Acer HN274Hbmiiid Black 27" 2ms Full HD HDMI WideScreen LED 120Hz 3D Monitor 300 cd/m2 ACM 10,000,000:1 w/Speakers & 3D glasses

Pros: Specs are very nice. Nice upgrade from my 24 inch, 60 hertz model.

Cons: Monitor failed after 14 months. It would not display any images. After doing some basic troubleshooting (swapping cords, computers, turning it on and off, etc.) I was unable to get anything but the back light to show. Naturally I sent it in for repairs.

The support guys were nice enough and it was pretty easy to get it sent in. Cost me around $30 to ship, but that's nothing for a $600+ monitor.

I received the unit back two weeks later. It came in a big brown box, not the retail box I sent in in. It also took bit longer than they said, but alright. It looked great. They had obviously replaced the panel with a brand new one. I was all excited to start playing Heart of the Swarm. I got into game when I noticed I couldn't read the mission objectives in the top left.

Apparently the back light was not installed correctly. It was skewed at such an angle that I couldn't see the full screen head on. I had to stand up and walk two steps left to be able to read the text. I pulled up a full page black screen and I was able to see a giant dark, diagonal line from the left side of the monitor to the top. Anything in or beyond that line was difficult/impossible to see.

So, I sent it in again. Back in the big brown box, which cost me $55 this time. Waited three more weeks to get it back. Same big brown box. Not happy but fine.

Same exact issue. I couldn't view it head on. It wasn't as bad, but it still wasn't acceptable. Cover your left eye and you will understand what I saw. At this point I'm ticked off that they couldn't fix the exact issue I sent it in for.

Immediately I chat with support. They connect me with the L2 fairly quickly. They take a few minutes to talk to their managers and I get a replacement monitor approved. Equivalent or better they tell me. Brand new, no more botched fixes, right? Don't even have to pay for shipping the old one back.

Well, this isn't a monitor they keep in stock. So, I wait two weeks while they search. They finally manage to order one and ship it to me. Here I am thinking this is finally over.

Nope. Of course not. Why would the third time be the charm? They sent me an V273H. Clearly inferior. Slower response rates, considerably worse ACM, 60 hertz instead of 120 hertz. Can't do 3d. Is the shipping tag in the box like they said? Who are you kidding? I actually prefer the block over the rounded, so there is one win.

Long story short, I spent $80+ to have them repair my monitor TWICE, both of which FAILED. Offered a replacement, given a monitor that has half the price.

Great Specs, Poor Service. Buyer beware.

Other Thoughts: It was nice while it lasted...

Pros: Excellent monitor in 2D mode. Capable of 120 htz (with DVI cable). Has several HDMI ports for multiple device inputs. 3D works fine. Bright, clear display with a nice fluid motion. Simple solid design. Set up took 5 minutes. No dead pixels and speedy, cheap shipping. Good purchase in my book.

Cons: I initially read some reviews of this monitor on newegg. A lot of people said the buttons on the monitor feel cheap, and they do. You almost have to roll your fingers across them rather than press them because of their design. A minor complaint. Also, the 3D glasses worked great. There is some darkening in 3D mode but that's to be expected. The glasses are a bit uncomfortable as many have stated before. I thought they would be uncomfortable on the bridge of the nose but it's actually the sides of the glasses that rest above your ears. They're version 1 nvidia glasses, newer models exist. Another minor complaint. All in all, I still give this package a thumbs up.

Other Thoughts: 1st time using a 3D monitor. Running with a gtx 560 ti and I've got no problems so far.

Pros: This is a great monitor for the price, it cannot be beat compared to other active shutter 3D monitors that actually work with AMD cards. It comes decently calibrated, only needed some minor adjustments. 120hz 2D 1080p works only on DVI-D for those wondering for AMD. 3D gaming in 720p for AMD works great, it is hardly noticeable and the frames are VERY smooth. GREAT downscaling & upscaling all around. 1080p DOES work for bluray dvds at 24hz. All in all, if you can't afford one of those MUCH higher priced 3D monitors that actually support display port(display port is the only way to support 3D 1080P AMD gaming) AND come with 3D shutter glasses, I'd highly recommend this monitor.

Cons: It does not support 3D 1080p at 60hz for AMD gaming at this time because hdmi 1.4a is limited to 720p 60hz(each eye) at the moment(hopefully fixed with firmware soon), this was expected though. The touch screen buttons are more to be desired, very annoying.

Other Thoughts: with 3d TriDef, to get this monitor to work, you need HDMI, just run the monitor as a standard display type 3d stereo 60/120hz. beautiful.

