3 out of 5 eggsMixed Feelings

Pros: Great to have a second monitor when traveling.

Cons: Does not work with new Lenovo L540 Laptop. Limited resolution. Unadjustable resolution.

Other Thoughts: I am a traveling consultant so having a second monitor with me at all times was a huge plus. I am on my second monitor after TSA broke the first one. Though the resolution is less than I would like, it is great to have a second monitor. I replaced my old Dell Laptop with a Lenovo L540 and it will not recognize the USB monitor. When I plug in the USB monitor the system checks the new USB device then tries to connect then keeps flashing back and forth as it tries to connect then reverts back. I called support and the response I got was that the problem was with USB 3.0 ports and I should buy the newer E1659FWU monitor. Not a lot of help.

2 out of 5 eggsNOT meant for travel

Pros: Decent monitor at a great price. Works as advertised until ...

Cons: This monitor is FRAGILE. I put it in the same bag I carry my laptop in (i.e. padded travel bag) and when I took it out the colors were all off and washed out. I grabbed opposite corners and gave it a small twist and it suddenly worked perfectly again. This tells me the construction is cheap and flimsy is just a little pressure on the frame makes the colors change dramatically.

Other Thoughts: If you're going to put this on a desk its a great deal and works as advertised. I bought this as a second monitor for when I travel and for that it was utterly useless since any pressure at all on the frame causes the colors to change and wash out. If you don't want it for travel its probably a great second monitor for you.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Price, size, portability are all upthere

Cons: Not an immediate plug and play, but Win 8.1 did find a driver.
Resolution just average.
Confusing install horserace between Win 8.1 pnp process and the supplied install instructions.
It matters WHICH usb port you use.

Other Thoughts: Really makes road trips with the laptop more productive.

5 out of 5 eggsNo longer a luxury

Pros: When I travel for work, I still have to do work...this monitor makes it possible. When you are used a mulitmonitor setup, going back to one on the laptop is hard. Lightweight, reliable, easy to setup. It is always in my bag.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGood portable 2nd monitor for a laptop

Pros: This is a great 2nd monitor. The size is nice for throwing in a laptop bag. The fact that it can be used portrait or landscape is a nice bonus.

Cons: The brightness is not adjustable -- not really a big deal, but I thought that I would mention it. The stand does not allow much adjustment of the viewing angle -- once again, not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: Some people have bashed this thing for the mini-USB port breaking. I have used this monitor rather heavily for the past four months. I have babied this thing -- kept it in a case, been careful not to pull on the cord, etc. It is still going strong! I simply understand that the jack may be a weak spot, so I am treating it accordingly. No problems so far.

Another thing to keep in mind is that this is a PRODUCTIVITY monitor. Not movies, and not gaming. This uses a standard DisplayLink chip. The fact that you can get video so good over USB is amazing. Simply stated, USB 2.0 does not really have the bandwidth to support high-quality video and gamine. That is not the fault of DisplayLink, or this monitor. That is the fault of USB 2.0. Great monitor if you keep your expectation real.

One more hint: there is a great piece of software called "DisplayFusion" that puts the menu bar at the bottom of all of your screens, along with fancier stuff. Using that, along with the keyboard shortcuts built into Windows 7 and above -- "Win" key combined with the cursor (arrow) buttons -- makes for a great combination.

5 out of 5 eggsamazing for the price

Pros: Got for my wife who uses laptop for work more than multi-screen desktop. Works awesome for adding a screen for her work. Movies look great on it, too. Still can't believe this monitor works so well for so cheap via a USB port. Like Star Trek, only real. Can't beat it for the price.

Cons: Cons? 70 bones and free shipping? You got to be kidding!

Other Thoughts: I'll second what another reviewer said, add this to your order for easy connecting, you'll be glad you did: StarTech USB2HABM3RA 3 ft. Mini USB Cable - A to Right Angle Mini B M-M

5 out of 5 eggsGreatest monitor purchase I ever made

Pros: I can't rave about this one enough. As a multi-monitor addict, this is the perfect addition to my laptop and makes for an easy 5th monitor for my desktop too. It's lightweight, installs relatively easily, and after that, you have a second (or 5th) screen that can be placed just about anywhere with a long enough USB cable. It looks great, works perfectly, and is incredibly convenient thanks to only being tethered by a USB and no power cable or need for an outlet at all. I leave it plugged in as a large digital slideshow even when my laptop is closed, and Sundays it is the perfect fantasy football StatTracker screen. If you have multiple computers like I do, you can hot swap it from one to another in seconds. It's so light you can even use it as a non-touch screen tablet if you're watching a video in bed.

Cons: The ONLY catch to this monitor seems to be a complete incompatibility with GeForce7600 video cards... which my old PC has. Random but what can you do? That card is so old I'd say it's worth replacing with a more modern $15 one.

The auto-pivot function is a little weak, and there's no easy way to control landscape vs. portrait mode besides shaking it around until it flips the way you want.

Other Thoughts: If you ever thought another monitor would be useful but a full sized one isn't convenient for whatever reason, this is your solution. Worth every penny.

4 out of 5 eggsWhere's the case?

Pros: Looks good.

Cons: Where's the case? How do I get one? -1 egg for it not being included as others described. Risky just putting it in my laptop bag without some kind of cover. The foam thing won't last long.

Other Thoughts: I have an AOC 21.5" monitor I got awhile back as a second desktop monitor, and their quality is good for the price.
