What is a LED monitor?

The term "LED monitor" generally refers to a monitor with a LCD panel and a LED backlight. A typical LCD monitor uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as a light source to illuminate the LCD panel. In an LED backlit monitor, white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are used as the light source.LED backlights provide the following benefits:

  • About 50% less power consumption compared to traditional CCFL monitor
  • 20,000,000:1 MEGA Contrast Ratio
  • Mercury-free backlight
  • Low EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference)
  • Slimmer design
  • Weight reduction

Eco-mode for up to 40% energy savings

ViewSonic’s proprietary Eco-mode function comes standard with the VG2732m-LED. When you don’t need all of the powerful features VG2732m-LED has to offer, you have the option to reduce the monitor’s brightness, save energy, save the planet and prolong the lamp life. You can select one of the “Optimize” or “Conserve” options and save up to 40% energy. Especially under low ambient light conditions, adjusting the brightness will improve visibility by reducing eye fatigue. Reducing brightness will also prolong the monitor’s lamp life, improving your return on investment.

Efficiency and comfort

Ergonomics is defined as profession of designing tools and work environments to best accommodate human performance and behavior. The VG2723m-LED is one of the great examples of an ergonomically designed tool. Based on your height, chair and desk conditions, you can adjust it up and down for 5.3 inches, swivel it 356°, or tilt it 20° degrees, whatever makes you more comfortable.

Also, when designing a portrait mode image or a document (such as a flyer or a magazine page), you can rotate the monitor 90° and utilize your 27" screen size at its full extent. You can also adjust your graphics card settings so that all your graphics are rotated 90° as well.

Full HD Resolution

VG2732m-LED features a 27" widescreen with 1920x1080 resolution that is capable of displaying a native Full HD 1080p image. In today’s world, Full HD capable devices are getting more and more common which in return increases the demand for 1080p content. In order for graphic designers and movie producers to work more efficiently on 1080p content, a display that natively supports this resolution becomes essential.

ViewSonic VG2732m-LED’s 27" panel offers another new trend in the LCD panel market - 16:9 aspect ratio. This new aspect ratio not only natively supports Full HD 1080p content but also in a “non-distorted” way. For example, a 1920x1200 resolution monitor will also support Full HD 1080p but it will either stretch it to fit into a full screen or show blank side bars to avoid distortion. With a 16:9 aspect ratio panel, you will get the most out of your HD content since HD contents are natively designed in this format.

VESA mount and multi-monitor setup

The VG2732m-LED provides maximum flexibility, whether you’re planning to install on a custom stand for multi monitor setups or wall mount it, we’ve included a 100 x 100 mm VESA mount holes in the back. You can detach the base easily by unscrewing four screws and then mount the display on its new stand or wall mount.

High performance DisplayPort connectivity

The VG2732m-LED is equipped with DisplayPort digital interface, which transmits both audio and video signals through a single connection to deliver ultimate versatility and performance. DisplayPort supports all kinds of multimedia devices for convenience in video production, graphic design and more.

Peace of mind with one of the best pixel performance guarantee and 3-year limited warranty

One of the aspects that make ViewSonic a market leader in displays is its commitment to quality. LCD panels are produced in factories and as everything else, they may have flaws too. One of the flaws of an LCD panel is a dead pixel, bright or a dark one. Some panels will have no dead pixels while some will have one or two or more. When LCD display manufacturers build their monitors, they will have the option to use different grade panels with different tolerance levels for the number of dead pixels. ViewSonic is committed to use the highest grade panels and offer one of the best pixel performance policy in the market. We also back our displays with a 3-year limited warranty for your peace of mind.

Diverse connectivity

The VG2732m-LED features DisplayPort, DVI-D digital, and a VGA analog input. You can connect multiple sources at the same time and then toggle between them by selecting the input source through the On-Screen-Display (OSD). You can also connect one of your computer’s USB ports to the monitor’s USB uplink input which then multiplies the USB ports to four. This way, you can connect up to four USB devices to your monitor and save yourself from the hassle of reaching out to your computer’s USB ports.

Save cash and save the planet

With its mercury-free backlight and low energy consumption, the ENERGY STAR® certified VG2732m-LED saves your electricity bill. The savings of LED can add up to thousands of dollars saved for large install bases, such as big corporate buildings or schools. The savings can be as dramatic as $20,000 in five years!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: I upgraded from a 22" Chime monitor, so this one seemed much bigger at the time, now I'm used to the size. I am a photographer and the colors on here is what I see on photos, so that's a plus. It's also really cool because it goes up down, left, right, and rotates (good for editing photos of people standing. I also do work in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and this monitor works really well with the colors I use for those programs.

Cons: The only con I have and the reason for not giving 5 eggs is the fact that there is a light that goes around the frame of the monitor, as if the lighting were on the edges. It's hard to explain, but it's only noticeable when watching a movie and dark scenes. I'm wondering if I'm the only one since I didn't see anyone else complaining of that.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had the money for two more, for gaming purposes. Yes, I game in my free time. :D

5 out of 5 eggsHUGE w/ Lots of Features

Pros: Large Monitor. Great for reading. :)
Great for surfing the web. Great for editing pictures.
Umm, Great for Gaming.
Great for having 4 usb ports within 18 inches away.
Support DisplayPort, DVI, RGB. I use the DisplayPort :)
Convenient Built-in Speakers.
Tilts/Swivel. Portrait Anyone?

