5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Hot this as a Shell Shocker deal for $250. Amazing, amazing deal. This is my first 3D monitor or Tv, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it is extremely smooth and easy to use. The interlacing is noticeable at first but once you get going you won't notice it at all. For the price I paid, I am an incredibly satisfied customer.

Cons: No DVI input. My card has 2 DVI and 1 mini HDMI so attaching it was a little bbit of an issue.

Other Thoughts: Originally wanted to get the 27 inch 3D Asus monitor but it was way too expensive. I'm very happy I found this instead for a perfect price.

4 out of 5 eggsknow what ur buying

Pros: Compared to active 3D: 1) cheaper glasses, 2) glasses don't need recharge 3) no eye fatigue because no open/close shutter 4) price

Compare to other passive 3D: 1) Large display. Don't think there's another one larger that isn't a TV. (as date of this writing)

General: Works with NVIDIA 3D Vision. I'm told from review sites that colors are accurate. I'm no graphics pro so I'll take their word for it.

Cons: Compared to active 3D: 1080p/2 resolution in 3D. For passive 3D to be equivalent to 1080p active 3D quality, passive 3D must be 2160p (which doesn't exist ...yet?).

General: 1) Color distorts when angle of view deviates from the center 2) Speakers only for VGA input! If you connect your monitor via DVI (adapter to HDMI) and want to use analog audio, you can't!

Other Thoughts: Before you buy, know what you're getting yourself into with this passive 3D technology.

By nature of design, image quality is worse than active 3D. On 1080p, only 540p is sent to each eye.

Capable of side by side, top by bottom, and interlaced.

In 3D, u see black horizontal lines. Kind of like in the movie Robocop where u see through his eyes. The black lines are thinner than Robocop's and less noticeable if sit farther than 2ft.

In 2D mode, you can still see the black lines if you are 1ft away with black text on white background. But even less noticeable than in 3D.

The 3D is best used for full screen 3D content. 3D is terrible for computing stuff, like reading text on webpage.

Built in 2D-3D:
Not too impressive. Don't think I will ever use that feature. It's like laying a beach towel over a few rocks. The image on the towel is your 2D-3D effect. There's no clear defined edges. Image just looks lumpy.

Supports NVIDIA 3D so it's really up to the game ur pl

4 out of 5 eggsGood passive 3D monitor, with a caveat

Pros: 2D performance and pixel density is great and as bright as anyone would want. Colors are vibrant. In 3D, there are fine adjustments, and it's regularly updated with new games coming out. Enabling 3D was easy, and in fact the software to do so was already installed on my computer. The glasses are comfortable and I was able to wear them over my regular glasses. They seem to be a higher quality then the 3D glasses that came from the movie theater which produced a purple ghosting when used. The base has a vertical tilt adjustment which IS NEEDED in order to have the monitor at the proper viewing angle for the 3D effect.

Cons: In 2D, there ARE faint horizontal lines across the screen. As far as I've seen, all passive monitors have this; however it is still a major con. If you are not aware of this, when you first get your monitor you may be in for a shock. In 3D, especially at the close distances you would normally use a monitor, the black lines caused by the way passive technology works are very visible and do effect the apparent resolution of the game. When I first tried it, I thought there wasn’t really that much difference, but then I switched back to 2D and it was a shock at how much better that looks. And as with all current 3D formats, ghosting may be evident in high contrast situations.

Other Thoughts: Any text that has lines one pixel thick (like browsing the internet, small type, etc) is difficult to read in 3D as the eyes don’t really know how to line it up correctly. Any text larger than that is clearly legible with no trouble reading it. Since I’m pretty sensitive to the troubles of active 3D, currently my only other option for 3D for me is passive. Passive has its own troubles though, and those are prevalent in this monitor. However, from what is currently available, this is the best passive 3D monitor on the market. Because of these last two points, I’m giving this monitor a four out of five.

3 out of 5 eggsSo good and yet so meh

Pros: Absolutely beautiful gameplay in 2D. Stunning movie playback in both 2D and 3D, and flawless 2D-3D conversion on-the-fly. 3D in movies works subtly-- you just know that things are more intense, but you're not "aware" that it's really different. Even having to wear glasses isn't as bothersome as I feared.

Cons: You have to sit at the right angle and distance for 3D ghosting to be tolerable. For movies, this is easy, but for games, it isn't. By the time you're close enough that you can have your keyboard and mouse on the same desk as the monitor, you're too close and ghosting is bad. There's also a lot more tiny detail in game UI that does not remain legible in 3D mode. The monitor is also not as good at regular computing tasks as the Dell it replaced. Whites are kind of muddy, and you can't brighten them without washing colors out. Finally, the electrostatic menu controls are horribly frustrating: too sensitive, no tactile feedback. What's wrong with buttons?

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor for 2D gaming and 3D movies, using auto 2D-3D conversion. It does these things fantastically. That this conversion doesn't so well in games is disappointing, but not terrible. I'm not happy, though, that my normal desktop experience is not as good as what Dell can mass produce.

Finally, if you buy this monitor, you have to do the following: put on the glasses and go look at yourself in the mirror. Freaky! :)

5 out of 5 eggsGood passive 3d display

Pros: Delivers good passive 3d up close. No input lag in 2d or 3d. Acer uses Nvidia's 3d drivers and outputs the 3d in the monitors native interleaved 3d without having to make any change to the monitor and in 1080p at 60hz. 3d vertical viewing angle allows about a 10-11 inches up & down eye movement at 2 feet before ghosting is noticed. (A narrow 3d vertical viewing angle is present in all passive displays). Glasses are well designed and block side lighting from hitting your eyes.

Cons: Needs 2 user settings for 2d & 3d. Don't confuse this for the near same model number as the Acer active 3d monitor (HN274H). The negatives that exist in all passive 3d displays are also present here, mainly FPR line faint visibility showing more when close up. You will not be able to use a SLI configuration with this monitor.

Other Thoughts: This is a passive 3d monitor as compared to active. This is my 2nd passive set and I have little experience with active 3d. Know and understand the pros and cons/trade-offs of each before you purchase. Passive sets are brighter but loose some image quality when putting on 3d glasses as FPR lines faintly show up. A passive set is often the least expensive way to view 1080p at 60hz than active but people often talk about a drop in resolution to each eye but I feel your brain fills in the 540 resolution you receive to each eye and combines it. The biggest loss in image quality happens when you stick on the glasses and not when you switch the 3d on & off. The negatives that you get with this monitor are present in all passive sets so I won't reduce the monitors rating because of them. Likewise there are also negatives/trade-offs with an active 3d display.
