Be forewarned
- Pros: Lots of cables, UGXA resolution. Great stand, built in USB hub. Good MVA, uses newer MVA type called AMVA. It has richer blacks than an S-IPS would. Still one of the better monitors even with an MVA. Good for gaming.
- Cons: You'll probably get an MVA panel. I got one and wasn't happy about it. If I could have returned it and gotten what I wanted I would have. It's a horrible trick to sell the same monitor and use two completely different panels in the monitor. Why else would you choose this monitor but for the display panel itself. It's like buying a BMW only to find you get a BMW body and an engine made by Kia or something. It's really lame of HP. Some notorious LCD's have 3 versions sold under the same model number.
- Other Thoughts: I'm not even technically reviewing the same product as all previous reviewers just to emphasize that. What I did get was still a good product though.
MVA is not like S-IPS. It has a color shifting you have to get used to. And because the angles are so sensitive the color from the same spot on the screen is a bit different to each eye which creates a reflective feel to everything. It's a great MVA, but for a quality UXGA in this price range with pivot... I don't see many other options.
Some might even prefer the AMVA panel in this to the S-IPS. If ordering this be prepared to like what you get!
Infinitely better than that other one
- Pros: INCREDIBLE viewing angle - like a CRT, pivots, solid construction. Very very happy with it. No dead pixels.
- Cons: Portrait mode looks bad without DVI (like how wrong resolution would look).
These are very minor - adjustment mechanism a bit stiff. Anti-glare a bit odd looking at first. Cable management a bit akward. No big deal.
- Other Thoughts: I bought the other 1600x1200 20.1" pivoting LCD first (not supposed to mention names in these comments) and it was horrible in comparison - terrible viewing angle. This monitor is incredible. The other one had me bobbing my head around like a parrot to see the dark parts of images. This one I can read it fine from the 4 feet to the side of the desk. Indispensable if two people viewing at the same time for this reason. I did some research and apparently the difference is this is an S-IPS panel and the other is a TN - 178 degrees is what signifies an S-IPS. Get it and you'll be happy - worth the extra $50 no question.

worst purchase of my entire life
- Pros: Yes, it is pretty, just like fishing lures are pretty. (But always remember that most fish are mostly color blind, and that most fishermen are unaware, color infatuated idioots.) That said, the matte finish problem (explained below) detracts even from photo viewing/etc. *and* even video viewing (of any kind of video). My rather old dell is better in every single way except brightness (who cares), viewing angle (but barely), and color accuracy (but on this machine I don't care). Oh, the many cables and dual dvi inputs are nice--can't take that away. (By the way, both my monitors are hooked up via dvi to the same very nice system.)
- Cons: The matte finish on this monitor is offensively smeary and blurry. It is a lot like someone smeared cooking oil all over it. Yes, matte finishes are a good thing if you have a lot of reflections to worry about, but they come at the price of blur. If you read text, especially if you read a lot, this monitor will slowly strain your eyes to the point of serious pain. I have my lp2065 side by side with a dell 1800fp that is 6 or 7 years old and getting dim with old age, but when you compare them the dell feels brand new and the lp2065 feels like a retro cheap-even-in-its-time early 1990s monitor. The lp2065 has a great matte finish, the kind that you can't really tell is even there. If I put a bare spiral florescent light bulb 8 feet behind me, I don't notice it in the dell reflection, but I can tell, if I try, that the bulb is a spiral because I can see the shape. I don't notice the bulb in the lp2065 either, but when I try I can't imagine what the light source might be.
- Other Thoughts: I am no fan of dell. I think they generally make garbage. But this hp2065 matte finish makes this the worst product I have purchased in my entire life, by far. There's a good lesson here about newegg reviews. They are a priceless resource, one of the best reasons to have an internet at all, but many reviewers are semi-ignorant. I read every review before getting the lp2065, and I saw the worry but thought the concern would be minor, based on how few comments there were. I have the ips model, and I have to say I think people are more snob-and-idiot than picky-and-choosy about the ips lottery issue. The odds are good that the matte finish issue is made worse by having two different monitors on one machine, because your eyes probably adjust better if you always look at the same matte depth. Probably this screen has a bigger than average gap between monitor surface and matte finish surface. If you must get this monitor, it likely will be better to have just one, or 2 identical.
HP LP2065
- Pros: Bright, sharp, large screen.
- Cons: Others have mentioned the anti-glare, however after sitting in front of two all day at work; it has a holographic grainy effect that starts to bother my eyes. To the point that I have replaced one with a CRT. Any long reading I put it on the CRT.
Mfg. defect in 3 of the 4 I Bought
- Pros: Great color and image detail. Acceptably wide viewing angle. I use 4 of them in a row for a trading workstation and other than some minor color shift when viewing the far edges, they work just fine.
- Cons: I already had to return one within 2 months and am getting ready to return an additional two. All have the same problem which is a very noticeable backlight bleed at the upper left edge of the screen. It looks like someone turned on a white, LED flashlight behind the screen it's so bright. Over time the size of the bleed has increased. Hopefully the fourth monitor will hold together. Since I bought all 4 of them at the same time, and they have similar serial numbers, I guess someone at the Chinese factory was having a bad day when they got assemble.
- Other Thoughts: I got these monitors directly from HP when they had a big sale with free shipping, so I can only be but so upset with the backlight bleed defect, assuming they replace the next two monitors as quickly as the first one.
