4 out of 5 eggsVery nice product got it for a great price on Newegg.

Pros: I like the curved surface it has a decent image and does well with video and pictures look great...I use displayport on them. It's a bit of a lower profile than what I thought it would be but still awesome since I bought 3 of them.

Cons: There is one that has a spot as if someone pushed too hard while packing it. Not sure if I can ever swap that one for another. ?? I did get the plan where if something happens to it I can swap for another. What say Newegg?? It shows up quite a bit on a screen showing the color grey. The other two monitors are perfect.

Other Thoughts: When the computer brings them out of "Sleep" mode, they seem to make a creaking/shifting sound as if they are heating up. Strange since it's an LED monitor. Not sure why they would ALL make that sound. I guess they do get a bit hot if left on...but as is for all monitors. ??

Manufacturer Response:

Christopher J.:

5 out of 5 eggseggcellent

Pros: Good overall performance. Satisfied with Standard profile. Out of box experience flawless. Game mode useful for some titles. Eye Saver Mode interesting and to TÜV Rheinland standard. Big enough.

I am replaying many games to experience them on this display and aspect ratio. A good monitor can be transformational, and this is a good monitor. I have seen color, for example playing Bioshock Infinite, that down right shocked and amazed me to my soul.

This monitor is of obvious quality in every detail, and has a creamy smoothness to it that you get and feel with the best of gear. It does not feel compromised or binned in anyway. It feels like a real effort by Samsung to make an exceptional display.

Cons: 21:9 aspect ratio may require effort on your part to make the most of, as streaming sites are not delivering to it properly, and some games may require tweaking.

No major weaknesses. There is room for improvement, that is the nature of science and industry, but its not hobbled by serious inherent flaws.

Other Thoughts: IMO VA is best overall, not perfect, but not fundamentally broken. I own IPS, TN, and VA. I find IPS and TN are both flawed. They can do some things better, but they can do some things much much much much worse.

Sometimes this display is ho-hum business as usual. Sometimes its wow I almost can't believe how good it looks. There have been some mild disappointments, but after a week of ownership I have not felt it is flawed by any serious weakness, the first monitor I have owned I can say that about.

This is a really good monitor.

edit:(the future...) I am editing the review while playing black ops 3 I have owned the monitor over a month. I have changed the name from very good to eggcellent and the stars from 4 to 5. To be brief this monitor is dazzling with time and effort its a jewel and I am very happy to own it. Its a lot to say. This is certainly a strong effort to produce a first rate display. I am replaying nearly my entire gaming library to experience them in widescreen and on this display period. It is Wicked.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung makes an extremely High Quality monitor

Pros: Fantastic specs, excellent color and excellent contrasts. I purchased a MSI 970 4gb card to go with the monitor for gaming although lower end 950 will work also. Make sure your video card will handle this monitor.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: If your looking for a top end monitor for around 400 this is the one for you

5 out of 5 eggsReally nice monitor

Pros: Adjustable height and tilt. I work for a school and the students are enthralled. They're choosing PC's over MAC's just for the image experience. $400 off is alright be me any day.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsLove, love, love!

Pros: Looks awesome sitting on your desk.
Sharp, crisp images and text.
Rich, vibrant colors. Easy on the eyes.
Lots of settings to play with.
Great if you don't want two monitors, but need more screen space.
Video games -- WOW!

Cons: The power/menu button is a bit weird from a design standpoint. It takes three "clicks" to turn the monitor off.
There is a tiny blue LED light that stays on when the monitor is off.

... That's about it.

Other Thoughts: Seriously, if you play games on your PC you need this monitor in your life.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: The 2560x1080 display was much better than expected. The stand is constructed better than any other monitor stand I have ever owned (television too).

Cons: Honestly, none.

Other Thoughts: I was worried that I would want a 2560x1440 one instead. After booting up all my favorite games those worries were put to rest. I'm thinking of getting a second one to put side-by-side for racing/flight-sim games.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible monitor

Pros: This monitor is a fantastic upgrade. I used to have two monitors, but now only have this single one. As a developer, I often have two windows open - my IDE and a browser - on this monitor I can easily stack them side-by-side and have plenty more than enough working space for both. My productivity has definitely increased and I find that my eyes and neck are not sore after a long coding session. I cannot say how valuable the curve is, but this monitor is much easier to work with. As an added bonus - though I don't use it - it does have a standard VESA mount.

Cons: It does not take a standard line cord for power input and has a separate brick-style adapter. This makes it a little cumbersome to move, but for most people this shouldn't be an issue. Definitely not suitable for taking to LAN parties.

Other Thoughts: From a gaming perspective, I have mixed feelings on this monitor, namely only due to its native resolution. Not many games natively support its resolution, so the picture can be a little distorted with some games. Overall, though, this is the fault of the game developers, not Samsung, so I can't dock an egg for it.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: Great colors, VESA mountable, curved and a thin bezel.

I also like the fairly tall and adjustable stand. Even for someone over 7' tall like myself, the screen reaches a fairly comfortable height.

The built in speakers aren't going to blow anyone away, but for basic use when not wearing headphones, I found them acceptable.

Cons: I really can't come up with any real cons. I wouldn't mind seeing a USB 3.0 hub or a 120/144hz refresh rate on it, but that's just a wish list, not a fault with the monitor itself

Other Thoughts: I've been gaming on a 5760x1080 setup since 2010 and in all honesty, this single screen captures most of what that setup adds to a game. Most of the time, it's the things just to the outside edges that are most beneficial to see and this single screen grabs all of that.

