5 out of 5 eggsBright and crisp image

Pros: This puts out an incredibly bright image. The picture is incredible!

Ease of use with remote.

Network-ability.

Cons: It is only black. White option would have been nice.

Other Thoughts: It is being used as a permanent mount, video source for a church audio/video install.

Utilizing HDMI connectivity, video playback is very impressive. Set it up to throw on a 150" screen. Theater quality video, even with ambient light.

Have not used it for 3D.

3 out of 5 eggs3D Buyer Beware!

Pros: 5000 lumens

auto-keystone correction

Cons: Limited 3D support

120 Hz is only at 1024x768

Other Thoughts: My unit is defective, so some of the issues may be resolved when I receive my replacement, but here are a few observations.

This is a bright projector (2D). It has a clean image in 2D. I have plugged both a 3D blu-ray player (Samsung 2011 model)/UVerse cable box and a Dell XPS laptop with an HDMI 1.4 port. I cannot get the unit to display 3D. The glasses sync, but no 3D.

Uverse does a top/bottom format. The projector does not have the option to switch to top bottom (like most 3D displays). YOU NEED A $300 unit to convert to something the projector can handle.

Blu-ray unit sends a signal that is recognized by the projector, but image is static, multi-colored snow (no-sync).

The laptop wants to see a 3D vision kit plugged into it. You shouldn't need one. I tell Arcsoft Totalmedia 5 that I have a 3D DLP ready unit and it sends an image, but the glasses don't sync up correctly.

If you are looking for a bright 2D DLP, buy it. If you want 3D, be prepared to spend anoth

1 out of 5 eggslight shuts off after 30 sec

Pros: so far there are none

Cons: Upon first opening, the light on the unit would shut off after 30 sec. I called tech support at Viewsonic and they said send it back.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid choice!

Pros: EXTREMELY BRIGHT. This was the main focus behind this purchase - a projector that could be used in a brightly lit room. The 8500 delivers. Color accuracy is also quite good for such a bright unit. Easy to set up, reasonable size, and light enough to carry without breaking your back.

Cons: So far none!

Other Thoughts: It's hard to find thorough reviews of business-type projectors. Everyone reviews home theater projectors, but 1600 lumens is not enough for use in business. I agonized over options from NEC, Mitsubishi, Infocus, and a couple others, but decided on ViewSonic. The others may be good as well, but I'm totally satisfied with this choice!
