1 out of 5 eggsWould not Recommend

Pros: It is very portable and is easy to carry. It folds up in a nice folder style case.

Cons: USB interface is horrible. My Wife uses this for spreadsheet. The screen size doesn't stay constant. If you use recommended screen size graphics are distorted. It works bad with both Internal Intel Graphics Chipset along with an Nvidia card. This should have been designed with Display Link or HDMI because the USB driver is not even published by HP.

Other Thoughts: I wish I could return this and get my $$ back or rate it as 0eggs since I now own it. Shipping and delivery from New Egg was excellent.

1 out of 5 eggsDisposable Item / HP will not repair

Pros: Nice in theory, works well when it works.

Cons: Monitor broke. Spoke with HP. This is a disposable unit. They won't repair it. Less than one year of use. It's a $100 paperweight. Unfortunate that HP has no means to repair screen, even with charges to customer.

2 out of 5 eggsNot entirely satisfied

Pros: Usable monitor that does actually work and display decent image, considering you're usring a USB.

Cons: Doesn't sync with the BIOS, meaning you remove the option of modifying anything with it and are forced to simply use the computer for little else other than logging into your operating system. For the average user, I don't see this being a problem, but if you're doing something like overclocking your CPU, you might have issues with what would otherwise be a minor quirk.

Other Thoughts: I use the monitor pretty much as a secondary for my laptop, when I do use it. It's fairly useful in that regard. I give it two eggs, simply because it doesn't do what I had expected it to do initially, but that could also be due to a lack of proper and thorough research on my part prior to making the purchase. However, I was moderately disappointed with the product, which is why it received such a low rating.

4 out of 5 eggsNice addition to my new tablet

Pros: Good design - ultra lightweight and stylish monitor/case. It feels a bit like carrying around an empty box but looks more like an artists folio.

Decent picture - 720p resolution (highest available on usb 2.0) is sufficient for my purposes. The color depth is actually better than what I expected from a 5 watt, portable monitor. The brightness adjustment is also a big plus.

Compatibility - So far I have it working under windows 7 and windows 8.1 without any problem. I just downloaded a driver, ran the install and plugged it in.

Efficient - 5 watts is not much much of a power draw, but what I'm really impressed with is how effectively the tiny tablet's CPU can feed the monitor. I'd say the display link software has improved dramatically since the last time I've used it.

Cons: Size - As thin as it is, itt's actually a bit thicker than I expected. The incredibly low weight leads me to believe that much of the internal casing is empty. This is a serious wasted opportunity. A battery pack, or card reader, or just simple cable storage could fit into this space and make the device all the more appealing.

Outdated Driver - I did try to install the driver from the media only to have it tell me it was incompatible with my version of windows. A simple download fixed the problem, but still.

Price - Full price would be a bit steep for what you are getting. That said I got it deeply discounted and it was worth it.

Viewing angles - the viewing angles (particularly horizontal) are not great. Honestly I think we're just spoiled by IPS displays; but if you're going to use this, you're going to want to be directly in front of it.

Other Thoughts: As I mentioned above I'm using this on a dell venue 8 pro via OTG cable with a 1 amp 5 volt USB "power brick" on the power only side of the split USB cable. Combined with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard I can effectively turn my 8 inch tablet into a 15.6 inch laptop.

Performance doesn't seem to suffer much either. The few light games I have on the tablet (solitaire, terraria, don't starve) run smoothly. Streaming video also did not stutter in my short test.

4 out of 5 eggsvery nice!

Pros: I ordered this because I'm a trk driver and it's hard to use a heavy laptop on a pull-out desk when co-driver is driving.
I play Civ 5 a lot and was concerned about other people's reviews about resolution.

Pros: the hard leather case w/ magnetic clasp is high quality. $50+ value for the case alone!
The monitor is a very good quality and not too heavy- maybe about the weight of an iPad. No probs w/ resolution- civ 5 looks great on it!

Cons: Cons: it's a lot of work to send game to that monitor and keep it there. I have to go thru a series of alt-tabs and opening-closing laptop lid for it to finally work right. Not taking off an egg for that- it may just be my laptop and/or game engine.

SHORT wires. I had hopes of keeping laptop in back of trk and setting screen up front where I can play from passenger seat. Not even close. It's going to take two long USB extensions if it's going to work. Taking off an egg for that.

Other Thoughts: Still glad I bought it! Wife was skeptical when box arrived but was amazed when saw quality of case and monitor. Very good value here!

2 out of 5 eggsCHIPSET specific

Pros: It is well built, I am not a die hard HP customer but they obviously can produce quality electronics and inks worth their weight in gold. I purchased for the obvious reason, portability and it is all that. The case is sturdy, and seconds as a stand.