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Actually, this monitor is connected to a pc that uses a 47" TV as an extended monitor. It is part of my entertainment system. I like to have all the features of my TV on my Viewsonic Monitor.

Built-in Speakers are OK. Not stereo quality, but that doesn't matter to me.

1 out of 5 eggsAbsolute junk

Pros: Big, rotates

Cons: Everything else. Displayport connection flickers in & out. Tried multiple cables. 1st unit RMAed due to stuck pixels. 2nd unit worse than first but Newegg says I am out of the window to RMA the second unit.

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor to replace an older viewsonic monitor that lasted forever. Their quality now is garbage. Never again will I buy a Viewsonic monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for photogs

Pros: Big! Very even backlight distribution. Pretty decent viewing angle. Cool stand, though I wonder how many years it will last and still hold the weight of the monitor. Can rotate vertically. USB hub built in (do people actually use that?)

Cons: No HDMI input, but a DVI to HDMI adapter worked just fine. If you're right in front it's perfect, but as you move left or right you'll get a yellow tint to the edges of the screen. Vertical angle doesn't seem quite as susceptible to that.

Other Thoughts: I got this monitor to connect to my laptop for photo editing. Out of the box it's not bad (albeit too bright) but after calibrating the colors properly with a gadget it's awesome! Just be sure to tone down the brightness a good bit before doing color calibration or you'll think your prints will be brighter than they are.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: This is a great monitor. The biggest advantage is the stand. I was tired of going through lower cost monitors that could only swivel or tilt. I know most are VESA compliant and you can buy a new stand but when considering the cost of the monitor plus stand it often is more than this one.

Viewsonics G series monitors are fantastic. The picture on this one is much more clear than all of my other monitors. Graphics are clear, color is great, the adjustments are very smooth, and no bright leds when its in standby.

Cons: Speakers are horrible. But this is a monitor not a TV.

Other Thoughts: First one received had a line of red pixels about 3 inches long but the cardboard box had some scrapes from shipping. Newegg's RMA process was very smooth and only took about 10 days total.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: BIG. Great stand system changes height, tilts, etc. Wonderful, very even color! White is WHITE. It makes my Acer monitor look horribly blue by comparison. Black is BLACK.

Cons: Comes too bright and too saturated out of the box if you're into exact color matching. Vertical viewing angle is kind of finnicky with colors going too dark if you get too low, and too light if you get too high, within just a few inches difference of view position. Onscreen menus suck. Neither problem is really that noticeable. Does not have HDMI...? Works with my DVI-HDMI adapter though.

Other Thoughts: If you're serious about color, you'll need to run a color correction on it, but afterwards it produces truer colors than any monitor I've owned. Matches perfectly to my photographic prints by a professional lab.

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad for a non-IPS panel

Pros: The monitor seems to be of good overall quality. I am used to 24" IPS (.27mm) monitors, I code 10 hours a day and so far this device impresses me. My IPS panels are better (sharper, off-axis) but then again cost as much or more, at 24". This device has a .31mm pixel pitch. I would guess is about the limit for up-close desktop work.

I would have loved to try the new PLS 27" at 2560x1440 but the .23mm pitch is just too tough (with Windows font defaults) until Windows scaling is truly figured out (maybe in Windows 8 or 9). I felt that for text work, I would end up returning it, or having to have it 10" from my face (a tough call, I hope I got it right).

This unit sits on my sofa end table for times when I want to do a little (text) work when in

For the stock trading reviewer that said the "2ms" response time shows "charts" loading faster. This is one of the funniest things I have heard in a while. I will have to remember this one. It tops the vivid 0ms gamer imaginat

Cons: Not a big con, but worth mentioning.

As stated by another reviewer, the controls (buttons facing down) are simply backwards - as counter-intuitive as they come.

There is also a blue LED facing down, I have no idea why it is there - to light up your finger tips as they fumble between the goofy buttons? It will take 100 button presses to finally get a simple setting figured out. This does not detract from the viewing quality of this monitor, but it is really silly.

Other Thoughts: The default out of the box brightness will blind you - just a gimmick to say, "look what we can do". At 50% in a this dark room, it bothers me.

I can't yet comment on the colors, I am not a graphics user, mainly text.

I use this as a 2nd monitor extending my HTPC Win7 desktop from my 55" VT30 - which at 10' is really stretching it for non-media Windows use. This 27" 1920x1080 monitor now sits on my end-table and is a nice option.

BTW, the VT30 55".... words cannot describe it, even the Windows desktop looks pretty good, but I mainly use it for TV and movies.

Cheap monitors have come a long way. I have not owned one from this vendor in 20+ years, but I can see why they are still around.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: This new ViewSonic monitor replaced my 24" LG W2452T LCD monitor purchased about 4 years ago. Side by side comparison show both have excellent color rendition.

Even with the larger screen, colors are bright and the picture is sharp. No dead pixels showing and I would recommend this monitor to anyone.

It has an excellent stand and if you need to continually adjust due to multiple users, this one's for you.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Great monitor for a reasonable price. NewEgg shipped one day and I had it the next (local to Southern California).

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Height adjusts so smoothly and with such little effort it seems hydraulic -- that's just plain good design. Bought three for stock trading desk. Quick response time (3ms) must work -- see tremendous difference in loading speed of my stock charts. Monitors are sturdy and well-built. No dead pixels.
Using out-of-the-box settings. Exceeds expectations. Recommend.

Cons: None
