5 out of 5 eggsFine piece

Pros: After all the reviews I read I was somewhat despondent to purchase but, I was either lucky or the Q.C. is much better. Very nice monitor, no damage, no bad pixels, used DVI-D cable very nice color, very happy! ( :

Cons: None, JUST MAKE A LITTLE MORE SPACE WHEN YOU REMOVE YOUR ORIGINAL MONITOR!

Other Thoughts: Very good for Autocad or Solidworks users (LOTS OF SCREEN)

4 out of 5 eggsMy update on ZR30w - after 2 years

Pros: High performance, high resolution, large format monitor.

Cons: Needs color calibration; considerably off, using factory setting. (I used Datacolor Spyder software) It makes quite a difference, in critical color work. Brightness seems lower, over time. It definitely gets brighter, and stabilizes brighter after about 10-15 minutes from turned on. Price is very high, although the monitor has few peers, and some others are more expensive. In the purchase of a second large format monitor for my office upgrade, I recently purchased (another source) an HP ZR2740w monitor. (Still have the 30 inch)

Other Thoughts: In a recent upgrade of my office equipment (private engineering practice), I added a new HP ZR2740w monitor. Two things drove my decision: nearly the same size; substantially lower cost. The ZR2740w monitor is a lot of bang for the buck, as they say. A GREAT value. One extreme surprise that I have appreciated a lot is the MUCH brighter screen of the ZR2740w, over that of the ZR30w. Also, when it initially turns on, it is full brightness. There is no "warm up" to full brightness. This is geatly appreciated. I believe this is perhaps due to the LED backlighting improvement, not used in the older monitors. Both are good monitors, but I am greatly impressed with the savings, and high performance of the new 27 inch HP monitor. Given the choice today, I would have purchased the 27 inch monitor over the 30 inch.

I really appreciate the extra brightness of the ZR2740w monitor. But, you do have to turn it down in lower lighting conditions. I have set up shortcut keys on my keyboard to do this, using the Catalyst Control Center software that comes with Radeon based graphics cards that I use. (My card is the HIS7870, which I purchased from newegg)

5 out of 5 eggsDear, Openthomas

Pros: I'm sure this is just as good as my dell U3011

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: 1) Your tech level is clearly 2 or below, I'll explain why...
2) You're crying about a MAC MINI not being able to power the highest resolution monitor on the market? I have to admit, you gave me a huge laugh as I was sipping on my Dr. Pepper and I just barely turned my head in-time; so as not to soak my beautiful U3011 in caffeinated liquid death. So, anyway... to make a long story short. The moron is half right on this. Apple fools have no business buying this monitor. Most of you are running integrated gfx, which means you WILL NOT be able to use this monitor.

thomas, please buy a clue before lambasting a perfectly good product. I guarantee if you buy ANY other 30" IPS on the market, you will get the exact same results.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Monitor

Pros: PC gaming at this resolution is beautiful; the colors are great the display is solid with no pixel issues or back light bleed. If you are thinking about this monitor but, are holding back due to the lack of an OSD....don't. The picture looks amazing out of the box. The brightness adjustment is all you really need. No ghosting on any of the games either.

Cons: People or (Kids) that don't appreciate a great piece of hardware. People that write erroneous reviews that do not own the product.

Other Thoughts: Great monitor.. :)

5 out of 5 eggsEye Shattering

Pros: If your even contemplating the purchase of this fine piece of technology then I don't need to go into detail regarding the technical pro's over standard led wife screens.

