1 out of 5 eggsNightmare

Pros: Price

Cons: From reading the reviews I knew that this monitor was not great for Windows 8 but I run Win7 at my job and even if we go to Win 8 or 9 I will not need the side swipe.
So I got 18 of them for my job and everything was great for the first month or two and then the nightmare started, One by one the monitor's HDMI input would start failing and the picture would turn pink, at this point all 18 have failed and were returned for repair at least once and some have been returned more then once as they replaced the part with the same defective HDMI input board and some were someone else monitor we got back. At first they wanted us to pay for shipping them back to them but after fighting with Viewsonic they been paying for the returns. I just got one monitor back from Viewsonic and out of the box the HDMI input gives us a green color picture.
As far as we can tell it's only the HDMI input that has this problem, DVI works fine but in many cases we can not use the DVI input and have to use HDMI.
If you plan to use HDMI on this monitor do NOT buy, spend the extra cash and get something else.

2 out of 5 eggsNot So Hot

Pros: screen looks good

Cons: touch feature is abysmal
sound is so-so

Other Thoughts: ViewSonic TD2420 Black 23.6" Optical Multi-Touch Monitor 200 cd/m2 1000:1 Built-in Speakers

The monitor is fine for viewing. The touch experience leaves much to be desired. I read one review that told how to recalibrate the touch. I found how to do it and saw no change in performance. It is dreadful from side touches. Touch seems to work fin in the center of the spring but at the edges swiping just is abysmal.

The speakers have been problamatic as well. The SRS premium sound if evoked, silences all the sound. Frankly I was going to return it due to it's inability to work well with Windows 8.1 but the $50 New Egg restocking fee dissuaded me. By the time I paid for the shipping to me, the restocking fee and the shipping back to them, I would have wasted $75.00. So I can only hope the warranty works better than the features. As a plain old monitor with no touch and no sound, it works fine but the "extended" features aren't so hot!

4 out of 5 eggsTouchscreen FTW

Pros: Great monitor for use with windows 7 or 8

Cons: Swipe gestures. I have tried re calibrating several times to get my swipe gestures to work and have failed. I know there must be a way to do it I just haven't put the time in to figure it out...

Other Thoughts: ViewSonic should do a write up on how to get swipe gestures for windows 8 working so we can appreciate it all the more.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Good for Windows 8

Pros: Attractive price for a touchscreen monitor in this size

Cons: Terrible for Windows 8 use: There is an extended bezel all the way around the screen, so you can't swipe in from the top, bottom or sides, which is one of the most important touch features of Windows 8.

4 out of 5 eggsBest Value in Touchscreen Market

Pros: 1) Price
2) Integrated speakers
3) Included stylus with storage slot

Cons: Bezel - Sits off of the screen what appears to be 1/4" making it hard to perform some Windows 8 Edge swipes out of the box. However I have found that windows 8 has a calibration setting for touchscreens. Go to search - type in calibration - select settings and you'll find a calibration option for touch screens. Once calibration starts, tap slightly inside (towards middle of monitor by maybe 2-4mm) of the 8 cross-hairs. This will "Grow" the area of the edge touch sensitivity allowing you perform the left, top and right charm bar swipes. After one calibration attempt I'm able to swipe consistently. Out of the box, it took just the right touch.

Other Thoughts: I've noticed a couple of times that touchscreen doesn't always come on with my PC, but I'm wondering if that is my USB detecting the touchscreen as unplugging the USB resolved the issue.
