1 out of 5 eggsShort monitor life

This review is from: HP Pavilion 23xi Silver / Black 23" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: Vibrant colors
Sleek design

Cons: Short life

Other Thoughts: Just adding my voice to the others that lament the poor build quality of the HP Pavilion 23xi computer monitor. Just a few months after I bought one the, the monitor began to show minor color issues that I ignored. I should have taken care of the problem then, because just as the monitor goes out of warranty, distinct colored horizontal lines appeared. Hewlett Packard's support is aware of the discoloration issue (as evident by numerous support posts on the web attesting to the colored lines issue) but unwilling to help. This monitor probably had the shortest lifetime out of any non-refurbished monitor I've ever had.
Buyer beware, look at the other similar postings here and elsewhere. If you're going to spend this much on a monitor and want to use it beyond a year's time, make sure it is not an HP.

5 out of 5 eggsSharp!

This review is from: HP Pavilion 23xi Silver / Black 23" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: I have never been a HP fan, but the specs of this monitor intrigued me greatly. All I can say so far is wow! It's looks are solid, it fits in any décor so nicely.
The display has blown me away. The viewing angles are awesome. Being able to just sit in front of it is enjoyable.

Cons: Not free, didn't come with a lifetime of beer. Wasn't packed in gold foil.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend for sure. And the price will be impossible to beat.

2 out of 5 eggsDone Too Soon

This review is from: HP Pavilion 23xi Silver / Black 23" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: Beautiful for the first 8 months of its life.

Cons: After 8 months and 3 days of average use, it is now beginning to fail. Has developed course horizontal lines and a blueish green tint on the right 1/3 of the display screen.

Other Thoughts: Disappointing, really enjoyed this monitor. Just not built to last. Too bad.

4 out of 5 eggsGood monitor for a good price.

This review is from: HP Pavilion 23xi Silver / Black 23" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: Full HD resolution, thin bezels, overall nice design.

Cons: Blacks were a little gray with default settings, adjusting gamma helped tremendously. It's no Apple Display, but for the price I can't complain.

3 out of 5 eggsFailing?

This review is from: HP Pavilion 23xi Silver / Black 23" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: Very small margin at sides. Crystal color match.
Price from Newegg.

Cons: I've had this monitor since early March. It stays on a lot but mostly in sleep mode. This week it's showing some pixelation at the top of the screen as if it were an old CRT type monitor. (top 2-3 rows of pixels are flickering on some screens. This seems to be early to be failing.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy! I've replaced 2 out of the 3 that I bought

This review is from: HP Pavilion 23xi Silver / Black 23" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: thin bezel, reasonably priced, HP has great support

Cons: 2 out of my 3 have failed and had to be replaced within only 5 months of use.

Other Thoughts: I bought 3 of these monitors in April 2013 for use in my home office. I bought them because they were reasonably priced, had great reviews, and I really liked their thin bezels. They seem well built and not of cheap quality but once they'd been used for a while the problems began...

After about 3 months, one of them started to developer narrow non-moving horizontal red lines from the left side of the screen. I write computer software so I'm good at troubleshooting. I tried a different monitor to the same cable, tried switching the monitor's power supply with one of the others, tried both hdmi and vga ports, different cables, unplugged and replugged in the monitor after letting it sit for a while, factory reset, even plugged the monitor into a different computer - but the lines remained. I do not travel with them and I turn them off when they are not in use.

I immediately called HP Support who was very helpful and thorough in making sure that I had appropriately diagnosed the issue. They agreed to exchange the monitor for a refurbished one (which is what every company does nowadays). While I was waiting for the replacement monitor to arrive the lines got worse. I returned the bad one and the replacement monitor hasn't had any issues (going on 2 months now).

However, today 9/25 I turn them all on to start my work day and I see the exact same red lines on the left side of one of the other monitors (*not* the one they'd sent me as a replacement). So, after another call to HP, this one is now getting replaced too. Both of these monitors had less than 850 "backlight hours" on them (which can be seen from the menu on the monitor).

On the plus-side HP Support is great. So if you like to call support and have things replaced go for it. Overall, I'm disappointed and if it had been only one monitor I'd probably write it off as a "one-off". But seeing as this has now happened to me twice with 2 different monitors, there seems to be a pattern of a manufacturing defect going on here. I'll probably sell all 3 once I get this problematic one replaced and end up buying something else. I hope this helps save someone else from the frustration I've had with these.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy - replaced 2 out of 3 so far

This review is from: HP Pavilion 23xi Silver / Black 23" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: Thin bezel, reasonably priced, HP Support is very good

Cons: Seems to have manufacturing defect (read full review)

5 out of 5 eggsHP 23xi_$149 w/coupon

This review is from: HP Pavilion 23xi Silver / Black 23" 7ms HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor, IPS Panel 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: This HP 23xi does everything as advertised, vivid natural color, anti-glare in all light, and great response times. HP makes (specs out) great monitors; photos, streaming video, movies play with the correct color, contrast and white balance. This is one great buy for a multimedia monitor.

Cons: $229/ $149 does not make a professional monitor. Professional monitors, $600 to $2500, require that they are calibrated for the task that the software requires. Engineering workstations are corrected for internal errors, $ 3000 minimum cost, software $ 5000 to $15000. This is not a con but an observation.

Other Thoughts: Research before you buy. Beware of the pricing tiers, low specification items are usually no bargains. Current monitors owned HP, NEC MultiSync and ViewSonic.