I wanted to write this review not because I wanted to boast about the product. I would like to think anyone considering such a piece of technology would know about IPS displays and what they offer. I felt compelled at correcting the slanderous negative reviews regarding this product brought to you by no other than "apple users". Apple users tend to think that because this particular panel is equipped with a display port it will/should work with any and all computer systems regardless of the technical babble they receive from HP's customer service. Here's an idea..., Stop throwing blame at HP and take responsibility for your inability at reading the "Clearly visible" caution and warning labels found on the box and directions stating that some laptops/desktops using built in graphics (CPU/motherboard graphics) and not "dedicated" graphics cards may not be compatible with this panel. It makes perfect sense and I'll tell you why. computers that do not have a dedicated graphics card quite simply do not have the required graphics processing power and/or video memory to support the high native resolution of the screen that you just bought. Therefore a stable video signal is unlikely if not impossible. To write a review stating they had contacted technical support specialists and received an answer as to why their screen won't work (in plain English I might add) but then only to either not believe/or accept the answer is utterly ridiculous. Your upset because you took a chance knowing it may not work because your using an apple product *lol* with on board graphics (not dedicated) and it didn't work. This monitor was created to be paired with an equally impressive computer system. This screens equal obviously requires 1) A desktop in most cases and I'll tell you why in number two 2) An independent graphics processing unit (GPU). Your laptop was designed to operate with it's paired screen which I believe is 11 inches or 13 or w/e not 30 inches which is what this screen is. Also what's your native resolution for your laptop? I can tell you its nowhere close to what the ZR30w was designed to pump out. Just because you people buy a substandard (thinking its the best thing on the market) apple product does not mean it can perform miracles. These professional monitors were designed for professional graphic design, or art work which require an insurmountable amount of cpu/gpu power. You simply can not get this power from a mac mini. To think so shows ignorance to an absurd degree. Again if you didn't know this going in to your purchase of this fine product that's fine, but don't feign ignorance and don't blame HP insinuating they ripped you off. Make a purchases using logic rather than haste and you guys might 1) buy a graphics card and use this monitor where it belongs on a desk and 2)

Cons: using it paired with a desktop with an independent graphics card with the technical capabilities of out putting to a professional screen such as the HP ZR30w. Thanks

4 out of 5 eggsVery Important. Read The Con.

Pros: Almost everything about this monitor is perfect. Except whats in the con. What everyone says about this monitor is true. Its one of the best on the market. Great picture color, brightness, contrast, size, resolution, etc. It doesn't use stupid touch sensitive menu buttons like Samsung has been doing and I love them for that. Costumer Support was by far the best I have ever experience in my life til now. Instead of me send it to them, they send a guy over to me and replace my monitor with a brand new one. Best support ever. Monitor last for very long time.

Cons: Okay this is very important for everyone using Display Port. This will explain the people who has been using Apple on this display. I don't use Apple. With great things also comes bad things. This monitor is not perfect, but almost perfect. The problem why everyone who uses Apple Mini on this display has problem is NOT because HP doesn't support Apple. Its the Display Port itself that's causing the problems. Apple Mini uses Display Port plugs. All HP ZR30w has some kind of problem with their Display Port. Its not a manufacture defect. Its the design. Its something with the chips or firmware inside. This has not been fix by HP and don't think it will. I found this out by experimenting with their monitor after it start dieing on me. If you switch to DVI ports it is perfectly fine. I've tested it out using multiple graphic card, when to turn on monitor when I turning on PC, how long the monitor rest until turn back on, by unplugging display port and plugging it back on the monitor, and etc. I found out that it doesn't matter if you use a regular PC or a Mac. As long as you use the Display Port on the HP, you will have the some kind of problem, like black screen, not turning on, lines on the screen, image problems from corrupted signal, etc. I found out that its a easy fix, but you have to do this every time. If your display dies when PC goes to sleep or even when restarting or turn on PC, all you have to do is unplug the port and plug it back in. Some monitor will require you to just press the power button off and back on. Press on a off a couple times if first try don't work. But remember that this will only work for so long until your monitor starts to get worst. Depending on the monitors, some will die, some will have graphic problem, and some will have other effects. Not all HP monitors will have the same effects. The best thing to do is to not use the Display Port and only use the DVI port. For all those people who uses Apple, try finding a way to use DVI adapter instead. See if that works. Also forgot to mention that these problems mostly occur on the max resolution of 2560x1600. It may occur on other resolutions too but from what my test shows, it only cause problems on max resolution on the display port. All the people who are having black outs on their monitor, chances are is that you are using the Display Port and should switch to DVI port. So far the DVI has not cause any problems. If you try everything and its still doesn't show anything, RMA it. HP was nice enough to give me a brand new one because I've explain to them everything I have done and tried.

