2 out of 5 eggsPoor viewing angles and way overpriced

Pros: * Decent colors right out of the box
* Sharp
* Lower power consumption
* Nice stand

Cons: * Poor viewing angles!! Don't get me wrong, it's not the worst I've ever seen. But at this price is totally unacceptable. Save your money and buy something way cheaper. My really old LG L246WP blows this away.
* Contrast is very poor at low brightness levels. But if you like your monitor brighter than a supernova you won't have any problems. Again, my really old LG L246WP is much, much, MUCH better.

Other Thoughts: * I couldn't load the software on the included disc -- if you have IE10 it will be incompatible. I tried my best to find a newer version on their site, only to install it and be told I need to download yet another version again.
* Since installing their software both monitors are doing strange things -- occasionally going blank. So, I don't know if it is interfering with my video driver, or what, but it is lame.

5 out of 5 eggsNever know if these reviews are real, but...

Pros: WOW! Bought two of these monitors to replace two aging MAC cinema displays. I had been trying to decide to go back with MAC displays, but a friend recommended these. Never Outstanding quality and just hooked them up and went right back to work, and saved over a thousand dollars, with no noticeable quality loss whatsoever.

Cons: The shipping boxes are too large.

Other Thoughts: NOW, if they just continue to perform over a few months, this was a fantastic move for a small business owner such as myself. Stay tuned.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperior Viewing

Pros: Right out of the box, I have just one word, "Wow." The extra space afforded by the 16:10 ratio is instantly apparent and very useful. The collors are brilliant.

What is most striking is the SHARPNESS of the picture. There is no smudging and it's clear and concise. Even at non native 1900X1200 resolution, it still looks super sharp. I've been able to switch to (Old school) games that have set full screen resolutions, and they look perfect. Even more impressive is the viewing angles. Vertrilly no color change even at wide angles and the picture looks great now matter which location I'm looking at it in my room.

I had been using a ViewSonic VX2460h-LED Black Moniter. I can hardly believe my eyes as the different. SO MUCH BETTER.

Cons: Watch out when playing films, this IS a 16:10 NOT a 16:9 so you will see some small blank areas in the top and bottom of your screen. Not much of a con, but a possible negitive to be aware of.

Other Thoughts: Should have purchased this monitor instead of going through my headach with my ViewSonic VX2460h-LED Black. I won't knock ViewSonic for trying to be helpful, but their monitor just wasn't as good as this one.

4 out of 5 eggsMonitor goes black

Pros: Big, bright, crisp, great deal for money

Cons: I see that another reviewer is having the same issues that I am suddenly experiencing with the monitor just going black. I've had the monitor for almost 3 months without a problem but all of a sudden today, it's acting wierd.
The power LED remained blue, the buttons would bring up the menu and I could turn the monitor off and on, but no picture. After unplugging and replugging the power cable in the monitor then came back on, but only after several attempts. Had a computer tech come out to take a look, thought the problem was my cpu, but he told me my monitor was going bad! Not sure what to do....

Other Thoughts: Other than this issue that has me bewildered, I have been extremely happy and in love with this monitor. I do a ton of photo editing and my images always come back from the lab looking fabulous. I really hope this is just a little fluke and no serious problems arise!

3 out of 5 eggsFolloup to first review

Pros: See previous review. All pros still stand.

Cons: This has happened to me twice, the first was on the day I received it, the second happened yesterday. On the first day, the monitor just went black about 3 hours after I started using it while I was browsing the web. The power LED remained blue as if it was getting a signal, but the buttons would not bring up the menu or even turn the monitor off. I flipped the power switch on the back of the monitor and it did turn off, but once I flipped it back on the monitor would not turn back on. Once I unplugged and replugged the power cable the monitor then came back on.

The second time was yesterday I went to turn on my computer and the monitor would again not turn on, same effect with the power switch, I had to unplug and replug the power cable to get it to turn on.

Other Thoughts: I switched from DisplayPort to DVI and will see if it happens again in the next few days. I doubt that is the problem, sounds more like a control board or power supply issue to me.

5 out of 5 eggsJust...Wow...

Pros: First thing is that FedEx delivered it today (Saturday), which was unexpected but certainly not unwelcome. Anyway, to the monitor. I came from using a Samsung 2433BW I bought here on Newegg a couple of years ago and I thought that it was a great quality monitor (for a TN panel, remember in 2010 IPS panels were expensive as sin). This HP ZR2440w, though, just blows it away. Let's break it down into sections to make it easier to follow.

Colors: Vibrant, amazing. There really isn't any way to describe the difference. Between the IPS panel (what kind of IPS panel HP doesn't say) and LED backlighting they all really stand out without being oversaturated or overpowering.

Backlight: Strong, yet very adjustable. On 100% it is borderline to bright, but 90% is great for my eyes. On 0% it is still pretty bright (I've seen dimmer laptops on 100%) and perfect for internet and text uses.

Connectivity: DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, USB, and an audio connector (for HDMI audio passthrough). Newegg doesn't tell you this, but IT DOES INCLUDE A DISPLAYPORT CABLE, about 6 feet long. DO NOT do what I did and waste $18 for on a cable because you don't need it. It also includes a DVI cable and USB cable.