Cons: They point this out up front, the low resolution. Looking at a HD screen for hours a day and then working with this monitor as an extended desktop while using my laptop is a little disappointing and makes the resolution that much more notice able.
I maintain 3 personal laptops, one for work, second as work back-up and personal us while traveling for work, third for portability at home, shop and lake. They get knocked down a position every two years. This was purchased for laptop 2, and worked wonderfully on the Dell 1525 Core Duo. Not long after that a new laptop took over the #1 position and my former workhorse Dell Inspiron N7110 inherited this HP U160. Still fighting it days later. the Inspiron does not like the display drivers at all. In my investigating I found that there are one or more Intel chipsets that are NOT compatible with said drivers. The chipset does not appear to be my issue and my search continues.

Other Thoughts: Newegg..... this is the very first time you have left me disappointed. Something about the chipset incompatibility should have been listed in large print or at least listed.
For testing purposes the monitor was reunited with it's first mate and still functions properly. I will continue my effort to enable it for use with the i5 gen 2 and post my findings here for no one to ever read.
I purchased from Newegg Flash, will I be marked as a verified owner? lets find out together.
IF your in a pinch and really need portable monitor, you have the compatibility for it and it is on sale, I recommend purchasing it. Disappointment will haunt you otherwise.
I am patiently waiting for the High Def Asus version to make the leap from a nerds dream and onto the store shelf.

2 out of 5 eggsQuality Control Issues

Pros: Great display capable of being powered over one USB port. The leather case is solid, looks good, feels good, and couples as a stand. Despite the lower resolution, it still looks good at closer viewing distance. Viewing angle hasn't been an issue either.

Cons: I had another branded portable monitor in my hands before and it had a small sleeve in the hinge to carry the USB cable. This one does not.

Quality control seems to be an issue.
-I would love to give this monitor four or five stars but I just cannot with the issues I've run into with quality.

My company ordered 22 of these monitors. Out of those 22, 15 of them had display defects. Not stuck or dead pixels, but display distortion. The defects I'm referring to are mostly around the edges. It looks almost like water damage or like a mirror that fogged up and water started to run down the edges. I really don't know how best to describe it.

On top of that, we just got our replacement shipment and the very first one I opened up had the same issue. I really don't feel like opening up the other 14 to find out how many more of them are defective. I will eventually have to I'm sure, but at this point I really question the quality control of this product. The boxes are all in pristine condition so I'm very confident that this is not a shipping issue. I wouldn't rule out storage issues but I honestly believe its a manufacturing issue coupled with poor quality control.

The defects I describe do not hinder the functionality of the display, just the appearance. So if you don't care about weird splatter marks on your desktop and file windows, you should be fine.

Other Thoughts: Apart from the defects I'm happy with the 7 that don't look like they are defective. I have one that I carry around with me when I'm traveling and the leather casing is superb, it kicks right on and despite lower resolution, it looks good.

5 out of 5 eggsReturns

Pros: Holycow! Had a problem with my new HP U160 (no display) and NEWEGG replaced it--no questions asked. And it arrived ASAP...This it the reason my company does bz with these dudes (and duddettes)!

Cons: Well, I did have a problem with the display, but not NEWEGG's problem!

Other Thoughts: Keep up the great work, y'all!

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: -Worked with both my Sager laptop at home, and Lenovo ThinkPad at work.
-USB powered, easy to install with DisplayLink drivers.
-Very thin/lite, easily fits in my laptop bag.

Cons: -Its not the best screen, I would not recommend this for HD movies (resolution is too low). Viewing angle is average, not great.
-The cover converts to a stand so you'll need significant additional desks space, you might not be able to fit this and a laptop in a smaller cubicle. The ideal design for space optimization would be a removable cover and a small plastic stand that flips out from the back.

Other Thoughts: I had read in reviews of other products where it states that USB monitors in general have a display lag issue. I have not noticed that with this monitor, but I have not done thorough testing so I cannot say for sure. For me its been a great purchase for home and work. Ideally I would have wanted a 1600x900 resolution to match up with my ThinkPad, but 1366 x 768 resolution is adequate for what I need. If you are an IT consultant like me stuck with a single 14" screen, this is a lifesaver. Also if you have to do a presentation in a smaller room with no projector, you can share your screen without having to turn your laptop around. However, the hybrid cover/stand design might take up too much desk space depending on your working environment.

5 out of 5 eggsNice monitor

Pros: Good quality build, easy to install with HP drivers (HP Version of DisplayLink drivers). Easy to use as extended desktop or dual-display. Driver lets you easily choose where to extend desktop (left, top, right, etc.). Light weight and portable and fits in my backpack for travel.

Cons: Documentation not very good. Driver documentation from DisplayLink provides better understanding of limitations and usage than HP's documentation. No explaination of when to use two USB connections for power vs. using only one. (I'm using one on an HP Pavilion DM1z with success.)
