sync sometimes and as a result tons of frames are dropped and the framerate goes down to what looks more like 10-15 fps.
This only happens occasionally and is solved by switching back to 60 hz (though then you technically get dropped frames all the time, because 24 fps does not go evenly into 60 hz)
What caused me to take 1 egg off was the light:dark contrast ratio and no stereoscopic 3D built in. My old monitor was fairly cheap 19'' 60hz and it has a better light:dark ratio. It says 3D but you have to buy a $100+ kit to use it.

Other Thoughts: Great size, I dont think I'll need to upgrade for a very long time. I almost considered wall mounting this, but Its not quite big enough to warrant that.

My cons aside, I am very happy with blowing my entire paycheck on this monitor.

2 out of 5 eggsScreen went half black

Pros: 120 Hz and price

Cons: Colors are washed out. Some backlight bleeding. Why on earth does the screen go literally half black on the left side?
After googling it looks as if others have the same prob. This is easily fixed by turing off the monitor and back on after a few minutes.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because it was 120Hz monitor and it was cheap mainly to be better at BF3. I will not pay this amount of money for a monitor that has some issues. I am RMAing this for a BenQ XL2420. The Asus 144 Hz was an option as well but I want quality and for ~$30 more why not. Also, my accuracy went up noticably in BF3...I recommend a 120Hz monitor for won't be dissapointed for sure.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Looking Monitor, Awesome Price

Pros: tl;dr:
matte screen (non-reflective)
great price
love the look

Cons: tl;dr:
had a stuck pixel, but a little tap would fix it. Happened 3 times in the first week, have yet to see it again.

Other Thoughts: Got the monitor at a discount during the July 4th Sale. Looks great, and while it doesn't have speakers in the monitor itself (who uses those anyway, buy yourself a decent pair of speakers for $30,) it includes a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack so you can run the audio through the monitor and to your speakers to control it from there. I personally won't use that and use the cable as an aux input for my phone in my car. Thanks for the cable, Acer!

The Orange on Black is nice, love the non-reflective matte screen, fairly slim, 120hz was great for the money, just remember to use the included Dual Link DVI cable (rather than the HDMI that most like I did will probably go for). Also, to get true 120hz, remember to change the settings in the NVIDIA Control panel

4 out of 5 eggsGood value 120hz

Pros: 120hz. I never thought I'd really notice that much of a difference between 60 and 120, until I had this hooked up side by side with my old monitors. Even dragging a windows explorer window around the screen is smoother.

Cons: Overdrive can cause some ghosting in games so I have it turned off. HDMI is strictly for PC, had it hooked up to a cable box and if you run 720i or 1080i it turns purple. Also has an annoying habit of prioritizing the HDMI input over the DVI input. If my PC stops displaying to the monitor (the 10 minute shut off monitor) it'll switch to the HDMI input even with the cable box off and just show a black screen. No HDMI audio output volume control.

Other Thoughts: Doesn't come with the hardware needed for nVIDIA's 3D. You'll need to buy that separately if you want to use 3D. The orange parts on the stand could clash with some people's setups but causes no problems with mine.

4 out of 5 eggsNice monitor

Pros: Very responsive - no input lag. Works nicely with Nvidia 3D vision), and I love the 120Hz refresh rate when I'm not using 3D.

Cons: Slow to power up. Backlight is not ideal for gaming immersion; the screen never really goes dark, there's always a bleed from the light coming through.

Other Thoughts: The backlight issue is only noticeable on darker colors, but it really breaks the atmosphere of games like Metro: Last Light. Overall I've been pretty happy with this monitor.

5 out of 5 eggs3D Works Well !

Pros: 3D Across 2-3 of these monitors works well and is easy to set up with Nvidia Control Panel.

Cons: To Use this monitor in 3D it requires you use a DVI connection and does not support 3D via HDMI; however, the specs say you can use a display port to DVI adapter if you can find the right kind. I however, was not able to find the right adapter type, but I didn't need to use one because I have 2 graphics cards in sli and was able to set up 3D surround with 2 DVI cables into the top card and 1 into the bottom.

Other Thoughts: Remember to view 3D content you will need to buy a universal or NVidia Stereoscopic 3D kit that comes with the glasses and transmitter.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: I own two of these Acer GD235HZ monitors. One is in dedicated use with a desktop, the other is switched between our networked TV tuners, laptops and BD player. Both have performed very well with about 5 years of use between them. One unit survived a lightning-induced spike that took out the HDMI switch in our main system.

Cons: Performance on very low light level scenes, such as in Zero Dark Thirty, is not great.

Other Thoughts: I've never tried out the 3D capability.

The price has not come down significantly since I bought my first unit several years ago- that's testimony to the quality of the product.

The range of the tilt axis is pretty narrow.
