Acer H9500BD 2000 Lumens 1080P Full HD 3D Home Theater DLP Projector w/ HDMI & USB

Pros: The picture quality, contrast, and color saturation are excellent for the price. A great value for the money, as long as you do not care about 3D.

Cons: The projector will not work with my Panasonic 3D Blu-ray player. I had to completely turn off the 3D for the projector to even detect the Blu-ray player, even for 2D. Acer tech support (level 1 and level 2) are completely useless - DTAR (dumber than a rock).

Pros: Picture quality is impressive to me. I previously owned a lower priced projector with 1080p native resolution which had really good reviews. I purchased the Acer around Nov. 2012 from Newegg because I wanted 3d capability. This projector picture was much clearer and more like viewing it live. Made it seem like the old projector wasn't even 1080p. Best with blu-ray discs. I have found the 3d in non-animated movies to be an enhancement in the viewing and it won't knock your socks off but that's not a criticism of the projector.

Cons: I've only used 2 projectors, both rated well, so I haven't used anything better that would make me dislike this one. If there is one thing that I noticed that could be considered negative, it is that the picture is so clear that it sometimes cheapens the appearance of some of the special effects in some of the movies.

Other Thoughts: In the electronics industry, there are usually improvements being made with the newer models. Maybe faster, smaller, etc..., but I use this daily and I'm pleased with it.

Pros: Picuture is great, 3d is awesome.

Cons: First Unit arrived damaged. NewEgg replaced it. Second item had (apparently) had already been registered by somone else.... so I guess I received someone's return? It took a submission of the purchase receipt to Acer to get the right purchase date corrected. 1 Week prior to the warranty running out the unit started powering down and then eventually just would not turn on. Its been returned to factory for serivce. UPS return shipping cost $63/w insurance. I inquired about purchsing an extended warranty directly from Acer that it was available but that the warranty dept would call me back. They never did. When I called back they said that a warranty was not available through ACER for Florida Residents. So...Buy an extended warranty w/in 90 days of purchase or else you cannot get one in the USA. For $1600 bucks it shouldn't break within a year when it has never moved from the ceiling mount.

Other Thoughts: Acer 3D galsses are hard to find. I've tried other brands but the ACER's have the best image due to their contrast and being made for the projector itself.

Pros: Nice appearance, nice overall picture. Heat is blown out of the sides unlike my previous lower end Acer.

Cons: The dynamic iris makes a loud squealing noise every adjustment. It sounds like metal rubbing against metal. It is an obvious defect.

The projector also turns off on its own for no reason. I read others posting about this. I have to plug it into another power strip and turn it back on. (It's not the power strip.)

While I do not usually like when people post about one-time defects or DOAs, I read about other issues with this projector. It seems the odds are more than small that you might get a bad one.

Pros: Great projector out of the box, easy sizing and lens adjustment, bright great looking HD. I have projecting on a 92in projector screen and for the price and my use it is just as good as an equivilant size lcd.

Cons: if you have big windows you will need shades(black out curtains prefered) a few lights on nearby is ok though. The 3D is not that inspiring to me and only one pair of glasses comes out of the box.

Other Thoughts: if you dont really want 3D then I recomend spending the extra money for more lumens.

Pros: Beautiful image when projecting at 100" in my theater room. 3d Upconversion is novel and works pretty well for TV. I've found the blacks to be pretty impressive with the caveat that you need to do some additional calibration of the Dynamic Iris functionality from the Service Menu to keep it from being overly active (and thus audibly noticeable).

Cons: Buying an H9500 is like buying a lottery ticket. Poor, poor, poor QA on Acers part. I understand these are high-precision instruments and have sensitive bulbs, but there are numerous other options out there (albeit, with fewer features) which appear to be much more reliable initially. My first unit did not fire immediately out of the box, the lamplit error appeared on the screen. I assumed a fluke and replugged the unit and it fired on the third attempt. After fewer than 12 hours, I began to have trouble with the unit firing the lamp and starting up the actual display. I would get a grey pulsing screen with no Acer Logo, input display, etc. The projector was unresponsive to the remote and button presses and required a hard power-down to get it out of this state. I finally gave up on Unit 1 after about 20hrs of testing. 40 dollars to send it back which is the cost of doing buisness with newegg.

Other Thoughts: I'm waiting for a replacement from Newegg right now. Unfortuantely, the projector cannot be refunded according to the return policy. I'd steer clear of this unit if I could do it again. Depending on how you value the key features at this pricepoint, that will certainly influence your decision. -- Major plus sides I see to the Acer: 1) Dynamic Iris, 2) 3d Functionality, 3) Lens Shift. If you don't care for these 3 features, look elsewhere.

Pros: Looks awesome even on my white primer wall. (Have not painted it yet after 4 months) Visitors are blown away. I have it at 128" in ECO. I use it for gaming, movies and Tv.

Cons: Slower menu and input switching. Fan is louder in non ECO mode.

Other Thoughts: I dont have firmware upgrade, and never saw a blurring or had any problems with games. This is a great deal for a family projector. You don't have to be techy to enjoy it

Pros: The HDMI blurring has been fixed and a color management system has been implemented in the new firmware. In addition, the 3D SBS tearing issue has also been resolved. A "VERY" good buy for $1600-1700. Very good. I posted a review, but NewEgg never posted it. C'mon guys. Post this. I can't update my first review.

Cons: Menu disappears too quickly. Only one user setting.

Other Thoughts: for the price and features, you can't beat it.

Pros: I wrote the review below titled "Would be great but for a few flaws". Well, Acer has finally released new firmware that fixes 2 of the 3 issues I orginally complained about: blurring over HDMI, and SBS tearing! Newegg does not allow me to edit my original review, so instead I am creating this new review and giving it 5 stars, as promised.

Cons: You have to return your projector to Acer for the FW fix; it is not user-installable.
Still has very high lag in 3D mode - OK for movies but bad for 3D games.

Other Thoughts: It took Acer far too long to come out with a FW fix for these problems. They would sell many more projectors and make customers a lot happier if they didn't take 6 months to fix things.

Pros: Actually would give 4.5 eggs now. I now have the updated firmware for the unit and just about everything is fixed. 1:1 pixel is right and I hear the SBS tearing is also fixed. Some more color management has been added too.

Cons: This would probably get a 5 score if not for the still clunky menu and we still don't get full grayscale calibration.

Other Thoughts: All things considered, this is still a great value for the price and performance. It took some doing but Acer did fix the unit and is taking care of owners. Since I cannot edit my first review this serves to correct that now.