For anyone with concerns about how their graphics card would run with the extra resolution, I got a GTX 960 from my friends at EVGA to see how a card that directly targets the 1080p market handles a 33% wider screen. For a majority of my testing, the performance loss was actually quite minor. For some of the latest, most demanding titles that couldn't be run maxed out anyway, a little extra sacrifice was needed but dropping from 4x AA to 2x was typically enough to make all the difference. Even if you have to drop a couple settings from high to medium, the screen is worth it.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth upgrading to..

Pros: Wow is my first word to describe this beautiful image quality, easy to use curved monitor. The curve part is fantastic, it follows our natural head turning. This and the beautiful adjustable image with great viewing angles makes for a monitor that’s enjoyable to look at and less fatiguing than for example, the 3 monitor ‘Eyefinity’ arrangement I took down to use and review this.

The ‘one button’ control is easy to use and understanding the menu. We don’t often change monitor settings, but some of the options like ‘Eye Saver Mode’ or the ‘Gaming Mode’ are just two of several options. Dual HDMI allows for more than one feed item to be connected. A second PC/Laptop, an HDTV input, DVD player or any HDMI out product, and with PIP/PBP you can have picture in picture.

This is great for any monitor need and with the height adjustment (it goes up high), tilt adjustment and small foot print base it’s great for home or office. I find the base allows for use of the area below the monitor.

There is ample length with the power cord and the power brick as it’s called is attached to the power cord, reducing heat in the monitor and making this a light weight monitor for the size.

Display port ready, headphone or speaker connection, all easy to get to.

This curved monitor is beautiful and an awesome option for those considering dual monitors, a wide screen and/or Crossfire or SLI applications.

Cons: I have read a few reviews questioning why there are no DVI or VGA connectors.

Depending on your PC or Laptop the video card capabilities, you get in respect to the top resolution of this monitor 2560 X 1440/3440 X 1440. IF your abilities are lower, this will still make this a great choice for you. If you only have DVI/VGA there are inexpensive adapters easily available to convert to the HDMI input. The gain with the beautiful curved screen outweighs the cons.

Other Thoughts: As an EggXpert reviewer this opportunity was a perfect fit for me. I was using a 3 monitor (24’) ‘Eyefinity’ arrangement. What a wide screen it makes and the ability to use separate browsers to do multi tasks. I setup this 29” Curved monitor and it’s in a lot of ways better than my monitors I took down to test and review this. I’m now a fan and hooked.

The curved part of the screen I have found is less fatiguing when used for long periods of time. Gaming, movies/videos etc. We don’t see the world in squared off surroundings and the curve matches our natural left and right looking, keeping the visuals on the screen, let’s say equal distance away. Using two open browsers like I’m doing right now, is easy and the size of each is like two 17” monitors. As a single monitor… wow! Beautiful.. Seriously amazing compared to my other hi end monitors. At first I thought it was so wide as a single monitor that is over kill... Too big, too wide? Wrong, it’s a wonderful new experience and we are considering another for my wife. I don’t think my 3 monitor setup is going back in use. Three of these in “Eyefinity’ or ‘SLI’ whew… talk about enveloped in experience.

The max settings of your PC’s video capabilities will determine to what limit you can obtain on this or any monitor. This will be an improvement you’ll enjoy and yes, it’s not cheap to buy this type of monitor and there are several good choices. Especially on sale this is an amazing choice and if you consider what multi monitors cost and even monitors in general, this is a monitor you’ll keep not return. So, if you can obtain the high end specs of this… let me tell you a movie from my HDTV service looked fantastic. I had to run a cable and see. Not a lot of users have dual PC’ (and use the Picture-by-Picture technology), or the need for a second HDMI port... Still nice to have. Watch a show and browse at the same time, run your server and PC and see on the screen at the same time… nice options.

The ‘One’ button control for the monitors options is easy to use. Light touches and movements or a click inward. Once set, it’s usually set and forget you’re done, enjoy. I tried the gaming options playing WOT, Need for Speed and a couple of others. In WOT the tanks and surrounding was a lot better. I could see cover and out of, along with better detail than before. The gaming experience using this over my three screen, has me loving this more. I’m happily surprised and do recommend this monitor.

The quick change to ‘Eye Saver Mode’ is easy and does make long reading easier on the eyes. There’s a power saver mode, gaming and speed adjustments. Nice sounding speakers and the ability to connect stereo speakers thru the jack on the back, headphone also. If you a multi screening for example in the literature like shown with a laptop will work fine, this does go up high. A clear screen can be seen even on an angle. This will change your visual experience.

Pros: no additional pros

Cons: I came back and looked at this item again today to make sure that my review got posted, and found that the price had dropped from $800 to $400 (in less than a week). While someone currently shopping might say, wow, that's a great deal, someone who purchased it 3 days ago and hasn't even received yet, it will be saying something quite different, which I am sure Newegg's content filter will flag.

When I said this wasn't worth $800, or even $400, I had no idea about the price swing, I simply meant I wouldn't even pay half price for it.

--

I also did some more digging into the power consumption of this monitor and found something interesting. While this monitor only draws a maximum of about 40 Watts, it has a very, very poor power factor of 0.51. The Power Factor is the ratio of actual power consumed divided by the apparent power delivered. Ideal is 1, and as the ratio decreases, it is said to get more poor.

What this means to you is that this monitor pulls twice the amount of power than it actually consumes. Since most homes are billed by how many Watts they use, you will likely not pay more to power this monitor. If, on the other hand, you are considering installing 100 of these at a business where you are charged by VARs (Relative Volt-Amps) used, then you will actually pay twice as much to operate it.. While in standby mode, the monitor consumes 0W, but it consumes 6 VARs, so that will also push up costs for some business users.

Even for a regular home user, you need to be aware that this monitor will pull 80 VA from your UPS, if you have one, even though it only uses 40 Watts, which means you might need to purchase a larger, more expensive UPS to cover it.

Other Thoughts: Subtracting another star for wild price swings, and it's extremely poor power factor.
