5 out of 5 eggsIncredible picture for 1080p

Pros: - So bright I don't even need a projector screen. I just point it at the wall from about 15' away and I get about a 113" wide screen. (that's actual width, not the diagonal measurement).
- The remote buttons are backlit with bright blue LED for a couple seconds once a button is pressed which is really good for dark home theater rooms.
- You can go into the menu and flip the image up side down and adjust for lack of a better word "the amount of rhombus shape" you want your image to be projected in, which is good for projecting from a high angle or if your mount is slightly off center.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: I have been using this projector for a little over 2 weeks now.
So far: I have played several blue rays, hours of Destiny on PS4, and browsed the web/streamed episodes off my Zotac MiniPC.

I am thoroughly impressed. No lag on FPS games, and I still haven't seen the "Rainbow effect." The blacks are rich and super dark. I couldn't be happier. EXCELLENT!!

I have the projector mounted from the ceiling about 20feet or more from the wall. (Using: Siig CE-MT0X12-s1 Universal Ceiling Projector Mount - 7.9, available on Newegg) Right now I am projecting at about 156" wide. At this width you MUST have 720p or better, obviously 1080p would be better.

Cons: There are limited audio out ports.

Other Thoughts: BUY THIS BEFORE THEY GO AWAY...and at the current price, they may.

3 out of 5 eggsBeautiful color, ease of use, Bulb burned out after 10 months

Pros: Picture quality is perfect. Colors are perfect. Brightness works well for my 4'x6' screen 15 feet away, could easily go further/larger.

Cons: Using low power, as recommended for longer bulb life, the bulb burned out at less than 400 hours of use. I have used it maybe once every other day for 2 hours, and despite the projector having a built in cooling system for the bulb after the projector is switched off, it still burned out. Newegg won't cover it, neither will the manufacturer. Trying extended warranty now. New bulb is ~$150 plus install.

Other Thoughts: I read all of the reviews and did my homework. Hopefully this was just a bad bulb. I got the extended warranty to cover other problems, I didn't think I'd need a new bulb this early.

2 out of 5 eggsAfter 5 months it won't power on

Pros: Beautiful Display
Large screen size over a short throw distance

Cons: Short lifespan. After 5 months of limited use it refuses to power on.

Only reliable after initial repair.

Other Thoughts: It's worked perfectly for these past months, but on attempting to power up today (after 5 months) it stalls out before lighting the bulb. If left to attempt long enough it eventually gives a red bulb light. It should be several thousand hours away from a blow out, and didn't yield any sort of sign of problems on last use.

This is my second time an Optoma unit has done this. The first time was within about the same amount of time. I had to pay to ship it out to them, replace a faulty fan, and replace the bulb last time this happened. The entire process took about 4 weeks.

After paying to repair my new projector last time it ended up lasting another 5 years before needing a replace. It's a good idea to consider these costs as additional fees on purchase of this product.

Still not a horrible price for the product.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: 1. Light and small
2. Low noise
3. Got it on sale for much cheaper!
4. Nice and bright
5. Picture quality is awesome

I was using it on a wall with light yellowish paint. It looked pretty nice, I thought. When I put up a 120" screen, I was blown away by the picture quality. My wallpaper has my daughter at the beach. You can see every grain of sand that is on her hands. The brightness is very nice. I have it setup in the basement which has 3 windows on the opposite wall from the screen. With the blinds open in the middle of a sunny afternoon and I can still see the picture decently enough. Closing the blinds made the viewing perfect. At night time, we play games on it with all basement lights on. The picture is still very clear.

I don't get the over heating issue; distorted/fuzzy areas; or rainbow effects reported by other owners. Maybe they got a lemon... I'm just glad mine isn't because I'm loving this thing.

Cons: Loses audio sometimes requiring me to switch HDMI 1 to 2, then back. I think this happens when the projector is turned on after the pc/xbox is already on. Or maybe it was turned on before... Anyway, it's a minor issue.

1 out of 5 eggsFailed product and customer service at Optoma

Pros: Relatively cheap for a 1080p projector

Cons: The quality of this projector is horrible! I have 2 other friends who have the previous model and they both confirmed that Optoma has dropped the ball on this model completely!

Other Thoughts: Short version: Failed product and more important Failed Customer Service at Optoma! They lost me as a customer forever!
Long version: I bought HD141X project in late Oct 2014 as I was rebuilding my basement and wanted to setup a home theater while at it. I connected the project at the end of Jan 2015 and it gave me over heat warning after only running for 15 minutes. After about an hour of running it would turn off.
I called Optoma customer service on end of January and their representative, Mike, could not care less about my issue. He did not even attempt to troubleshoot and all he could say in a monotone voice "send it in and we will let you know". The projector was less than 3 months old and they would not even entertain the idea of a replacement.
It took three days after my initial call for service for them to create a RMA order. I shipped it and tracking showed Optoma received it, but I did not receive any notice from Optoma for additional three days. I called them again and Mike confirmed over the phone that they have it. When I hung up with Mike I then received an email confirmation. Two weeks go by and no updates. I again called them and I was told that the main board is on back order, information I could have used yesterday! I ask for a status of when it will be available and the respond is “we don’t know”. I ask for replacement again, “we will let you know”. This went one for another week and then I called again and was told on Friday that they are not working on a refurbished replacement. I called again next Thursday and no update. Called again Friday and manager of their service department has approved the refurbished replacement. Another week goes by and I called next Thursday and the projector has not shipped still. It is now March 20th and I still don’t have my projector.
A product can be defective, it can fail and it can be repaired, but at the end of the day when customer service at this company OPTOMA just sucks it completely fails the customers’ expectation. If a company like Optoma does not stand behind their product and customer service, then they have lost my business forever! I am sure there are many out there who have had better experience with Optoma product, but my experience with their customer service was the worst of its kind.
Good luck to those who will continue to buy Optoma product. I hope your experience is a lot better than mine.

1 out of 5 eggsOne of the worst purchases ever.

Pros: Great picture when it works.

Cons: Terrible unit that freezes every time I use it. It is the most frustrating thing. I will be using it for 1/2 hour and go to shut it off and the remote will not work. Come to find out, it cannot be turned off on the control panel either. Finally the unit will go dark for no reason and fail to turn on. Bad news.

Other Thoughts: Avoid at all costs.
