5 out of 5 eggsA discovery!

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Ok so the pros are that these monitors are extremely sleek and just look astonishing on the desk. The bezel from the monitor as you can probably tell from in the pictures is pretty much non existent except for the bottom part. On top of being low cost compared to other monitors in the same price range, these come with all the connections you would probably use to connect it to your PC. Another thing that might be a pro is that the base of the monitor has a little image of a clip, and this part is actually a magnet within the base itself; so if you are maybe working around your PC and don't want to loose some screws, the monitor has got you covered. I use these monitors for gaming, and those that say that the response time isn't' fast enough or that an IPS panel is not good for gaming, well they might be right but I don't notice the difference!. My gaming is the same I do not feel that the monitors hinder my gaming performance at all.

Cons: Alright so now on the the cons. These monitors are not mountable to any type of arm, since they are missing the screws on the back of the screen. The monitors can only tilt, you will not be able to adjust the height of the monitors at all, zero! These monitors are not anti glare, so if you have your desk pointing away from the window in such a way that the sun will hit the monitors, then you can definitely expect some glare. While I did previously state that the monitors did not have a bezel (or was almost non existent, the display does not actually reach the border of the monitor, instead the image is about a 1/4" form the bezel. Now on to my last minor complaint and then on to the big one! The buttons on this monitor feel flimsy, they wiggle in the little slot that they are, and can sometimes be hard to press. PLEASE READ OTHER THOUGHTS IF YOU ARE THINKING OF BUYING TWO OR MORE OF THESE MONITORS FOR DOUBLE OR SURROUND DISPLAY.

Other Thoughts: OK so here is what I did, I was looking for monitors at Newegg, and happened to stumble on these. I thought they were good enough so I decided to buy two of them. When they arrived they were all intact, I built the base attached it to the monitor "simple setup" and then I got to putting the monitors side by side... and this is where there was an issue. One monitor was at least 1/2" higher than the other monitor (or so I thought). I destroyed some cardboard and put it underneath the monitor that I thought was short so that I would have a nice double display. After about a week while fixing my desktop (not pc) around for a better set up, I happened to notice something weird about these monitors. When putting the monitors side by side one was taller than the other one, and then when I switched the monitor places the same thing happened (one was shorter than the other). I thought this was odd, for how can it be that the taller monitor is now shorter than the other one? So I decided to check with a leveler whether or not the screens were leveled. What I found was that both monitors were tilted slightly to the Right!, which made me think that one of these monitors was shorter than the other when putting them side by side. Just to make sure that the leveler was right, I measured the right hand side of the screen with a measuring tape, and then I measured the left hand side. The measurements were Right: 15 3/4", Left: 16". I didn't notice that the monitors were this crocked for an entire week, and probably would have never figured it out had I not been messing around with my desktop. Now I think that this is too much of a coincidence, since both of my monitors measured the same 15 3/4" on the right and 16" on the right when measuring from the bottom of my floor to the top bezel of the monitor. Now what I did to remedy this slope on my monitors was to put some folded paper between the neck and base of the monitor on the right hand side to make that side higher. After some tinkering around with the display unscrewing putting more pieces of paper in and redoing, I finally got my display to be leveled! My advice to you is just to not expect these monitors to be leveled, or possibly even to be of the same height! If you do happen to notice that one monitor is higher than the other just check whether or not the monitors are leveled, and then apply the fix I did to make them look nice and leveled, I hope this review helped you make a decision for all in all I would still buy them again, and in fact I am about to order another one :).

4 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for Buck When Purchased

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Decent price point for having HDMI and LED Backlighting.

Cons: A bit slanted on the blue side at first opening, adjust your setting as soon as you have it set up.

Other Thoughts: Bright but too blue at first. Calibration helped but still a bit blue for my tastes. I suppose for the price it can't be a deal breaker. When will we see AMOLED Monitors?

Pros: Clear, crisp display. Size is just right.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend this monitor.

3 out of 5 eggsGood monitor, needs some QC

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Bright colorful high contrast screen with good viewing angle - like IPS should be. Unobtrusive power light. VGA/DVI/HDMI inputs. Came with a full set of video cables (see cons).

Cons: Arrived with two DVI cables, but no power cord. Fortunately I found one at a local store.
Base was slightly bent - 5/8 inch (15mm) difference between height of lower left and lower right corners. Tried reassembling it several times to make sure it wasn't 'operator error'. Eventually assembled it with a shim it so it sits level. One egg off for each fault since either one would be cause for an RMA.

