1 out of 5 eggs2 years to the garbage can

Pros: The pros are irrelevant.

Cons: I don't normally write reviews. I'm taking my time to hopefully save you from purchasing a 2 year throw away projector. I used this projector a few times a week to watch movies. The first bad pixel wont be your last. Optoma does not stand behind their product. If you want to purchase this projector, first try to get in touch with Optoma. When you can't, trust me this will be trash in two years.

Pros: Was a beautiful picture until the pixels started turning black & white.

Cons: Pixel failure due to a bad DMD chip, I understand. Optoma does not answer their email requests for help. Used very little over the 2 years I have had it. Very disappointing product.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable & Great 1st Projector

Pros: I bought this projector from newegg November, 2011 to replace my broken CRT Tv. After the first week of learning how to tweak the video settings, I got the best possible picture on my wall. Ever since then I have fallen in love with this thing. I use my 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U, PC, PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube, NES, SNES, Genesis, and my cable box with no problems at all.

-After more than a year, averaging 9 hours of use a day (dead serious), I have logged 3800 hours and this projector works just as well as the day I bought it.

-Easy to use and setup

- Does not make a lot of noise. (With surround sound you will never notice it)

-I tend to watch Tv until I fall asleep around 2am or so. With the sleep function, I don't have to worry about leaving it on.

Cons: -In some situations you may notice the outside border of the projector screen (not the picture image) to be in the shape of a trapezoid. Some owners know what I am talking about.

-Don't expect to try the 3D option out. I am a IT professional so I know a bit about computers, but this projector was not intended for 3D use, but that never bothered me.

-Zoom could have a larger range.

Other Thoughts: Some people tend to forget that projectors collect a lot of dust over time both around the fan vents and around the perimeter. Dead pixels and ruining the life of your projector is mainly caused by poor ventilation and over heating. I vacuum the dust around my projector whenever I do my normal housecleaning, and I have never had any of the problems some people claim to have.

So remember IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR PROJECTOR TO DIE, CLEAN THE DUST OFF EVERY SO OFTEN!! A clean projector is a happy projector!

1 out of 5 eggsShould be pulled from the market

Pros: Nice image for 720p

Cons: As it is noted from the hundreds of posts from around the web, the optoma hd66 has major sensor malfunctions after the year mark. It seems the thermal cooling pads they use become dry and useless and the sensor begins to fry. Dead pixels abound.

Other Thoughts: Avoid. If this came with a 3 year warranty it would be worth the price. But at around $600, you are going to flush your cash down the toilet after just a short time. Don't be suckered into an extended warranty either. It can't be fixed and you'll get a lowball offer check. Sold mine as broken on E/bay for $125.

2 out of 5 eggsWait, don't die yet!

Pros: Man I enjoyed this projector while it lasted. Its super bright, I've been able to adjust the colors to get white on even colored walls, its tiny, and the throw is huge. Currently have it calibrated to a 91' projection screen, but had it about a foot larger when throwing to the wall from the same installation position.

Cons: NO HORIZONTAL KEYSTONE: Upon purchase I found I was upset it only had vertical keystoning. I previously owned a projector that had horizontal keystoning so you could set the projector off to the side instead of finding a place directly centered across from the screen. I have adapted but it was a feature I will certainly look for specifically next time.

DEAD PIXELS: And now, about a year and a half later after purchase, with 2-6 hours of use a week, I saw my first dead pixel like a bright little star in the corner. In the past two weeks it has multiplied to about seven bright pixels and 3 black pixels all in the top right hand quadrant. I imagine its only going to continue to get worse. Newegg reviews and other websites confirm this happens to DLP projectors on occasion, and there's nothing to be done. Definitely is happening to mine, am kicking myself for not getting Newegg's 2 year warranty.

Other Thoughts: It had the rainbow effect common to DLP, but I rarely notice unless I'm watching movies with subtitles where my eyes flicker a lot more.

The dying pixels are deeply depressing. I myself can adapt but it sure will be obnoxious to any friends we've invited over for movies. Had we not JUST been gifted an indoor/outdoor projection screen, I'd seriously consider going to a high res flatscreen. Now we'll try to get the most out of it before the whole viewing screen becomes covered in constellations... I really loved the projector up until now.

I gave my parents my old previous LCD projector... though they use it less its been running strong for 4 years on the original bulb. Will probably go back to that technology when this one bites it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Projector!

Pros: Great price
HD Quality Picture
Low Noise

Cons: An image burnt into the picture, but you only see it when you fire up the projector. When the projector gets fully turned on the picture goes away and it isn't an issue.

Other Thoughts: This is the first projector I have ever bought. After 18 months it still runs great and I get lots of compliments of how good the picture looks even at such a large size (120"-130"). I play xBox, watch Blu-Rays, and normal television and it's fantastic. I paid significantly less for the projector, mount, and screen than I would have for a large flat screen TV. When I buy a second TV, it will definitely be this projector instead of a traditional box set.

1 out of 5 eggs6 Dead Pixels in 1.3333 Years

Pros: When it worked, it was great.

Cons: After one year and four months, six pixels have died. Strangely, they seemed to be dying in rapid succession (within two weeks).

Other Thoughts: One year warranty...hmmm...

1 out of 5 eggs2 years later...

Pros: Great value for 720p

Cons: After 2 years 3 white pixel sized dots started appearing all of the screen. A google search bring up that many other users start getting the same issue after 1.5 years of use and the issue is suspected to be a faulty image chip.

I think it kinda of ridiculous that the projector is having pixel failures still on its first lamp.

I will not buy a Optoma projector again.

3 out of 5 eggsDead Pixels?

Pros: Good quality, particularly in HD. Somewhat easy to use, I haven't used the 3D.

Cons: I have owned this projector for about 3 weeks, I have used it regularly. Yesterday a big white and black spot appeared in one of the corners in addition to a few horizontal and vertical lines. The projector was awesome up until this happened. I'm sending it back for replacement today. Hopefully the next one doesn't give me any trouble

5 out of 5 eggsWow AMAZING

Pros: So I, LIKE YOU, was reading reviews on this before I bought it. Let me say, the reviews are true, it is worth WAAAY more then a 600 dollar pricetag. I play Bluerays and Call of Duty 3, Skyrim, on a PLAIN wall and it blows my mind and my friends. I have a screen inbound.

Cons: Menu and otions can be a little confusing at first.

Other Thoughts: Best bang for the buck...period.. END of story
