Another 1680 x 1050 resolution twenty inch monitor, this unit from well-known manufacturer HP includes a self-powered USB 2.0 hub, a fast 5 ms screen latency, and the ability to use both DVI and VGA inputs. Displaying a crisp 16.2 million colors at a 0.258 mm pixel pitch, it can also automatically sense your power voltage and frequency and automatically set it for you. No more trying to remember if you use 120 Volts at 60 Hz or 220 Volts at 50 Hz, this monitor might make a good world traveler.

Speaking of power, this unit is Energy Star compliant and therefore doesn't burn a lot to run (less than 60 watts) or to have in standby mode (less than two watts). Despite this, it is a bright monitor at 300 candelas per square meter. Other nice features are the 160 degree vertical viewing angle (140 degree horizontal), and the limited three year parts and labor warranty.

Equally at home in Europe and North America, this could be a very handy monitor for anyone travels a lot. And it's equally handy for us stay at home types who figure a trip to the grocery store is an adventure.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Monitor

Pros: Height adjustment, usb hub, landscape/portrait modes. I use this monitor at work and it is very nice. While not as crisp as other displays, it is easy on the eyes. The size is just right for smaller work spaces, yet feels big with out being big. The stand is very solid and includes the ability to route cables through it.

Cons: The management buttons are right in the center of the display and when I reach to get something from the tray built in to the base, sometimes I hit the auto set button.

Other Thoughts: I "inherited" this at work. I had a larger CRT based monitor this one is excellent. No more headaches and my cube does not feel crowded with it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellant

Pros: Perfect right out of the box. I looked around a lot before buying it. I wanted one that had an an adjustable stand and they are getting harder to find. Perfect matte finish that matches my tower. Beautiful color,no glare and no dead pixels. It is perfect!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If I had extra money, I would have two more of these.

3 out of 5 eggsOverall an Average LCD Monitor

Pros: The overall build quality is very good. I believe the original and possibly the current price reflects this. You are more paying for the quality of the stand and build than the quality of the LCD panel it self (see below). That being said the stand is very nice. The pivot and height adjustments are great. The stability is perfect and the cable management is a nice touch. Also, I haven't found any dead or stuck pixels and there is very little back light bleed.

Cons: The LCD panel is of average quality at best. It is a typical TN panel with the typical over saturated colors and brightness. There is also the standard color/brightness shifting as you move around the monitor. Out of the box the monitor was washed out and way too bright. I have to say this was when connected to my laptop via the VGA input. When connected to my desktop via the DVI input things looked a little better, but still not acceptable. Now that I have spent 3 or 4 hours adjusting it with the monitor controls and software it looks fine, but still not what I was hoping for based on other reviews.

Other Thoughts: Would I buy this monitor again? No. In fact if I wouldn't loose $50 between return shipping and a restocking fee I would return it today.

I still can't figure out why monitor manufactures brag about and jack up the brightness and contrast ratio of their cheap monitors when you are forced to turn down the brightness and contrast just to get a decent viewable image.

Just a note: I received both a DVI cable and a VGA cable in the box.

5 out of 5 eggsBut it.... you'll like it.....

Pros: Nice, sturdy base, swivels in three planes (plus can be moved vertically as well), good brightness straight on. Easy to use controls. Detected immediately in Linux. Easy to use controls. Not one dead pixel. I've had this over 6 weeks and no problems to report at this time.

Cons: I hesitate to mention this, because I'm always looking straight on to the monitor. I noticed if you view it from an angle, it's not quite as bright, but who looks at their monitor from an angle anyway?

Other Thoughts: Buy it! You won't be disappointed. Oh, and they shipped it with not one, but TWO DVI cables!! I read other reviews that said they didn't get any. I guess I got theirs hahaha. It also came with a VGA cable.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Monitor Stand

Pros: Excellent features for a reasonable price. The sturdy, adjustable stand is greatly superior to what you usually get with a monitor. This is especially important if you use the pivot feature to switch between landscape and portrait viewing modes. The smaller pixel size packs a lot of resolution into a given size screen, providing nice crisp characters and images.

Cons: On an older computer case, the DVI plug was a bit too thick to fit past an obstruction and plug into the video card. This was solved by shaving off a few millimeters of plastic from the plug using a wood chisel.

Other Thoughts: I browsed for about a year before buying this monitor so I really did the comparisons and knew it would be good. But still, I was surprised by the solid construction of this product and the image quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy!

Pros: Crisp picture, easy set up. Nice to have a 20" with 1650 x 1080. Heavy, so they won't get knocked over easily. USB on the side is handy and works. VGA & DVI supported.

Cons: Does not support HD. Contrast ratio could be better, but it's not too noticable. Lower resolutions look like junk, but why run a lower resolution?

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these a few months ago, and I love them and do not regret the purchase at all. If you are looking for a monitor of this size, I would recommend it above all others. Out of both monitors, there is only 1 dead pixel, and it is not that noticable. Download the upgrade to the software when you get it, and it should only take about 10 minutes to get the display looking as you'd like it from its easy to use interface. Check the White Point, though, the auto-setting was jacked up so I had to manually change it.

5 out of 5 eggsGets under $220, I'd buy more

Pros: Great contrast. No bad pixels. As an editor the pivot comes in handy. like the functional, austere, n nonsense look. Really like the "coin" tray base.

Cons: No DVI cable. Kind of awkward attaching the video cable and power cord with this size and weight monitor, but once it is in place this monitor isn't getting knocked over.

Other Thoughts: DVI-D interface for those ordering a DVI cable, you want a DVI-D to DVI-D cable.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Monitor

Pros: Rotation feature is nice. Bright display, no dead pixels. Heavy, sturdy base.

Cons: One odd gotcha with the rotation feature. You gotta watch the FOV parameters. The FOV is noticeably different between landscape and portrait mode. Fortunately the base swivels so you can easily rotate the monitor to get max brightness. This was more of a surprise to me than an actual negative, but thought I'd mention it.

Other Thoughts: Bought as an at-home display for my laptop. It has an NVIDIA card in it which is able to do the screen rotation with it's own built-in system. Here's an oddity... the laptop's display is wide screen also. However when I play "normal screen" games on the laptop I get black bars on the left and right side of the laptop display, effectively making the image "normal screen". But this feature is missing on the external monitor, and games are stretched. I know this is more of an issue with the video card and not the monitor, but some may be interested.

4 out of 5 eggsRealy good monitor

Pros: Really good contrast, bought this one after a fair amount of research, really cheap for what it offers.

Cons: Somewhat hard to calibrate colors and brightness. Off center viewing not as good as a Samsung. Only comes with a VGA cable, and it's really hard to find DVI to DVI cables.

Other Thoughts: I really don't have any regrets. I was looking at some of the Samsung screens but they were too expensive for what they offered, and wide screen would of been out of the question
