3 out of 5 eggsGreat screen on sale

Pros: I got this monitor on sale, and for the price I paid, it's a steal. I upgraded from a 21.5" 1080p monitor, and the size, resolution, and DPI on this monitor, comparatively, are fantastic. It was worth every penny to me for those reasons alone. I do a lot of programming, and It's nice having the option to tile windows across 28" of space.

Cons: There's one stuck pixel in the top left quadrant of the screen. It's only noticeable when the monitor is black, and it's so small that when the monitor is in use it's not visible at all. It actually took me about a week to notice.

There's a huge problem with ghosting, especially with darker content, though you can see a trail even behind the cursor when you move it, if you look closely. It's something I really didn't like at first, but I've grown to care less.

The speakers are garbage, but I didn't expect anything different.

Lastly, I'm still not sure what's causing this, it could be entirely unrelated to the monitor, but every once in a while the screen blanks for ~5 seconds, then comes back. I just added another video card, and I have a tendency of running bleeding edge software, so again, it could be entirely unrelated to the monitor. I'm just not sure yet.

Other Thoughts: Most OSes have trouble doing DPI scaling properly, especially on HiDi displays. Expect text and UI elements to look funky sometimes. That's the price of being an early adopter.

If not for the ghosting and stuck pixel, I would rate this monitor 5 eggs without hesitation.

2 out of 5 eggsToo many issues

Pros: This screen does offer a good 4K experience for people that are into productivity such as graphic design or video editing. High resolution looks great and scales well in Windows 8.1.

Cons: The first thing wrong with this screen is the fact that I suffered the ghosting issue. Tried multiple cables, the one that came with it, a $50.00 DP cable and a mini DP to DP cable. All of them had ghosting issues.

Second issue was with gaming. Though this screen can output good resolution, there are too many issues with stutter, tearing and ghosting in games. If you want to game, get the XB280HK.

Other Thoughts: Though this is a good screen and seemed to work great in Windows, I do a lot of gaming on this rig besides my everyday work.

As a computer technician, it did have its plus sides of being able to open multiple remote connection screens, working on Dreamweaver and more. But the gaming aspect really got to me.

I attempted to return the monitor, but since I had it for 2 1/2 weeks, I did not have the box still, so I could not RMA it. Contacted Acer to see if I could trade up at all, but they stated they don't have any program like that.

After listing it online, it sold pretty quick and I got my money back for it that way. I then spent the extra $50.00 to get the XB280HK.

If you have the money, I would definitely recommend the XB280HK because it is theoretically the same monitor, but has GSYNC built into it. I have never owned a GSYNC monitor so I did not know what to expect, but I can tell you when it comes to gaming, it makes a HUGE difference.

NOTE: If you are going to be gaming in 4K, you will NEED an SLI setup. Though it will run on a single card (GTX 970 or 980), it does not run as well on a single GPU than multiple. Currently running this screen on two MSI GTX 970s and it works perfectly fine.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: Great resolution & picture quality. OK for games if your graphics card can handle the native 4k resolution.

Cons: Screen flickering after 1 month of use. Changing HDMI cables and using different computers did not fix the problem. The monitor is unusable. Sending this back to NewEgg with RMA.
poor refresh rate at 4k makes UHD worthless. Eyestrain at 4k resolution.
poor sound quality but does not bother me as I have a 5.1 sound system.

Other Thoughts: Great value if it works.

-Good build quality
-Height adjustment
-Stable base
-Lots on inputs
-Integrated speakers
-Lots of desktop space at 4K
-Cable management holes in the base

-Text can be tough to read in some circumstances
-Scaling can make some websites look ugly
-Occasional quiet buzzing sound that does not seem related to the speakers
-Colors are washed out
-Color shifts noticeably from top to bottom of screen
-Odd ghosting behind the mouse curser in Windows 8

1 out of 5 eggsVery poor product

Pros: - UHD
- Lots of ports auxiliary ports!
- Latency is very low.

Cons: - Color reproduction is horrible, even for a TN panel. Everything looks washed out, like the brightness and contrast are both extremely high, but turning both down doesn't fix the issue. In addition, colors are never close to right, no matter how much you mess with the 6-axis color settings.
- OSD is difficult to use due to poor software design, which makes it more difficult to fiddle with the color settings. This makes it difficult to get the 6-axis color settings close to right.
- Viewing angles are horrible, both horizontally and vertically. I currently have mine vertical because I don't watch videos or play games on it, so it serves no purpose as a typical monitor, but instead gets used as a code monitor when I'm working on longer segments of code, but even then I avoid it like the plague because the colors of everything get distorted.
- Ghosting is pretty bad. It won't affect a lot of people, but with a triple monitor set up, it made it extremely obvious in comparison with other monitors that didn't have similar issues.

Other Thoughts: After seeing this in-person, I came to the conclusion that I disliked it so much that I wanted to return it, but to do so would cost me over 1/3 of what I paid, so instead of that I'm going to sell it locally for more than what I'd get out of a return.

