Nice monitor for the price
- Pros: Nice colors, sharp. No dead pixels. Separate audio input for both video inputs - not all monitors do this, nice for dual PC setups. 1920 x 1200 adds around an inch and a half of more vertical resolution, nice. As someone mentioned in another review, portrait mode is suddenly a lot more functional than 16x9 monitors.
The screen is very bright, but....
- Cons: ...but the brightness causes the contrast to be too much. You may lose light gray to white, and dark gray to black. This loss of detail does diminish when the contrast and brightness are set correctly (vs. the out of the box settings) but then the screen is a lot darker than I would like.
Speakers in it are poor, but sadly, not the worst I've heard. They get reasonably loud without distorting.
- Other Thoughts: I wish this had HDMI, it would be a 5 star monitor (again relative to the price)
Best monitor in this price range by far
- Pros: This is the only 1920 pixel wide monitor in this price range that has 1200 pixels of vertical resolution, the rest are all 1920x1080. The extra vertical screen real estate makes this monitor far more useable. 1920x1080 monitors are crippling, because almost everything scrolls vertically not horizontally.
The 24" diagonal size of this monitor is awesome. Hits the sweet spot in price, 25"+ suddenly become much more expensive. Don't go with anything less if you can afford the extra $50-70 over a 21-22" monitor.
Beautiful image (seriously, I'm really impressed at the image quality, I'm a techie and really picky), bright colors, relatively crisp display even through an analog connection (no DVI out on my laptop to test a digital connection with, but the OSD is of course perfectly crisp).
Solid construction, metal stand, attractive shiny finish on bezel and stand. Touch-sensitive controls.
Overall this monitor is as good as monitors that cost 50% more.
- Cons: One dead/stuck pixel (glowing cyan). You can only see it against a black background. It gets brighter if something white crosses the same column the pixel is in, so it is probably a short circuit between the blue/green pixel channels and the column selector line. I'm a monitor snob so this is annoying, their dead pixel policy requires 8 dead pixels for a return. Still, this problem is mitigated by the fact that most of the time I use programs (e.g. browsers) with a white background, when the dead pixel is not visible.
The monitor image is not quite centered in the bezel, cutting off about two pixel rows off the top. Not sure if I should open it up, void the warranty and correct the problem, it's not super noticeable but a little annoying. Actually the opening in the bezel might even be smaller vertically than the total vertical screen size by about one pixel. Most people probably wouldn't even notice..
The glossy bezel and stand pick up fingerprints really easily.
- Other Thoughts: Overall, despite the stuck pixel and the image centering problem, I'm going to give this 5 stars, because those problems are niggly and overall I am not just stunned but shocked that such a good monitor is available at such a low price. When I bought this monitor, it was the only one available anywhere near this price that supported 1920x1200, and took a risk on it because there were no reviews of the monitor here. Overall I am more than happy with the monitor at this price.
I might even buy a rotating stand so I can use the monitor in portrait mode. 1080x1920 isn't really usable (not wide enough) but 1200x1920 certainly is. That should revolutionize my coding and web browsing. (Seriously, why do people use wide screen monitors in landscape mode when most of the time, they're not watching movies but instead using vertically-scrolling documents??)
Nice Monitor
- Pros: VESA Mount, Great color, no dead pixels
- Cons: no calibration software
- Other Thoughts: Good price, seem solid. I have tv tuner card, displays hd great.
