5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Great projector for the price
720p resolution
Bright enough (for a projector)
Decent bulb life -- I got 4300 hours over 3 years. New bulbs are cheap.
Throw ratio was perfect for my needs -- I had some trouble finding one with this ratio. GIves a screen slightly over 100" at 12'

Cons: Not 1080p
Can't watch in full sunlight
Bulb life a bit below expectation

Other Thoughts: I bought this as my living room TV in a small apartment. It's freakin AWESOME. You do have to pull the curtains if you want to watch in the middle of the day, but that's to be expected with a projector. At night it's great; early morning it's dim but watchable -- YMMV depending on which directions your windows face. I don't have a proper screen either (just a white wall) so that could help as well. It's not 1080p but it looks great at 720, and it was cheaper and is far easier to deal with than a large TV (I paid $550). In my apartment it's projecting a distance of about 12 feet and the screen is a bit over a hundred inches at the largest setting.

So I've owned this for three and a half years now, and had to do my first bulb replacement a couple months back. Which was fine -- I watch a few hours per day and occasionally fall asleep with it running so three years was more than I expected. I bought an off-brand replacement for $35 which is working just fine. But here's the biggest problem I have with the projector: apparently they expect the bulb to last around 5000 hours. Mine burned out after 4300 hours (in "eco mode"). Which is fine, but I didn't realize I needed to reset the usage counter, so now 600 hours after replacing the bulb it's popping up a warning every time I boot it up saying the bulb needs replaced soon. So either I deal with that warning every time, or I reset the bulb life counter now and lose track of how long I've had the new bulb in. After three and a half years, THAT is my biggest complaint. This thing is awesome.

Oh, and it does have a USB port, but I've never gotten it to do anything so I don't know what that's for. If you want to control it from your PC (particularly if that's a Linux PC), I suggest using IR.

Other Thoughts: At first I had projector on my coffee table and the image was terrible but I found this was due to it automatically keystoning to make image appear "straight". After mounting on my ceiling the Image was great, I had made a custom screen myself from Carl's place. The screen is basically a giant white art canvas. This projector is great entry level and from what I heard epson has excellent warranty and customer service. Only downside is that it's not 1080p.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent after a week

Pros: Excellent little projector. Great price; great picture. I've had it just over a week now and am using it in my apartment. Projecting onto a plain white wall, with the projector sitting on a table right beside my couch. Distance from projector to the wall is around nine feet; the image projected is approximately 4.5' x 7'. Image is clear even during the day with windows open and lights on, though I would suggest a dim room if you want a better experience.

Also very pleased at the throw ratio -- I had a hard time finding one that would work in my apartment. Most wouldn't project a screen large enough; short throw projectors would project a screen too large. This one is absolutely perfect -- great middle ground.

Cons: As mentioned, I have the projector sitting right beside me; on Eco mode the fan noise is audible but not at all problematic. With Eco mode off though the fan gets pretty loud; but being in an apartment I can't put the audio too loud so there's not much to drown it out. Image is slightly dimmer on Eco mode but hardly noticable.

Setting the image 'color mode' to dynamic creates very distracting vibrations in the projector; these seem to be related to adjusting color mode settings as it happens briefly if you manually change this setting as well. I highly doubt this would be an issue if the projector was propely mounted, and I personally think the dynamic color mode oversaturates the color a bit anyway.

Overall I wouldn't let either of these issues deter you from purchasing this. This was one of the cheapest HD projectors I could find, so if you're looking in this price range you'll probably be more than satisfied -- I know I certainly am.

Other Thoughts: I did get an extra discount on this by purchasing during Newegg's 'Black November' sale; the price I paid was around $550. But if you're in the market for a low cost HD projector and this model has the right throw ratio, buy it.
