5 out of 5 eggsAmazing 4K Monitor by AOC

Pros: Impressive picture clarity. No dead pixel on this monitor I got. I hope it does not show up. One of the best stand ever designed even far better than my previous AOC HD monitor. I like the swivel design.

I was looking at the Samsung 4K monitor as well but the stand were just horrible. I hope Samsung improves their stand design.

Cons: So far so good perfect for gaming and watching movies.

2 out of 5 eggsBad quality

Pros: Good price for a 4k monitor of its size. Has plenty of inputs. Built in usb3.0 hub and a quality stand.

Cons: There are a lot of things wrong with this monitor.

1. It has a stuck pixel in the center of the screen. Very noticeable.

2. The screen randomly makes this loud pop noise which im assuming comes from the speakers. Scares the crud out of me and it cant be good for the monitor.

3. The screen has a reoccuring flicker. The upper left part of the screen will sometimes flicker in and out of the correnct image. Displaying a double or even triple image of that portion of the screen

Other Thoughts: Considering an RMA. Just might not be worth it to go without a monitor for 2+ weeks waiting on the manufactuer. Spend the extra money and avoid this monitor

4 out of 5 eggsGood In the Future

Pros: This monitor looks great. It is huge. The price is right!

Cons: I'm using my old monitor! I'm a web developer and the majority of the programs I work in show up blurry/aliased super weird on Windows 10! If you could leave the font sizes set at 100%, it looks wonderful but tiny. I can't comfortably code on that all day, and the alternative is to set it at 150% and get worse eyestrain with the blurry fonts issue.

Other Thoughts: I am currently using this monitor to watch TV. Looks good, and if the tech catches up I may try it again as a monitor.

Good for fun - not so much for a professional solution to screen real estate.

1 out of 5 eggsGamers BEWARE *updated input lag*

Pros: Beautiful build quality.
The adjustable stand is one that all monitor manufacturer's should be judged by.
Matte screen so minimally reflective.
Comes with every cable imaginable for connections.
USB 3.0 hub on monitor and fast charging port for portable devices.
Easy to assemble and setup.
At least looking at the monitor is nice.

Cons: 1st thing, upon turning on the monitor you're typically greeted with a capacitor blowing sound of a *POP* from the built in speakers regardless of the input type.
Secondly, a terribly annoying flickering at the bottom of the screen, again regardless of input cable, and a nasty vertical line appeared after about 12 hours right down the center of the screen.

3RD and MOST important, there is a noticeable and measurable 50ms input lag, this makes gaming nigh impossible. Even on the desktop when navigating it's noticeable. It's even MORE apparent if you're running multiple monitors ans switch between them. It's not "slight" input lag, it's MASSIVE input lag.

Other Thoughts: So basically the image is great but it's a pain to actually use since you feel like your computer is constantly playing catch up.

Now I know that some people will wonder if it was my gpu that couldn't keep up but I tried several different one's to rule out that possibility. I tried with my R9 295x2 and R9 390x, then again with a friends Nvidia gpu, and all experienced that terrible lag.

Thinking that maybe if I tried the Dual Link DVI cable I could at least try 1440p or even 1080p, but as soon as you use any other connection than the DP it goes from a 60hz monitor to a 30hz monitor.

Needless to say after a couple days of dealing with this the best course of action was to box it up and ship it back, time to try again when I save up a bit more money.

That's what I recommend most people do, I'm not going to excuse any issues on something this expensive to save face and not look like I made a mistake, and if you're a gamer of any variety, THIS monitor is a mistake for you.

I just wanted to let you all know my experience with it.

4 out of 5 eggsDon't shut off

Pros: See below

Cons: I wrote another review of this monitor and all of what I said in that review stands. But there is a small problem. Always make sure you turn this monitor on before you turn on your computer and don't turn it off while your computer is running. It has an annoying habit of not finding my display port connection once the video has been fed to the monitor. Turn on the computer and forget to turn on the monitor and you get nothing and are forced to reboot. Turn the monitor off after you put the computer to sleep and forget to turn it on first and you get no video. Turn the monitor off while the computer is running and the same thing happens. This isn't a deal breaker but it is annoying. Also the touch controls are flaky although simply turning on the monitor is easy enough.

Other Thoughts: Still a darn good monitor but be aware of these small but annoying problems.

