5 out of 5 eggsSweet 17

Pros: Crisp, vivid display, no distortion, no dead pixels, fits the space I have, widescreen makes it seem larger than 17". No-hassle software install. Moderate price and free shipping made the choice between local PC seller and mailorder from Egg really easy!

Cons: could have gotten a 20" for just a few $$ more, but this one will do all I need and didn't have room anyway.

Other Thoughts: Few and far between.

2 out of 5 eggsWidescreen is the suck

Pros: Well, if you absolutely insist on widescreen against all common sense, and you don't want to blow 3 grand on a four-foot-wide plasma TV or something, then this monitor is the one to get. It operates at a 1.77:1 aspect ratio, which is the only REAL widescreen aspect ratio, whereas 99% of other so-called "widescreen" monitors only operate at 1.6:1, thus horizontally squooshing everything when you want to watch anamorphic widescreen DVDs.

Cons: Umm... it's still widescreen. Widescreen is useless for: (a) any program that is not designed to run in a window; (b) DVDs that are encoded at fullscreen (you'll get black bars at the sides); (c) DVDs that are encoded in non-anamorphic widescreen (you'll get black bars all around); and (d) DVDs of movies that were filmed at 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 aspect ratios (you'll get black bars at top and bottom).

Other Thoughts: It's the only good monitor for watching anamorphic 16:9 DVDs, but that is the only thing that it's good for.

4 out of 5 eggsA bit small

Pros: Nice and crisp. Used on my daughters computer

Cons: I think it distorts the image. It may be me, but it seems overly short and excessively long. That being said if I had to do it again, I'd rather have seen it in person b4 ordering it at newegg.