As a side-note, I purchased a couple of Asus PB287Q's used from another large online retailer's Warehouse Deals, and I'm much happier with those two than with the one Acer. Once I get rid of the Acer, I'll be buying a third Asus to complete my monitor set-up.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This monitor is awesomely large. I have to say that the 4K DOES make a difference!!! Its crystal clear and the colors look amazing. I am using the display port to my video card and it seems to work just fine. I haven't seen any of the ghosting that others mentioned yet. I am really happy with the monitor other than a few things.

Cons: I do have some cons. The shipper, OnTrack, decided it was a good idea to leave it at my front door instead of at my apt.'s office like they are supposed to. I agree with other reviewers, if your going to buy this monitor, buy some speakers to come with it. The speakers don't get loud AT ALL!!! I thankfully have another monitor hooked up with built in speakers that work great.

My biggest complaint:
I have three monitors now. This one, a 27' LG, and a 21' Samsung TV. Because of the resolution of this monitor, the movement of the mouse to the 27' is difficult because you have to go half way up the side of the screen for it to go onto the bottom of the next one, and the picture is blown up on on my other two. Maybe someone out there knows of a way to fix this, but I haven't found anything yet.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor bad cable and bad service

Pros: Beautiful 4k resolution, the monitor itself is quite pretty. Lots of input options.

Cons: The provided displayport cable is not able to support the monitor at 4k 60hz, which is pretty much the only reason any one is buying this monitor in the first place. I first thought the monitor was bad, then my graphics card, then finally after hunting online and on here determined a high quality displayport cable should solve the issue. At least newegg took care of that. Acer is silent on the issue as their lovely tech support is only Mon-Fri 9-5 They really drop the ball on support.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor, but noticeable ghosting.

Pros: This monitor is great, especially for the price!

First off, it was very well packaged. The outer box was decently banged up in transit, but there was more than enough Styrofoam to ensure that the monitor itself wasn't damaged

The 28 inches dwarfs my smaller 23 inch 1080p monitors.

The screen real estate is perfect for coding and watching movies at the same time.

The amount of input ports and technology supported is amazing as well, display port, mini DP 1.2, HDMI ( I'm not sure if it supports 2.0), and DVI. You won't be lacking options for input either, because they include all necessary cables as well. Just not to run this at 4k @ 60Hz you're going to need to use HDMI 2.0(once again, I'm not sure it supports this) or one of the display ports.

Gaming on this bad boy is also great. 4K @ 60FPS is pretty much impossible to attain with any single card at max settings in modern games, but you can do it for slightly older titles. When you do manage to get it though, it looks beautiful.

The amount of swivel and rotation that the stand allows for is really great too, and there are standard VESA mounts if you want to mount this guy on the wall. Plenty of options.

USB 3.0 pass through! This is great. my collection of USB 3.0 devices is growing constantly, so to have a hub built into my monitor is really great. I haven't done any speed comparison tests vs direct to the motherboard or front panel, but I can't imagine it's too much slower.

Cons: The biggest con for me was the noticeable ghosting effect. Typically on white backgrounds, when I move my mouse or scroll text there is a very noticeable trail. I'm hoping it's the DP cable that came with the unit, since other reviews said that they switched it out and it works wonderfully after the fact. I'm going to attempt a different cable as soon as it ships to me.

The other big con for me are the terrible speakers. These things sound like tin cans you use when your a kid to make a telephone.
I get that they're built in, so they won't be great, but at this point, don't bother including them, and save some money, Acer! I wasn't really planning on using the speakers much anyway, because I use the monitor in a communal office and have nice headphones, but they really do seem like an afterthought.

A very minor complaint is the stand is very wobbly. the monitor will shake a bit when people walk nearby, but I can't ding it too much for this since the monitor is very wide and the stand offers so many different configurations, it's bound to be a bit wobbly for the price point of the monitor.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my purchase, even with the very distracting ghosting. I'll update the review stating whether the cable fixes matters or not. Speakers aren't a huge issue if you use headphones or are using external speakers, which I imagine most people are doing anyway.

My specs are as follows:
CPU: it 5930k @ 3.5 (stock for now)
GPU: MSI 970 GTX Gaming G4
Mobo: AsRock Extreme 4 x99
Ram: 16GB (4x4GB) Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400 PC4-19200 1.2V
Main Storage: Samsung 840 Evo 250GB

Various other HDDs.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Monitor Acer B286HK

Pros: Love this monitor. Love the colors, the image quality, the way I can read documents even though the font is smaller.

Gaming is absolutely beautiful on this monitor. I had no idea what I was missing. Detail is incredible.

I don't think I will ever be able to go back to a 1080p monitor. The thought makes me sick to be honest, its that good. Yes it is.

Cons: The included Display Port cable did not work for me at 60hz resolution. I had to get a Cable Matters cable to allow this monitor to display properly at 60hz.

Once I got the new cable all ghosting disappeared and the monitor stopped flashing to a black screen. Previously, ghosting and flashing to black screen was the order of the day on the stock cable. So invest in a good cable.

Other Thoughts: At first I was a little worried about the font size. I needn't bother.

Went in to Windows control panel and set the res scale to 150%. The font is larger but still much smaller than my older 1080p display.

But... after a few days I love that the font is so small. I can still easily read it. Because it is now much sharper than the old monitor was. And, now I can place two windows on the desktop at once and get more work done.