Other Thoughts: Glossy screen which some people won't like, and it uses a power brick that some people won't like either.
The crooked base was a disappointment since I chose this monitor over another monitor because the other had a reputation for wobbling. But, even shimmed up, the base is pretty solid.
FYI, the monitor will auto-switch to the next live input if the signal from the current input stops.
The power/menu buttons are practically invisible, but easy to operate by touch since a small menu pops up above them when pressed. If you hate excessively bright power indicator lights, you will love this one. It shines down onto your desk instead of into your eyes. There's a magnet in the base allowing you to accumulate small metallic objects, but keep your floppy disks away! LOL!
If it had come with the power cable, and the base had been straight, I'd rate it an excellent monitor for the money. I've been using it 2-4 hours per day with no problems for 2 months now (home use). However, because of the mis-manufactured base, I can only rate it as a good monitor. Acer needs to step up their quality control a bit.

3 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Really good color
Very small bezel

Cons: Ghosting
Bad stand
Takes a while to turn on
Glossy screen

Other Thoughts: The ghosting was pretty bad for me in my opinion. I had to buy another monitor because I was getting dizzy during gaming. I would not suggest IPS monitors for gaming purposes.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Monitor, best i ever had.

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Beautiful monitor. I love the edge to edge glass, which cover the bezel on the edges. The side bezels are thin but nothing to brag about (its very pretty though). The base stand is a dark brushed aluminum plastic which compliments any desk. Also the stand has a magnet for any clips. It has all the connectors you'd want.

Cons: No VESA mount!! I'll have to jerry rig it to mount it on an arm. Im thinking double sided tape

The Stand does not come off easily! I tried to remove it with great difficulty since it does not have an easy release mechanism.

Other Thoughts: I'll have to jerry rig it to mount it on an arm. I'm thinking double sided tape, or take off the back panel and cut hole on it like a brave person did in a link i found.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat monitors, but stand was off

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: The screen looks great, the monitor was a great price, no dead pixels, great colors and clarity, thin bezel.

Cons: Bought two of these, but they don't even sit at the same height as each other. It's obviously not a major problem, but I would expect when buying two of the exact same product that they'd at least sit the same. One monitor stands easily a half inch shorter than the other. Acer support was useless when asked about the issue and refused to send me a replacement stand.

Other Thoughts: Great monitors for the price, but have a terrible stand. Also very glossy (if that bothers you)

2 out of 5 eggsJunk Stand

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Great display. Looks sharp and beautiful if not off center.

Cons: Horrible stand; when I put it together for the first time it was slanted badly to the side. Had to leave stand cover off to balance the screen. Bad button placement.

Other Thoughts: Skip this monitor folks; don't you dare click add to cart! Quick you have time, remove!

1 out of 5 eggsIPS is either overrated or this monitor was defective.

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: The screen was large and affordable. Got it for 140$. When a white/bright image was on screen it did look reasonably good. 1080p was gorgeous for some HD movie watching. The audio jack was also really nice and useful.

Cons: There's so many things wrong with this monitor I don't even know where to begin...

Colors are washed out with no options to change them. Viewing angle is disappointingly low, turning gray after about 15-20 degrees. The black levels the monitor has are so bright and washed out anything dark becomes unwatchable. There's painful light bleeding in the lower corners. Calibrating the monitor was effectively impossible, as I had to choose between either dark blacks and dull whites, or bright blacks and washed out whites. Nothing I tried could get the image looking balanced -- likely due to the limited video options.

The reflection and glare on the screen itself was awful. Even with all the lights in my room turned off I could still see my white shirt reflecting off of the screen. It was extremely distracting, especially during games. I can never honestly recommend an IPS monitor to anyone for this reason.

After the high review praise for the monitor's color and black levels, I believe my monitor is defective. My 7-year old 17" store-bought monitor provides a more satisfactory image quality. With 24 hours of use I was already hooking my old monitor back up. Extremely disappointing.

Other Thoughts: I'm working to send it back and buy a superior TN panel monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

This review is from: Acer H6 Series H236HLbid Black 23" 5ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LED Backlit LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Great quality, sleek monitor, it is one of the sleekest monitors i have ever seen, it is completely black, i have not seen one dead/stuck pixel and the color quality is good. It is completely black and the menus are easy to access.

Cons: Had to adjust the color a little, probably just me.

Other Thoughts: If you have a budget and want a good monitor, this is a GREAT monitor for the price.
