2 out of 5 eggs2nd thoughts

Pros: Cheap. Crisp text and images.

Cons: Stand is bad .... REALLY bad. Brightness and contrast controls will not remain where set. Manual ... what manual?

Other Thoughts: Have been using this monitor for about one week. Almost decided to send it back after the first few days. The stand is pure junk. (Newegg wouldn't let me use the word I wanted to use here) You cannot even turn the power on without thinking it's going to tip over. I finally got in the habit of holding it on the top, to keep it stable, while I pushed the power button. This also holds true when you attempt to use any of the control buttons - - brightness, contrast, setup, etc.

This thing is bright - - I mean BRIGHT. I have to set the brightness control to 30-40 (out of 100) and the contrast down to at least 75 to keep it from blinding me. HOWEVER .... these settings don't stay. I haven't determined yet if they re-set every time it's repowered or if they creep back up incrementally, but I have to re-set them every few days. And using any of those buttons is a PIA - - did I mention the junky (censored again) stand?

The "manual" is a joke. One large sheet of paper with about a zillion languages on it. Choose any one language and the "manual" could be reduced to a 3" x 5" index card. Useless. Any adjustments I learned have been by trial and error and some of those trials have been very frustrating. I hooked it up via DVI and once, somehow, ???, switched it to HDMI. It promptly told me there was no input and shut off. Powered up and got the same warning and shut down. Took forever to fix and how that fix happened is still a mystery to me.

Speaking of inputs ... I got this monitor because my wife has been thinking she might like a computer of her own. I thought that this monitor with HDMI, DVI, and D-sub would be perfect ... I could hook up two computers with KVM switches and be good to go with whatever computer might be added. Apparently that won't be possible ... not if you have to manually re-set the input setting every time you want to switch. I don't want to fight those not-user-friendly control buttons and I think my wife would get so frustrated she would throw the monitor against the wall.

As I said in the beginning, I almost decided to return this monitor. But I am SLOWLY adjusting to it ..... but I may still decide to return to my old ViewSonic and donate to this one Goodwill for the tax write-off. I would hesitate recommending this monitor unless you fully understand its limitations.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy!

Pros: Very bright! colors are fantastic. I've owned this for over a year now and I have yet to find a dead pixel.

Cons: Semi wobbly on stand. i.e if you bump your desk you will see the monitor slightly wobble

Other Thoughts: Would very much recommend. Playing competitive shooters like CSGO and COD are great on this monitor - fantastic response time.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat monitors

Pros: Excellent color and response. Multiple inputs - DVI, HDMI, DSub. I had replaced 1 of my 4:3 with this model in 2013. I was very pleased with the monitor and purchased a second one about a year later.

Cons: None I can think of. Unless you are looking for speakers (none on this model).

4 out of 5 eggsSave this monitor for them young chaps

Pros: Great display, colors, etc, solidly built monitor. Some of the cords seemed a bit short but still worked for me.

Cons: For those who have seasoned eyes... I had to bump down the resolution to 1440x900 to make it readable, due to the small physical screen size.

- Typical LCD: Once the monitor isn't running at native resolution it gets slightly blurry, but still very usable. Not surprising, most monitors do this when not at a native resolution.

- The on-screen size feels small when bumping down the resolution.

Other Thoughts: Get a 23' or higher monitor if you are older or need any help reading text on screen.

4 out of 5 eggsAsus has improved in the last four years

Pros: -Matte coat has pretty good consistency, there are very few shades I see disconformities during video panning with.
-Didn't arrive with any dead / stuck pixels and hasn't developed any within the first month of use.
-Unlike a lot of previous Asus monitors I've used, the srgb preset is pretty good, feels relatively balanced and I can see the differences in shade of the whole grayscale rgb range with that preset.
-Asus's on screen display is pretty solid in options, but at this point is feeling dated compared to OSD in competitors monitors, such as Benq.
-The connections are oriented to face toward the back of the monitor rather than bottom. I find this to be convenient for quick setup, but may be a problem for someone looking to vesa mount one of these monitors.
-I've yet to notice any ghosting.

Cons: -The monitor I received does have edge bleed, though is only noticeable in use on the left side, which has five areas that jut out by close to half an inch. Its only noticeable with shades near to black (most grays unaffected). This edge bleed usually only catches the eye with dark vertical panning video.

Other Thoughts: I bought this monitor to replace an Asus VH226H that I had bought back in 2011 and had used for around three years until its CCFL backlight went out. As a successor to that, the VS228H-P has improved in almost every way, the only exception being its edge bleed characteristics, which are little more irritating.

2 out of 5 eggsScreen Started Glitching after 1 Month, Broke after 6 Months

Pros: Looked great, supports HDMI, DVI, and VGA. Not a bad price
($140 when I bought it). I would say it's a great monitor but...

Cons: 1 Month (maybe a little less) of owning the monitor, the screen started... glitching. What I mean by that is that there was a 2"x1" rectangle made of squares that flashed radically 80% of the time the monitor was on. It drove me crazy but I just dealt with it (To this day I don't know who I just let it sit there without doing anything. After that time, the RMA expired, so I couldn't get a free replacement). After about 6 months, the monitor flat out stopped working and I tried hooking it up to other computers and trying different inputs, but nothing. The monitor just wouldn't recognize anything that was plugged into it. Like I said before, the RMA was long expired, so I couldn't get a replacement for my clearly defective unit. I HIGHLY urge people to watch out and think twice about purchasing this monitor. I say just go with a different monitor or brand altogether like Acer.

Other Thoughts: Mine didn't come with a DVI cable, (the page says it does) which wasn't a big deal as I used HDMI, but who doesn't want a free DVI cable? I find them useful for older monitors.

5 out of 5 eggsgood for the price

Pros: good screen for the price, looks very nice. good colors, I think

Cons: as the description tells you, it's only 60 hz, and only 21.5 inches, and only 5 ms. id HIGHLY recommend spending the extra $100-$150 to get a 24 inch 1ms 144hz. the bezel is kind of thick so it probably wouldn't be the best choice for a 3 screen setup to game on.