Pros: Great Picture. Bright and Crisp. 3d looks amazing.

Cons: My first monitor i ordered the 3d glasses didnt work. i contacted acer and they were beyond a doubt incompetent. AT first they said it wasnt a 3d monitor...then 2 seconds later said they wanted me to ship it to them, at my own cost. I called newegg right after gettin off of phone with them and they overnighted me a new one and i shipped the old one back. New monitor works fine.

Pros: Normally I'd wait a bit longer but I wanted to comment in regards to the guy who was asking about getting it to 120hz and the scaling.

Monitor is quite sleek, base is solid as well as the panel its self. Packaging is very good, no worries about damage, and comes with good heavy duty cables of a couple feet.

The Nvidia Vision glasses are version 1 (guessing since they now only sell version 2) Packaging for the glasses is superb, the frames themselves are nice but feel a little too fragile, cheap plastic feel. As for fitting, they aren't really comfortable and might be quite annoying if you wear glasses. (I and several glasses wearing friends tried them out)

Overall great looking quality. As for performance, games running at 1920x1080, 120hz are fantastic, no ghosting, no brightness or color issues. I'll update when I get more testing with video.

Cons: The 'touchscreen' buttons on the panel to adjust monitor settings are, annoying at best. Cool idea but they are quite finicky. That's my only beef in regards to construction.

Now for the other issue, 120hz and scaling. (I'm running a Radeon HD 7850) I initially plugged in using HDMI and had letter box, found the scaling in CCC (catalyst control center) and solved that issue. Only to find 75hz being my highest option. I double checked the specs in the manual and it stated that in 2D, the monitor could only go to 80/75 hz, ~120hz in 3D.

Then I swapped to DVI and a lot more options opened up. I'm slightly concerned as to why they say 120hz in 3D only, but it runs and only time will tell if it has any problems being 'sort of' rated for 120hz.

So, if you are running AMD graphics and are looking at buying this because it is 120hz, it works. Skip the HDMI and you don't have to deal with scaling and can run it at 120hz.

Other Thoughts: Guess I need to do some reading about HDMI in use for monitors. CCC treats is like a HDTV.

I can't speak to the Nvidia 3D aspect, I'll probably borrow a card from a friend just to try it, but it was not a reason for me to buy this panel.

Pros: Its arrived fast, it is very bright, all ports working and No Dead Pixels

Cons: Whats with the image sizing leaving boarders? I have the over scaling mazed and still have about 1/4" on each side.

Mine is only running in 60hz any anyone tell me how to enable the 120hz? I'm not seeing it in the ATI CCC and Windows is insisting on using a generic PNP driver for some reason?

I think I will return the ATI and get a NVidia to see if that corrects the issues with this monitor.

Other Thoughts: I just want it to work.

Pros: The monitor is bright with good color representation. The monitor is reasonably well constructed and has many features like the built in 3D transmitter, accompanying 3D glasses, built in speakers, that cost a lot more with other monitors. Acer even includes an HDMI cable for connectivity.

Cons: Very noticeable buzzing noise from monitor when brightness set below 100%. My understanding is, depending on the type of circuitry the brightness reduction can sometimes result in oscillation, which is the buzz or occasional high pitched whine that occurs when the circuitry has to 'sink' unused power. This problem can occur in groups of monitor because of mass production. I saw this occur in a batch of five - 23" Viewsonics that were ordered at work. Rather than end up in a possible loop of lost shipping charges I returned the monitor for a refund.

Other Thoughts: Newegg was very gracious in their help with the return, it is that kind of service that makes me the loyal customer that I am.

Pros: bright. and i mean very bright. vivid color. fast refresh. 3d across all 3 at the same time. easy to use menu's.

Cons: wide bezel and some what cheap feeling power buttons. power button not a problem as i never shut them off. just let them go to sleep.

Other Thoughts: got one and loved it so much i got another 2. all 3 came in working with not 1 dead pixel.

Pros: 2MS refresh rate, 1080 resolution, 120HZ. Nvidia 3d Vision.

Cons: Only con I have is the Nvidia 3D Vision doesn't work with every single game. Works with most though.

Other Thoughts: The 3D is just amazing. I wish every game I have ever played was like this. It does take a lot of power to run the 3D. My FPS dropped about 35-40% with 3d turned on and is now making me debate getting a second video card for SLI.

Cons: died in three(3) days, 100 dollars cheaper on a competitors site(they sell kindles)

Other Thoughts: gonna get a replacement via rma and give it 1 more shot
