4 out of 5 eggsGood little monitor for the price

Pros: Bright and vivid colors, crisp on DVI and good looking, simple design. Fairly solid stand that shouldn't shake around too much. The monitor also has a fairly nice information pop-up that tells you what resolution you're currently using and what the recommended resolution is.

Cons: The OSD menu seems rather basic. Standard features like brightness, contrast, color and information is about all you'll find. The one feature I miss is the ability to stop the screen from stretching if it's receiving a 4:3 resolution.
The stand isn't very tall. I think we'll end up finding a box to set it on.
Dynamic Contrast takes a -very- long time to adjust. Switching from a light screen to a dark screen takes 10-15 seconds, if not longer. (However it does do so quite smoothly.) I do not like Dynamic Contrast in general, so I switched it off in the menu.
Outside of the menu, the buttons are not very intuitive. For example, the + button switches between VGA and DVI.

Other Thoughts: My father picked this up at popular, inexpensive retail store (rhymes with "small-tart"). It was the display model to a monitor that was being replaced by a newer model. If it's too old for this place to keep in stock, it must be getting pretty long in the tooth.

If I needed another decent looking, basic monitor, I wouldn't be sad to end up with another one of these.

3 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: Nice size, bright, the finish was ok, menu was easy to understand, comes with VGA cord, DVI input, full HD.
Fast HP customer service

Cons: No DVI cable, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time, some ghosting on small words on highest resolution (kind of made my head hurt), no HDMI input, not a good monitor for the price.

Other Thoughts: I didn't buy this from here, but rather on Someone had given me a 15% discount code and there was also a sale so the price, including shipping, cost $172. I thought that was pretty good for a 23" monitor. However, after I received it, I wasn't blown away by it. I just happened to be looking around Newegg for monitors and found the Asus VH236h. Until 8/22 (I received the HP monitor on the 21st) there was a usable promo code to get $36 off, a $20 mail-in rebate, and a $20 sale. All said and done, I will be getting a 23" 2ms monitor with HDMI input that's made by a better monitor making company for $30 less. As soon as a I ordered it, I requested an RMA from HP and sent it back the next day at a 24 hour FedEx location.

If you're thinking of buying this monitor, make sure you first take a look around to see if there are other monitors that happen to be on sale.
