Take your gaming and movies to the next level with the Acer XG270HU monitor. It features 27" large viewing real estate and 2560 x 1440 WQHD resolution that delivers every bit of detail. Everything looks fantastic on the screen thanks to the fast 1ms response time, 144Hz frame rate and ACM 100,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It also supports FreeSync technology, for tear-free and stutter-free gaming. HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort inputs are built onboard. Plus, its frame-less design with arresting red stand are easy on the eye, while the flicker-less, low dimming and Comfy View technology ensure the Acer XG270HU are comfortable to your eyes.

General information

Unrestrained Brilliance

The high resolution of this monitor (WQHD, 2560 x 1440 pixels) combines with a rapid refresh rate of 144Hz and a blazingly fast response time of 1ms to deliver ultra-smooth action sequences in great detail. This is also the world’s first frameless gaming monitor, so all that action is free to go where your mind goes.

General information

High-Speed Connections

As a high-end gaming monitor, the XG is designed to handle high rates of data transfer. To get all that data to the monitor quickly and smoothly requires high-bandwidth data cables. That’s why these monitors come with high-bandwidth connection ports like HDMI 2.0, DVI (Dual Link), and DisplayPort.

General information

Great Eye Protection

These monitors help to reduce eye strain with Flicker-less, low-dimming (dim to only 10% of brightness in dark environments), anti-glare, and blue-light filtering technologies. Flicker-less technology reduces strain-causing screen flickering, while the blue-light filter lets you filter out harmful blue light. Acer ComfyView technology cuts screen glare to further reduce eye strain.

General information

FreeSync Eliminates “Tearing”

This monitor’s DisplayPort port supports DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync. That means this monitor can work with a FreeSync-supporting graphics card and driver software* to eliminate screen tearing, while minimizing lag and latency. With FreeSync, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and delivers very smooth gaming experiences.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Prominent Screen Flicker

Pros: - High resolution
- High refresh rate
- Looked great for ~5 months

Cons: Prominent screen flicker has started. There is a cycle of 3 rapid "flickers" every second. During the flickers the monitor goes dim, not black, and the resolution seems to fluctuate. I have tried different graphics cards, different inputs, different cables, using a laptop as the source input, moving the monitor away from other electronics to eliminate interference, wiping my ssd and reinstalling windows (thinking some driver or setting somewhere could still be the cause), graphics driver rollbacks (using guru3d to purge old drivers in safe mode), plugging power directly into the wall vs. power strip, and different monitor drivers. All still result in the flicker. Additionally, I have noticed the flicker gets worse the longer the monitor stays on.

I also tested my gpu (gtx 970) with an old monitor, no flicker was seen.

Other Thoughts: Only used for gaming, total usage per week is about 2-3 hours. I would recommend this monitor to others, sometimes you get a bad egg, this monitor was fantastic while it lasted.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 1440p monitor for $350

Pros: High refresh rate
High resolution

Cons: No height adjustment
No vesa mount
non-standard power adapter
bright (lowest brightness setting is a bit high still)

Other Thoughts: Freesync is great
Got on sale for $350 which is a great price for this monitor

4 out of 5 eggsNearly perfect

Pros: Good price and specs. I love playing games on it; Free Sync is amazing.

Cons: The stand could be a bit better.
I have 1 stuck pixel in the lower left corner. I rarely notice it though, so it isn't that big of a deal to me.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat monitor for gaming, Very shaky though

Pros: Looks crisp and clean
Light weight
Thin with Super thin edges
I'm probably one of the only people who likes the orange-ish color of the monitor
RMA process is fairly clean so far
By far the price of the monitor could not be touched for the features this thing has. Free sync, 1440, 144 hz, 1ms.
It felt like it was made of quality material. Didn't feel cheap at all.
Arrived the day after ordering and I don't even have premier or didn't pay for super fast shipping.

Cons: Mine came with a column of dead pixels
It was shipped in just the monitor box which felt secure but I feel like to avoid problems like I had they should have added an extra box just for security. **update: I got my replacement and everything came fine**
I think I prefer monitors that have the connections going out towards the bottom as opposed to sticking straight out of the other side. I found it difficult to plug in my cables when testing without touching the screen just a bit. Just a little quip that I believe a 90 degree cable could fix. Do they even make those for display ports and hdmi?
One thing I didn't review my first time around was the stand. The stand is really insecure. I feel like I can see the monitor move a bit when typing (which is NOT good for CS:Go). It could be a lot sturdier in my opinion and It will be a new metric that I consider when buying monitors from now on. I think Acer should have some sort of replacement option for the stand since it is not VESA compatible. I could possibly make some sort of DIY solution that would absorb any vibrations on my desk. Maybe I could get one of those huge mouse pads that go under my keyboard.

