Pros: Lifetime lamp design, next generation video quality (as to DLP contrast ratio; WQHD or 4k or 8k are industrial only resolution levels still); ViewSonic 3 year warranty includes lamp, unlike 1 year or less limit on other projectors (another reviewer posted false information - lamp life on this model is the same spec as found in many panel TV's; IOW, it never gets replaced for projector life absent defects, unlike quartz lamps). This is a zero expected maintenance projector, other than cleaning the lens or cooling path.

Cons: Not overly bright - better to use flat panel unless portability is needed; expensive (for now?). Spec's don't list international compatibility (eg, like Acer K750, their slightly less expensive but lower video quality LED projector). Not as compact or focused on wireless presentations as some Epson's (but those are still 720p only models) (all models NewEgg sells - hopefully then allowable comparisons here). Since portability and ease of setup in different rooms are the main reasons to use a projector for users not needing very high brightness for very large displays, that offsets how this ViewSonic has leading edge video quality.

Other Thoughts: I'm an engineer with pro video experience, thinking about upgrading an older projector, and have not used this model. I suggest using the "compare" function on the linked ViewSonic site to see side by side full spec's of their current models. They've obsoleted their own Pro8x00 models.

ViewSonic appears to have engineered in this model a next step DLP capable of enhanced 30 bit video gray scale, slightly better than their PJD7820HD (3000 lumen, 3D timings capable, entry level cost tier for full HD), or Pro8520HD (5000 lumen, 2500 hour lamp life, same price tier). For anyone projecting serious video or quality photographic slides, those models spec contrast ranges missing on most older projectors. High contrast Powerpoint or similar images may benefit from 1080p resolution, but don't need that aspect of image quality.

Other than brightness, or resolutions only found in industrial projectors better than those found in most commercial theaters yet (and costing more than most cars), I'm not aware of any retail portable video projector now available with video spec's better than this model.

Pros: Good picture. Worked great for everything I needed while it was still working.

Cons: Not even 2 weeks of owning it and it died. Was using it and there was a pop and it shut off and won't turn back on. For the price I would expect something like this to last longer than a couple weeks huge disappointment.

Other Thoughts: I don't know much about projectors but it seemed to be pretty good till it died on me. I'm hoping to get a refund and not an exchange so I can shop around and hopefully get something better than this overpriced piece of junk.

Pros: Laser/LED projection is definitely the way to go, we've had a Casio one at our company for a couple years now. This is what all projectors should be switching to. Instant on, instant off, much cooler, great color and clarity.

Cons: Expensive. High entry cost, but pays for itself.

Other Thoughts: The guy below who was talking about $180 replacement laser being insanely high after 2 years of continuous use? What a moron. A) You can't run a projector bulb for 1/4 of that time, and B) the cost for the bulbs are about the same if not more expensive anyway.

Great decision.

Pros: yes, it's expensive to have it replaced, but how many people use it continuously for 2 years!? most projectors are used for presentations or home theater. 2 star review will make this look bad, which it probably is not.

Cons: parts and labor for maintenance might be expensive, but that's expected.

Pros: no need to change light bulb

Cons: after a total of about 2.25 years of contiual use the laser could die, and would have to be replaced for 180$ plus the cost of the laser and shipping. The warranty will only replace the laser up until 1 year of ownership. cost benefit of laser over bulbs not quite worth it!