Usage: No flickering on <%100 brightness unlike other monitors which are reviewed on here. No whine (and I am pretty sensitive to high pitched sounds) at <100% brightness either. No ghosting either, not even in fast pace FPS's.

Assembly: Easy, it's a quick latch system.

Stand: Height, tilt, and swivels while the base remains stationary. Also feels pretty sturdy.

Features: It has one feature which is lacking on many monitors, and that is Image Scaling. Most monitors will just do a Stretch if you run it at a lower resolution, but this monitor includes the options for Fit (centered), Stretch To Aspect Ratio (scales the image up within aspect ratio), and Stretch (fill the whole panel). You can even turn off the power LED on the bottom corner if you desire. Control buttons are on the front, not the side, and are buttons, not touch sensors.

Viewing angle: Insanely large, 180° easily with no color shifting or noticeable brightness shift in both vertical and horizontal planes.

Cons: No quick presets for brightness adjustment (such as full for games, 25% for internet, etc). Doesn't include an HDMI cable. I know they're very cheap these days, but that's no reason not to include one. Doesn't come professionally color calibrated.

Other Thoughts: I am tempted to knock off an egg for those cons, but it's not a big deal for me. Minus 1.7 million eggs for Newegg not telling us it includes a DisplayPort cable. For this price it is an amazing monitor, and being an IPS panel it has a extremely large viewing angle which makes it perfect for a dual monitor setup.

5 out of 5 eggsbeautiful monitor

Pros: Just got this, unboxed, and hooked it up. This monitor is big and bright and high res, but its size and sharpness make it very readable, and combined with the matte finish, it is pleasant on the eyes. The color is great and blacks and whites look crisp and true.

One reason I chose this model was the variety of inputs. I can quickly switch between them to let me use it with multiple computers and other devices. It also has HDCP so I can use the HDMI port with a standard consumer blue ray player / media streamer.

Build quality is great, and all the adjustments are really handy, especially the height adjustment. Built in 4 port USB hub is handy as well, with two ports on the back, and two on the side for easy access.

Cons: It does have audio out jacks for audio that comes in over HDMI or DisplayPort, but it doesn't seem to have any sort of volume control. This is a monitor, not a TV, so its not really a big deal, but it is annoying when using it with devices like BluRay players which also do not have internal volume controls.

Other Thoughts: Worth the extra cost vs some of the other consumer stuff out there. A good monitor can out last several computers, so going for quality I think is a good investment.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesomeness

Pros: This thing is just awesome, I went out on a whim because I usually don't purchase HP monitors. When I first saw it I was comparing it to some other monitors with similar features, but anyone something about it just told me to but it and it is just down right AWESOME

Cons: Well to be honest I was hugely disappointed that this monitor was better than the one I had, that means I had to lie to like 2 maybe 3 chicks. No but really the only CON but not really a con is to me its super bright. Right now I run with my brightness setting on 25 out of 100, but in theory that should just give me more life out of it, eh ? I'm not canadian

Other Thoughts: I love the shapes and curves of this device ? It's just beautifull, gorgeous, and just all around fun to look at.

5 out of 5 eggsStunning

Pros: Incredibly accurate color straight out of the box. Surprised how much more accurate compared to my old NEC 90GX2 - makes me not miss the gloss finish at all. I could never get the 90GX2 to accurately match prints.. yet when viewing recent photos on this new HP ZR2440w - I instantly felt relieved in seeing an almost perfect match to my prints.

The monitor has a nice handle-like grip on top, snaps easily onto the sturdy base, and everything was packaged securely while also being easy to unpack.

A few weeks ago I unpacked a NEC EA243WM-BK and the HP slightly wins in packaging + physical design. I only used that NEC monitor for a few days at an office, being my initial thought for upgrading, but research led me to this HP and I'm glad for that. The HP wows me in color; I wasn't feeling that from the NEC EA243WM-BK. The HP might have slightly sharper text, too.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: so long as it lasts many years, excellent product for the price

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent so far

Pros: LED backlight, doesn't get hot, VESA mount, excellent color reproduction, NO ghosting, physically looks great, 1920x1200 (not 1920x1080), power supply is built in rather than a power brick (which can be a pro or con depending on what you prefer), and the on-screen menu system is one of the easiest to use that I've seen for years!

Cons: Price I guess? But you get what you pay for right? Made in China...

Other Thoughts: I bought this for $389 to replace a $160 Asus VE248H 24" that has the ghosting issue (overdrive is forced on) when dragging windows/scrolling, etc., but apparently this isn't on all video cards. Very irritating! There was really no way to disable the "Overdrive" feature for good, you have to go into a secret menu and the setting doesn't save. Color looked a little weird on it too. This HP comes with the Overdrive feature disabled by default. Of course when I turn it on I get ghosting. So that's a plus on HP's part! It took me just a few minutes to get this looking like the Dell 27" I've had since like 2008. I haven't used the base because I only have this on a VESA mount arm, so I can't comment on the base. And I really haven't been a fan of HP consumer laptops, but man, as long as this monitor continues to work well, they've hit a homerun with this baby. You want a great monitor and willing to pay the price, you won't be sorry. I don't write many reviews either, so I went out of my way to write this one.