5 out of 5 eggsLots of Real Estate

Pros: I actually bought this monitor for the wrong reason. I’ve got a production machine with an ASUS Maximus VII motherboard and I was sure it had a Display Port connection. I really didn’t buy this for gaming but for general use. My surprise when I found out the only onboard video connection was HDMI. But I figured it was OK because I have an X99 gaming system with a GTX 970 that does have the required Display Port so I hooked up the AOC to it.
First let me tell you this thing has lots of real estate. The windows icons are tiny but still legible. The main problem is that there’s so much distance between things it means a lot of mouse movement. I never experienced any lag with the cursor but it may seem that way because you have to move the mouse twice to get from one corner to the other. My advice is increase the mouse cursor speed either in Control Panel or your rodent’s own software. That makes it much more pleasurable.
One problem is that when you open most programs or web pages they display in the middle third of the screen with nothing but white screen on both sides. The text is tiny and so are the pictures and you find yourself squinting both from the small text and the glare. Now all that tiny text is razor sharp and clear but you keep asking yourself why there isn’t a way to use up all the empty real estate. The AOC monitor does have picture in picture and picture by picture so I’m guessing this might help but you need two independent video sources and they both have to be the same frequency so if you’re using the 60 Hertz Display Port connection then you can’t feed the monitor anything over the 30 Hertz HDMI or DVI and have it work.

Cons: Now I’ve read all about 4K gaming but I played GTA V and Far Cry 4 at the native resolution with my ASUS GTX 970 and high graphics quality and had no problems. Maybe I’m just not as fussy as some people but both games played just fine. And do you know what? GTA V played tolerably well over an HDMI connection on the same video card at 30 Hertz. There was some cursor lag but it certainly wasn’t intolerable and the game world didn’t suffer terribly. Even better you can set the monitor’s resolution to 2560 x 1440 and get 60 Hertz and amazing gameplay.
But I did buy this for my production machine and I have a perfectly good 2560 X 1440 CrossOver IPS monitor for my gaming machine so I bit the bullet and hooked up the AOC using HDMI. At the 3840 X 2160 recommended resolution and 30 Hertz everything worked fine. There was no discernable screen lag and all my programs displayed fine. But again that seemingly endless real estate problem drove me crazy as did the tiny icons you had to squint to see. I tried enlarging Windows and it worked OK as well as Internet Explorer but to be honest it just seemed like it made text and the icons slightly fuzzy. Now I’m not complaining about the 30 Hertz limit imposed by HDMI but simply too much white space on most programs.
Right now I’ve changed the resolution to 2560 X 1440 and things seem almost normal. The only problem is that I’m really wasting the capabilities of this monitor. So I’m going to bite the bullet and buy a videocard with a dual link DVI connector and use my nice CrossOver 27 QS 1440P IPS monitor on my production machine and put the AOC on my gaming machine. Ah well, so much for spur of the moment purchases that I haven’t researched too well.

Other Thoughts: I have no complaints with this monitor. It’s nice looking and well put together with a stand that is both sturdy and gymnastic. It has plenty of input options and even a USB 3 hub. It comes with every cable you could want and they are of pretty good quality. For the price an excellent monitor.
Don’t buy any 4K monitor because you think it will be cool. It’s not. After all your friends have made the proper impressed noises you’re still left with that huge empty screen. You never think of working at a computer as work or effort but all the space on a 4K screen makes it seem that way. All you wind up is with tiny text and lots of white screen. Moving the mouse becomes a chore and if you scale up Windows and Internet Explorer then the icons get a little fuzzy and things aren’t clear and crisp and you find yourself sitting there thinking about all the money you spent to make yourself work harder and be more unhappy.
Gaming is a different matter and I found my GTX 970 card worked just tine at the native resolution. I’m sure there are people out there ready to disagree with that but all I can say is worked fine with me. If you’re looking to buy a new monitor then maybe it makes sense to spend the extra cash for a nice one like this AOC. Just remember when you’re not gaming there’s all that real estate to deal with.

5 out of 5 eggs3840x2160@60Hz, but only via DP

Pros: Excellent display quality. Full 4K @ 60Hz (But not via HDMI, only DP). Price. No dead pixels.

Cons: Flickering and occasional black lines (But only via HDMI@30Hz)

Other Thoughts: I have a 27" AOC 1080p monitor and have had no issues with it, so the brand didn't put me off. I had received an RMA because I thought it would only do 38x21@30Hz, but then realized that I should try it via DP instead of HDMI. New DP supports HDCP so no issues with my Ceton Infinitv; upscales my TV and Blu-Rays to 4K. Excellent value for this type of monitor. Never had an issue with an AOC monitor.

4 out of 5 eggsRetina display for your desktop

Pros: Very fine, very crisp detail. No discernable flickering like you might get if you had a 4K/30Hz display. Nice slim profile in case you wanted to VESA mount on a monitor arm or similar. The stand is nice and seems sturdy enough to hold the 28" size of this monitor.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: There is a color temperature mismatch between my two monitors. My older monitor uses compact flourescent lights for the backlight source, and this is LED. The result is that this monitor has more of a blue tint than my older one. Not a big deal, but side by side it's noticable. I decide to get a second one of these and put my other monitor out to pasture so my dual display would be more closely matched.
