Rating: 5/5Perfect for ThinkPad T61 Docking Station
This review is from: Acer B223WGJbmdr (ET.EB3WP.G01) Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 ACM 50000:1(1000:1) Built-in Speakers
Pros: This monitor at 22" and 16:10 ratio is perfectly matched to the 1680x1050 resolution of the video card in my ThinkPad's docking station. The monitor is very crisp, evenly back lit and bright.
The contrast is very high; blacks are very black. In fact, I do a lot of programming in Vim. I set the background to black with colored text. On other monitors, the backlight shows through the black pixels and brightens up a dark room. Not with this monitor. I have the contrast and brightness set to 40% and 50% respectively, and the display is plenty bright. So lots of range for many different environments.
One of the big pros, and also the deciding factor in buying this exact model, is the 3-way adjustable stand. It has elevation, tilt, and swivel.
Cons: The monitor's built-in menu system is a little user-unfriendly. There is an "Auto" button that is misnamed. It is primarily used to EXIT. Other than that, it does nothing else when connected via DVI-D. It may be for auto focusing when connected via VGA.
The base of the stand is aesthetically unappealing. It is simply a big, concave, rectangular piece of black plastic.
No DVI-D cable included. Compared to VGA, DVI is the best way to connect these monitors and offers the highest quality display. Many display adjustments are automatic and a non-issue when using DVI.
Other Thoughts: I haven't tried the built-in speakers, so no comment on those.
I was reluctant to buy a refurbished monitor, assuming it may have dead pixels. However, even new monitors come with dead pixels. So I thought I would save $50 and go the refurbished route. I was pleasantly surprised to get a like-new monitor that's pixel perfect!
