This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: none

1 out of 5 eggsI bought this mainly as a PC & console gaming monitor but was disappointed.

This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: - slim
- light weight
- doesn't get burning hot, only warm
- 27" is noticeably a lot bigger compared to 19"

Cons: - weak color reproduction, low color saturation
- no color saturation option
- power cable input in back of monitor gets loose causing monitor to turn off
- reflective screen (liquid crystal display)
- no speakers or headphone jack input
- 7ms for gaming isn't as good as 5ms and below

I bought this mainly as a PC & console gaming monitor but was disappointed. I thought since this monitor costs a little more than others that it would better but I was wrong. Also the first monitor I received came with couple of dead pixels (noticeable in dark colors), second one didn't but all the issues I mention below made me return this monitor.

Other Thoughts: These are my main problems with this monitor

1. No color saturation option

I think most monitors always have a color saturation option, this monitor doesn't.

I have an old AOC 720p 19" monitor that has a color saturation option with a slide bar where it let's you change the image color from grey-scale to intensely colorful. The only color options this HP monitor offers are presets called warm, cool, standard, and custom (RGB). Even with the custom RGB (red, green, blue) mode all maxed out, the colors still seem lacking and unimpressive compared to what my AOC 19" monitor can do.

The only way to increase the color saturation to almost look like my AOC 19" on this HP monitor is to use an image preset mode called photo. The problem is you can't edit the color saturation and the colors are it's still unimpressive for the amount of money that this monitor costs. Also when playing GTA V during a sunset while using this photo preset mode there's this annoying purple outline around some of the clouds, roads and other objects. I think it's because this HP monitor can't reproduce a certain shade of the color grey properly when using this mode. This purple outline problem doesn't happen with my AOC 19" monitor even with the color saturation maxed out.

2. Reflective screen (liquid crystal display)

If any of your walls or objects have any type of light bouncing off of them you will see their distracting and annoying reflections on this HP monitor's screen. You'll have to play in a completely dark room to enjoy using it.I have a NEC MultiSync 90GX2 monitor that has a reflective screen that gives clear sharp images and great colors, so I bought this HP monitor knowing it had a reflective screen thinking that would somehow give the same image quality as my NEC monitor and improve the image quality over monitors with the matte anti-glare coating screens but I was wrong. The anti-glare screens look just as good (depending on the monitor) as liquid crystal displays without the reflections.

3. No speakers or headphone jack input

If you're using a monitor for PC & console gaming you should get a monitor with speakers. It's way more convenient to plug in your speaker system (3.mm cable) to the headphone jack of the monitor and get audio from HDMI instead of buying RCA audio adapters for your console. Since consoles don't have audio options like equalizers, you can manipulate the audio through your monitors audio settings. Most monitors with speakers let you adjust trebble, bass, ect.

4. 7ms on/off response

I do notice more ghosting than usual compared to monitors with less ms time when playing games.

After using different monitors it seems the best options for gaming are 5ms to 1ms.

5 out of 5 eggsBallin' Monitor!

This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: You want this monitor! You NEED this monitor! The sleek design screams high-end! Factory settings are golden from the initial setup.

Cons: None. Just that my desk needs to be bigger now because two of these bad boys side by side for a dual display setup is in my future.

Other Thoughts: Get this one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor Value

This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: Great picture, got it on a deal. Monitor looks good.

Cons: Monitor surface is glossy, so need to be aware of this. Glare isn't an issue for me where I have it located. No height adjustment.

5 out of 5 eggsbest ips monitor

This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: I bought 3 different 27" IPS monitors from Samsung, LG, and HP. The HP had the best picture quality, brightness, and colors. Samsung came 2nd and LG was horrible. The 27xi is the only model that does not have the anti-glare coating. (23xi does) which distorts the image. Great Buy!

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsEverything I wanted BUT

This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: IPS display (meaning i can view it from any angle with out the screen becoming to dark or to light) great for movies and photo editing.

1080P

the 5 (or7ms) delay is not noticeable and i have never encountered an instance of ghosting. i play a lot of mmo's and FPSS

its very light that of a 19inch

silver finish doesn't seem like it will flake and although made of plastic seems very sturdy.

its extremely thing, but my webcam still has a nice sturdy home on top. the viewing angle from so high is very pleasing to those i skype with.

comes with CS software for calibration and the ability to partition (split) my screen real estate meaning i can have youtube, adobe, illustrator and an RSS feed on the screen at the same time with different sizes seamlessly.

the flat touch activated icons on the front turn on and off depending on when you are using them allowing for full emersion in any movie or game, which i care about a lot. the power button is always on, but i have found a way in the menu to have it turned off.

Cons: there is no vesa mounting holes, i have found that you can get a vesa mount adapter for quite cheap. but its still a let down.

Other Thoughts: this legit looks like an Apple based display, and for a fraction of the price this provides exactly the same quality.

5 out of 5 eggsAstonishing 27" IPS

This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: - only paid $209.99
(after promotion)
- sleek and astonishing
- touch-style buttons that light up when you use them, and fade when you don't

Cons: - GLOSSY SCREEN
(Ok that's not really a con, but it is if you have your PC in a room with lots of windows. You will see yourself in the screen with such clarity during certain times of the day, that you can't focus on anything.)

Other Thoughts: Look in Google Images "glossy screen monitor" and you will know what I'm talking about. It can drive some people crazy.

4 out of 5 eggsPhenomenal monitor for the price!

This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: 27 inches of IPS screen
Great looking and solid industrial design
Images "pop"
A lot sharper image quality than I expected

Cons: No HDMI cable
Glossy screen
Front panel impossible to find without reading manual

Other Thoughts: It's only 1080p, but that doesn't matter in this case. Images are sharp and text is crisp. No dead/stuck pixels. The specs say only 7ms, but I have encountered no ghosting during gaming. I couldn't find the front panel for the first 5 minutes as it completely disappears, and only appears when you touch it. I haven't played with HP's software yet, but I will today. I bought from a big box retailer for once since they had it locally for the same price.

The only thing that could make this better is a higher resolution. This is a bargain... one great monitor.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat upgrade from 23"

This review is from: HP Pavilion 27xi Silver / Black 27" 7ms IPS HDMI LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 10,000,000:1

Pros: I was previously using a 23" Samsung 1080 television (x2) for my monitors. Picked up the HP 27xi on sale and it has been a great upgrade and the colors now "pop"!

Cons: none so far.
