4 out of 5 eggsAlmost there.

Pros: Cheap e-IPS panel still retains actual 8-bit color depth. Smooth gradients and good color accuracy. Viewing angles are great as well. Height and swivel adjust have great range (swivel 90 degrees, height is about 8 inches from bottom). Tilt is decent. Relatively low input lag and fast response times; I've had no problem playing any games, including FPSes such as BF3 and CS:S.

Monitor is, thankfully, stable enough at 100 contrast to allow for calibrations under 0.6dE for both SRGB and 2.4 gamma curve. More on reason for using 100 contrast later.

16:10 AR on 24" monitor is always nice.

Cons: Low contrast. TFTCentral posted a review that put the default contrast after calibration at around 425:1, which is, frankly, abysmal. By cranking up the contrast to 100, the black levels can be reduced to around .18 and contrast ratios to around 680:1. This is still pretty low, but it's manageable.

As a result, the "IPS glow" effect is rather pronounced for this monitor, especially when watching videos or playing game in dark environments (which my room often is when participating in those activities).

Other Thoughts: Even with that contrast ratio though, I've stuck to my monitor for well over a year now. Everything else is fine, and a black level of 0.18 is indeed bothersome, but calibrating to a gamma of 2.4 and using that for videos and games should sort out your issues.

Of course, if you don't want to/don't have to buy a colorimeter, it feels strange of you to be looking into IPS panels in the first place.

5 out of 5 eggszr24w

Pros: Great Viewing Angle
Good price.
Excellent Color

Cons: Not LED Backlit
Internal scaler doesn't work correctly.

Other Thoughts: There are issues with the scaler in this monitor, meaning 16:9 content will be slightly stretched to fit the whole screen. You can of course use GPU scaling to get around this.

The newer zr2240w model is LED backlit, and the scaler issues have been sorted out; however, early reviews say the color quality doesn't stack up to the zr24w.

People aren't fooling around when they say this thing is bright. I had to crank my brightness all the way down to 15 for it to be reasonable. After that it looks gorgeous.

5 eggs from me. It fit my needs exactly. A great 16:10 S-IPS monitor at a reasonable price with no dead pixels or light bleeding issues.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat, aside from the ozone

Pros: Great image quality and viewing angles from the IPS panel; USB hub is very useful; tilt/swivel/height-adjustable stand is good; the 1920x1200 resolution is very useful and increasingly rare as 1080p televisions have ruined the monitor market

Cons: Emitted very strong odor of ozone. People down the hall thought something was on fire. It's also a bit thick, but in practical terms that probably doesn't matter.

Other Thoughts: With its IPS LCD panel, versatile stand, built-in USB ports, 1200 vertical pixels, and reasonable price this would be nearly a perfect monitor -- if only it hadn't tried to gas us with ozone.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat if..

Pros: Nice looking, very sturdy and 16x10. I really liked this monitor. If you can get these monitors with out defects they are great.

Cons: Well let me start. Two of these were ordered from another very reputable site. The first two were defective in the sense that one had debris in the LCD itself, the other had a cluster of about 7 to 10 stuck red pixels. Those were sent back and two more were sent out. Received the replacements, one was perfect so I checked the other and it had a stuck white pixel. Informed HP of this and they send out a replacement. Opened that one and found that it also had debris in the LCD. This has been a month of back and forth trying to get a a decent set of monitors. I have now given up and sending everything back for a refund. Thanks goes to the company for working with me on this. I'am pretty much disgusted with HPs quality on these high end monitors and will be looking at other brands. I was really looking forward to owing a pair of these. See other thoughts on HPs monitor policy.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor For Coding and/or Gaming

Pros: 16x10 Aspect ratio. Important if you need those extra vertical pixels.

Text looks great.

Brightness! I turned the brightness down to 0. Seems fine to me that way.

The buttons used to navigate the menu are intuitive. (Except for the '+/-' thing... but that is minor)

Comes with all the cables.

Cons: There's no single source button. Instead, you have to hit the '+' button, and then select the source using either the '+' or '-' button. My old monitor had a single source button to switch to the next active source. It's a very slight annoyance, as I switch sources frequently, but I got used to it.

When navigating the menu, it seems to me the '+' and '-' buttons are reversed from what I expected them to do. '+' goes up, and '-' goes down. I can't explain why it seems backwards to me...

When you turn the monitor off completely, you lose the USB hub... I would have hoped that the USB hub would stay on despite the display being turned off. The USB hub does work fine when monitor is in sleep mode.

Other Thoughts: The newegg photo is wrong. The monitor comes with a Display Port cable, not a HDMI cable.

Response time is 7ms... I was very slightly concerned about that being too slow, but I don't see any ghosting or any other issues when playing FPS's.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good quality display, good assembly.

Cons: Ordered 2 displays, one came shattered. Was NOT caused by packaging or UPS, came shattered from the factory. Packaging was excellent and strong.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Satisfied

Pros: Less than $400 for an IPS monitor! Viewing angle is much better than my non-IPS monitors. This baby is bright, I had to set it to 50% or less, whereas my other monitors are set to 80-90%. The stand also swivels and monitor has 2 USB ports on left-side which description fails to mention. No bad pixels that I can find. The bezel is pretty thin, just 3/4", so it works nicely in my Eyefinity setup.

Cons: Thicker than I thought it would be, just over 2". My other IPS monitor from many years ago is almost 3/4" thinner. Has that annoying bright blue power led, I wish manufacturers would take a hint from more stylish makers and use muted led colors.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm very happy. When the time comes to go from a 3 monitor Eyefinity setup to a 6 monitor, I will definitely check to see if this monitor is still available.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Display

Pros: -IPS Panel
-Adjustable Stand
-Bright! (can't stress that enough)
-Great Color
-USB Options
-DVI/HDMI/Display Port Options
-Doesn't put off as much heat as my old LG 22" LCD
-Comes with every cable you could possibly need
-3YR Warranty

Cons: -Brightness is a bit overwhelming at first, as is going up in resolutions.
-Not as cheap as some TN panels but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: I was on the fence about a monitor purchase for over a month trying to decide which would be best reading review after review gathering as many facts and getting my hands on as much material as possible. In the end I'm very happy with my purchase, it boiled down to the ZR24W or LA2405wg (IPS VS TN) needless to say I went with the IPS. We have these stands at work on some of our older HP screens and they're worth the difference between the two alone.

I've been messing with color settings using some that are easily found on the internet and it's proved fairly successful although I have a feeling I will ultimately end up investing in a colorimeter to calibrate this. Usage as follows 30% photography/editing 30% gaming 40% general. Coming from a 5+ year old 22" LG 2ms screen I notice ZERO difference with input or mouse latency, no ghosting or tearing. It's been tried in WoW, TF2, and Quake Live.

Overall, very happy with the product and the service from newegg as always!
