5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: The colors on this thing are amazing. Definitely puts others to shame in most categories.
The size is perfect for office use, 1080p at 23.6" is a really good size for people of all ages.
We've gotten over 20 of these for people and only had one that died after a few weeks, RMA was not too difficult to do and got a new one within a week or two.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend this over any other monitor in this range, the combination of ports/size/price/height/swivel/tilt make this thing the best buy i've found in a long time.
Even our power users who are used to 1920x1200 monitors are happy with these since the pixels are bigger and the users are typically older (hard to see).

4 out of 5 eggsamazing monitor

Pros: Just gotta love ASUS products, never fail to work properly out of box without hassle. I know it's just a monitor, but it's pretty.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally!

Pros: Finally a monitor with height adjustment that travels accross a broad range. This thing gets so high my wife has to get a ladder to lower it. I am very tall and sitting at the desk I am currently using was killing my neck when viewing my old 22" Samsung. This thing gets up to a more than comfortable range for anyone out their who is over 6' 5" or so. The color is wonderful and the performance in gaming is superb. Definite must have for general user or hard core gamers.

Cons: Not really a con but I don't believe that monitor speakers will ever be worth mentioning in the advertisement for a monitor.

Other Thoughts: First experience with ASUS displays and they did not dissappoint. Thanks ASUS.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: The height adjustment is VERY useful. I have taken this monitor on 2 trips out of town and it helps keep the monitor at a good position. The screen is matte and there are less fingerprints and reflections. ASUS is a maker of high quality items. Great for watching video. No dead or stuck pixels.

Cons: The bezel is glossy and attracts fingerprints and dust. The buttons are sometimes hard to press, but you will get used to them after a bit. i know both of these going in and they are minor cons. The pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Other Thoughts: I would buy another one of these in an instant.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Bargain

Pros: Great price, viewing adjustability, input flexibility, speakers.

Cons: On-screen Menu is a bit annoying to get used to navigating, but not impossible.

Other Thoughts: 1 of 3 ordered just showed an on-again off-again fading of the reds. Thought it was cable because wiggling the cable corrected the issue. But that was only temporary. Issue is more persistent, and even when removing the DVI cable, fuzzy color is apparent in the "No Signal" message that appears on the screen.

Called ASUS support, option 2, option 4. Explained my discovery of the problem in about 30 seconds, technician agreed that it sounded like the monitor. Had RMA information for me in less than 2 minutes.

So while I experienced an issue, I'm so far extremely pleased with the support, especially how easy and fast it was.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, except for viewing angle.

Pros: No dead pixels, fast response, plenty of features.

Cons: Viewing angle is much less than specified. Color shifting is high when viewed outside of 90° vertical or horizontal.
170°(H) / 160°(V) is quite an exaggeration. This is fine for single-user situations, but makes for a poor TV replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsOk screen, very bad build quality and died 3 months in

Pros: Decent screen, price.

Cons: Bought it for a decent screen, 3rd monitor. It was ok at that, the viewing angle was not awesome in portrait mode, but that was expected at this price. What was not was pushing the menu button after about 2 months of ownership and having it pop inside the monitor, making the button totally useless.

The 2nd thing I did not expect was for the monitor after 3 months to start going squiggly after about 10 minutes of being on, no matter what cable/mode/computer I used, even unplugged from the computer and just powered on, then it will go to a black and white swirl forever, where the only way to fix it is to turn it off, wait 10 minutes, then use for 10 minutes. So basically my copy sucked, the monitor is a cheap-o and I did not expect greatness, but I won't not have expected it to fall apart and fail so soon, and this review is based on the copy I purchased from Newegg

Other Thoughts: I'd but another monitor after this, but duh after the review.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS VH242HL-P Black 23.6

Pros: > height & swivel
> price
> bezel is thin and black
> glossy

Cons: > panel technology

Other Thoughts: > get an (S)uper IPS panel if you can afford it. There are a couple out there that are just a couple hundred dollars more for the same size as this lcd and they have recently improved the response time (ms) for the SIPS panels as compared to later models.

1 out of 5 eggsNever again.

Pros: Looks pretty nice when it's working.

Cons: I bought 2 of these. One works fine, the other would sometimes not power on. After struggling with it, I sent it to repair.

They will not repair your monitor and send it back - they send another one they've repaired using whatever packaging the customer sent them. The monitor arrived with barely any packaging so the monitor was flopping around inside. The bezel broken on 2 corners. I called, rather irate, and they provided a FedEx Ground label for me to send it back.

The second replacement monitor arrived yesterday WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. Poor packaging, so the monitor was damaged.

I called their "support" line again, and explained that I sent them a monitor that looked absolutely brand new and they're sending me junk. Isn't it about time they replace it with a brand new monitor? The answer: "We're just a repair facility. We don't have any new monitors to replace it with." Asus doesn't even handle their own repairs themselves. They've outsourced it.

Other Thoughts: If you get a working monitor, consider yourself fortunate. I wouldn't wish their support on my worst enemy, and my saga isn't even over yet. I've had ViewSonic, Acer, Samsung, Dell, Haans and some others and haven't ever had a single problem.

Learn from my extremely bad experience - pick anyone but Asus. Their reputation isn't what it used to be.

3 out of 5 eggsSlightly under-impressed

Pros: Stand is nice if, you need it. The gloss finish and overall look is nice.

Cons: Everything is just mediocre, the viewing angle, display quality, text visibility... all just sorta "OK". Not horrible, but I guess I was expecting better. I keep playing with the settings trying to make it better. I can't find any setting that makes me really happy. The menu is also very poorly designed and annoying to use.

Other Thoughts: I got this to upgrade my Chimei 22" (1680x1050) monitor that I have used since 2006. It really doesn't seem like an upgrade at all. My main beef is the 16:9 aspect ratio, which makes no sense to use on computer monitors to me (but it sadly seems to be the new trend). The width to height ratio is way too high. This is actually 1/8th inch smaller height wise compared to my old 22". I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, but I cannot get adjusted to it. I thought that a 1080 23.6" would be slightly taller than a 1050 22", even given the fact that is was 16:9, but no.. Newegg's measurement line in the picture is a little misleading, the viewing area itself is only 11.5" tall. For browsing and text work, this ratio is bad. Vertical comparison is better than horizontal comparison I need more height to view lines of code and stack windows. I also don't find it good for gaming, about the only thing 16:9 is good for is movies. Spend $100 more and get a 16:10 1920x1200 monitor!!