Other Thoughts: For those of you who are having other non related problems, I feel sorry for you. So far this is the only problems I've found in these monitors. Everything else is fine. And for some of those people, I just don't think you know what you are doing because of your bad review.
As long as you don't use the Display Port and stick with DVI port, most of you should be fine. These HP monitor are not 100% perfect, but they are pretty close to perfect for me. The minus 1 egg is only due to the fact that every one of these monitor has a problem with their Display Port design. Hope I didn't leave anything out.

3 out of 5 eggsNot for Mac users

Pros: In a word, amazing! The most beautiful display I've seen.

With plenty of connection options and the color and response performance you'd expect from a >$1,000 monitor, this monitor does not disappoint -- buy it if you don't use a Mac mini.

I have a Late 2012 Mac mini.

Like another reviewer said, about 1/3 of the time, the monitor will not wake from sleep, forcing me to hard restart the system. I use my system mainly for play, but if I were doing mission-critical work, I would not want this display paired with my Mac mini.

I returned my display and paid the restocking fee so I could have a display that plays better with my built-in graphics system.

Cons: Does not play well with Mac systems -- doesn't consistently wake from sleep.

A monitor that has a DisplayPort hole should work with computers that output to DisplayPort, regardless of vendor.

Other Thoughts: I'm no software expert, but I bet HP could fix this wake-from-sleep problem with some kind of firmware update. The display is pretty, but I prefer one that is universal, not Windows specific.

1 out of 5 eggsWatch out Apple users ! HP does NOT have your back.

Pros: Its a nice looking display. The colors are crisp. The picture even.

Cons: The big issue with this monitor for me is that using a 2012 Mac Mini it does not wake up from sleep 1/3 of the time. Also it does not wake up on initial power up 1/3 of the time. A huge inconvenience I am constantly losing my work. I have exchanged both the cable (three times) and the mac mini. So definitely the monitor.

I call HP tech support and they claim the cause of the issue is that the display in the mini is a embedded video card and not a 'real' slot in graphics card. Since they classify the ZR30W as a commercial monitor (what?) it will only function with a slot in graphics card. They do not support its use with embedded video displays such as in the Mac Mini, MacBook Pro or iMac.

That's right - HP do not support a display with a standard input when coupled with products from the worlds largest PC supplier because... they have created some arbitrary classification. There is no real reason.

A standard output is a *standard output*, regardless of if it is produced by a embedded or slot in display card. That's why its called a standard.

Displayport is a **standard** and that is a _excuse_ for a defective product design. I plainly told them this and they offered to send me a new replacement. Several times they used the term brand new replacement until I asked if it was refurbished and then the term changed to refurbished replacement. Its been on my desk a week.

Other Thoughts: Its a unfinished product with a major and crippling defect. HP do not stand behind their products. Excuses and lies.

Apple users !! NO !! Buy the Apple Cinema display !! This is a mistake and you will sorely regret it.

5 out of 5 eggsN/A

Pros: It is a beautiful monitor--lots of real estate and beautiful color--easy to install and well packaged--it is Spartan in design, as are most truly professional products.

Cons: One dead pixel (sigh!). Some people may be put off by the anti-glare coating, but that did not bother me. OSD is not really needed, but it would have been nice if the brightness control had an onscreen indicator to let one know how high or low it is being set.

Other Thoughts: I think I have figured out why the larger IPS panels are priced so high: the return rate for stuck/dead pixels is significant enought to drive up the price. I finally bought my unit (not from New Egg, but from another equally-trusted outfit). I am the type of person who does not bat an eye about returning defective items, but it actually made me sad to have to return my ZR30W for replacement just for one dead pixel (the merchant I bought it from had no problem with me doing so--I just hope my replacement has no problem pixels)! It is too bad that manufacturers can't currently find a more reliable manufacturing process, but for the price of this monitor it should be perfect upon delivery. Every one who buys this, or a similar, monitor should immediately upon hooking it up download and run a free program such as "UDPixel" to make sure the monitor is free of dead/stuck pixels.

Cons: It's not on Sale as yet.
