TN Panel a Real Minus
- Pros: The screen is bright, the whites are very pure. 5ms response time is not technically the best, but you'll never notice--I never see ghosting or smearing of any kind. No noise comes from the unit (some 24 inchers can be a tad noisy, so I've read). Height, swivel, and tilt adjustments, while you may not think you need them, are very welcome--I'll never buy a monitor without height adjustment again. Web Cam is decent, as is the mic. Wire harness in back is very simple to use, and greatly reduces clutter. Accepts HDCP. Build quality is solid, as the monitor never rocks or sways, even though my table is not very sturdy. Text is sharp, colors are dead accurate, and overall, the screen is quite pleasing too look at. A definite step up in fidelity from say, a bundled Dell LCD monitor. Properly setup (calibrating monitor for 2.2 gamma, turning brightness down, setting Color Adjust to sRGB), fatigue is non-existent.
- Cons: I'm not happy with two BIG things: 1: The backlight is terrible. Not only is the darkest black not very black (you can tell the monitor is on by its glowing screen, even with a completely black background), but it's uneven (top and bottom). And 2: The TN panel. I know such tech terms may seem verbose, but a TN panel while cheep, is the lowest quality you can buy. IPS and PVA panels are vastly superior for a) almost zero backlight bleed, and b) far greater viewing angle. Viewing angle cannot be stressed enough for one simple reason: at 22", you're almost never in the right 'spot' to view the entire screen without some areas appearing washed out. The darker the image, the worse the effect. For example, the Vista Recycle Bin at the top of my screen--because I'm slouched a tad bit--is washed out on the right-hand side. If I sit up, it get's clear again. Some darker games (Penumbra:Black Plague) are washed out to the point of annoyance.
- Other Thoughts: I know I know, TN panels are far cheaper than IPS or PVA--but that's the only thing saving this monitor, or any TN I'd venture, from getting a 'Poor' rating. If I could make one suggestion to you, dear reader, I'd seriously consider avoiding TN panels and spending a bit more on IPS or PVA. Right now I'm looking at a 7 year old Apple Cinema Display (IPS Panel) and it's stunning how, with the sole exception of size, the Cinema Display is--ironically--years ahead of my brand new VX255. This doesn't mean you'd feel the same way I do--perhaps you wouldn't be bothered by the viewing angles and backlight glow as I am. But I upgrade monitors every 4 years at most, and I want to be totally happy when staring at something for that long. I took the low price and bit---I wish I wouldn't have. For 100-200 more I could have gotten a IPS and been much happier.
Amazing. Can't believe how high end it is
- Pros: This monitor is INCREDIBLE. Built it Webcam works great with vista No problems at all! Height adjustment is great, feels solid all around, couldn't recomend this highly enough. after 3 Viewonic monitors, each one bigger than the last, I have NEVER been disspointed.
Incredibly Beautiful to just stare at. Goes amazingly well with Deathadder/tarantula combo looks like they were made for each other they lights match up so well.

- Cons: MUCH cheaper elsewhere used. not more than a budget 22inch in fact I got it for 2 benji's flat. Sorry Newegg, I'm loyal but not THAT loyal.
Attracts Dust like whoa. I have a dust cloth on a hook under my desk now. Have to wipe it every 2 hours or so, combined with my Razer tarantula it looks like my room is full of things I have never touched but I use all of it every day!
- Other Thoughts: when I was having issues with Windows XP recognizing the web cam, which was XP's fault, Viewsonic support staff worked with me and was incredibly helpful, above and beyond the call of duty, thank you very much for making my life much easier You've got a new lifelong customer.

Beautiful thing!
- Pros: Great looks, Sharp image, great for gaming!
The camera isn't that bad for a built in camera and is better then my old Logitech external camera.
- Cons: Menu is a little hard to deal with at first and to get it at 85 Hertz you have to do it manually through your video cards control panel. Fingerprint magnet but that's because of the glossy black finish
- Other Thoughts: Got this thing running on 85 hertz with my Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX and it's gorgeous for gaming. I went from a 17 Inch LCD to a 22 Inch and if I look at my old one, it feels like it's half the size of my new one, Literally.
Nice monitor, but dirty
- Pros: Very sleek and clean-looking. Easy switching between VGA and DVI inputs. Solid construction. Very good image quality. No ghosting whatsoever. Well-placed audio and video ports. Cable management clamps in the back keep wires in check, to some extent.
- Cons: Horrible microphone, speakers and camera. Do NOT get this monitor for those. Somewhat poor viewing angle. Auto-adjusting to non-native resolutions is poorly handled, leaving the image off-centered or badly cropped. Does not do portrait mode. Lacks a USB hub, which could have easily been integrated since the camera is USB-powered. Screen would have looked much better as glossy rather than matte finished.
- Other Thoughts: While the glossy black finish looks amazing, it collects dust and fingerprints like nothing else. If you're a neat freak, then you probably won't mind it.
Better than VG2230wm
- Pros: Very clear, bright, sharp, slick. I have multiple VG2230wm LCDs that I previously purchased next to this in my setup(4 monitors), and this clearly shows as the superior picture.
- Cons: No trade-in program for VG2230WM's so I can have the same model for all 4 of my LCD's!!! :-)
- Other Thoughts: I haven't tried the webcam yet. Everyone says the speakers are horrible, but who uses monitor speakers anyways...