Other Thoughts: This is the second monitor I have bought from newegg. The first one was a Hanns-G 27.5 inch 16:10 (1920 by 1200) monitor which is still alive and kicking. I'm not expecting everything to be perfect when I order but newegg has had great customer service so far. I can't wait to get the replacement monitor because my goodness this thing was amazing for the 30 minutes I had it.

This thing saves me some desk space. You wouldn't normally think of a 27 inch monitor saving desk space but it just does. The extra thin outsides added a bonus that I didn't even think of when I got this monitor.

Probably my biggest issue is that it didn't come with a Display Port to Mini Display port cable. I had to spend a lot of time researching these cables and finding a reputable one because my graphics card (r9 280x) only has 2 mini display port connections. Either way I am going to have to upgrade my 280x to something better to take advantage of the free sync ability this monitor has. Which is another thing I didn't know about until I researched it all yesterday. According to most of my sources, the 260x, 285, 290, 290x and the 300 series radeon graphics cards all support free sync but for some reason the 280x doesn't.

So if you are thinking about buying this monitor, make sure that you do your research and that you have a graphics card capable of using this monitor to its full extent.

I will re-review when I get my replacement. Once again thank you new-egg!

**Update: This monitor is absolutely killer with my R9 Fury. My replacement works flawlessly so I'm bumping it up an egg. Why put the latest and greatest tech on a $5 stand? TL:DR Great monitor, shaky stand**

4 out of 5 eggsIt's Acer.

Pros: Just a really nice acer. everything it says it does, it does!
although i really wish there was a way to know if Free-sync was Active at all times.
the edge-less display.
makes the monitor worth a lot to me. i cannot F- ing stand bezels. this has no physical bezels=i love acer.

Cons: Viewing angles. to be frank: this review deserves 2-3 stars because of how terrible and how disgusting those viewing angles are. i sit in a desk chair, but it makes my neck and back hurt because i literally have to stay PERFECTLY still with this monitor or the color shifts dramatically. if it is 2 inches, in any direction off center, the screen brightness and color shift with extreme sharness. i i know this was a LCD screen. but wow: you must have picked the most disgusting one.

this monitor is probably not worth it to a customer like me. i only care about Resolution-freesync and viewing angles. the monitor also never allowed windows to save the 144hz refresh rate over DP 1.2 cord.

would recommend to anyone who does not care about color and brightness shifts if you don't ever move when you game.

Other Thoughts: i would most certainly change that disgusting panel.
plastic... feels great spending 500 dollars for really cheap plastic. and a flimsy stand.

5 out of 5 eggsNearly perfect

Pros: Price (got mine for $300)
144hz
1440p
Freesync

Cons: The stand is just "ok"

Other Thoughts: I had to RMA once for a dead pixel, but other than that I have no complaints. Freesync is truly amazing, but I only wish AMD would make it work on windowed games (not the fault of Acer though).

Running this with an R9 Fury, and it's great. Limited fps to 144 via Crimson as to not exceed the Freesync range, and all is well. No regrets, considering I got it at $300.

1 out of 5 eggsScreen Flicker

Pros: Good resolution and contrast.

Cons: After 3 months of literally just sitting on my desk developed a screen flicker (more prominent on bottom half of screen) happens regardless of input of source. If your interested in having your monitor for more than a few months, I recommend not buying.

2 out of 5 eggsHopefull

Pros: Specs

Cons: The orange trim color is cool but I would rather have black. (less reflective)
10 dead pixels.
Stand was difficult to mount for some reason. Everything looked fine, it just wouldn't snap in. I am not going to force it.
A monitor should go together with less than 20lbs of force.

Other Thoughts: I will change my review upon receiving a non defective monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsAll the difference in the world

Pros: The resulting change in my on-line gaming was incredible. I'm an old retired guy and I love playing the Call Of Duty series. The response rate of this monitor, well, it has to be expereinced to be believed.

Cons: Only issue is not wall mountable.

Other Thoughts: Definitely would recommend this monitor if you like gaming. Just make sure to change the refresh rate settings in game AND through your computer's control panel to 144 HZ.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful display with crisp picture quality

Pros: Edgeless design maximizes screen size and gives it seamless fitting with similar monitors. I bought this monitor at a 40% discount and was not disappointed. Great contrast and the 144 hz refresh is definitely visible when playing games.

Cons: For gaming, be prepared for a performance hit if your GPU is not up to task for the higher resolution.

Other Thoughts: Totally worth the discounted price and if the price drops in the future, I may consider buying a second to replace my old 21" sitting next to it. Also the default color/brightness/contrast settings were perfectly tuned upon opening the box, saving me the effort of having to adjust it all.
