2 out of 5 eggsWas good for two months

Pros: I got this monitor as a downsize from a HP lp2475w (which I bought for almost nothing), partly because I thought at the time a smaller monitor would be less cumbersome. The color is impressive, though it involves a bit of tinkering if you're meticulous (check other reviews). That said, it's ideal for certain images.

The pivot/swivel works pretty seamlessly too. Also, for the connectors on the back, you're getting a nice deal here.

Cons: Oh boy, where to begin. The speakers are awful, but no one buys these for the speakers right?

The color options don't really seem to change much, or lack the ability to be precise (a bit too plain for the price and intent of the monitor). I imagine many people buying a monitor like this NEED precision with color that they see.

Why the 2 eggs out of 5, you might wonder? Well only a few months in, I suddenly had a red tint appear on the right side of the screen (red lines moving under the screen to be exact). I checked with several different connectors, cables weren't an issue (HDMI, DP, DVI). I tried the laptop on a friend's monitor, no red tint there!

Ultimately it seemed something internal in the monitor was failing. As I write, I'm seeming the same red tint on the right side of the monitor.

Other Thoughts: Ultimately I switched back to the HP lp2475w. It's just not easy to lose the screen real estate from 24" to 23", and it might seem ridiculous, but it's noticeable. Plus, the old HP just can connect to anything.

Despite the 2 eggs, I didn't dislike this product. I like ASUS (my laptop is a g55vw), I'm building a new pc with a X79 Sabertooth Mobo, but unfortunately this monitor went bad. I would have RMA'd it, but it wasn't worth the trouble at the beginning of my graduate school's first year. Also, the monitor went bad past Newegg's RMA date.

Better luck next time!

4 out of 5 eggsASUS IPS Display

Pros: IPS Display, running at 1920x1080. IPS meaning that you'll get very good picture quality out of the box much better than that of your standard TN type displays. If you're looking for an accurate picture you'll need one of these. The bezel on this display is very nice, great if you want to buy multiple displays and put them side by side. The speakers are passable for what is supposed to be a desktop display, and they seem to come from the bottom bezel of the display and point downward toward the desk.

Cons: The black level is not that great to be honest and it MASSIVELY needs to be calibrated out of the box. The red is too bright, and needs to be adjusted down, once that is done, it's easily in line with some of the best displays out there. I'm very hard on the monitors that I buy when it comes to picture quality, and color representation, It kinda goes without saying, but it's head and shoulders above any TN display you'll find.

Other Thoughts: I need to test if the USB ports will work on the side even when the USB passthrough is not plugged in. It'd be nice to be able to plugin a phone to charge without having to connect that cable.

2 out of 5 eggsThis isn't a good monitor...

Pros: -Great Colors on bright images
-Pivot, swivel, and tilt work nicely.

Cons: -Terrible blacks... they are too dark and crushed together.
-Poor speakers, they are only there to jack up the price.
-Limited menu options, you won't be able to adjust all that much.
-All of the alternative display settings are terrible.
-The infamous IPS "glow" is highly noticeable with this monitor. Its very distracting, and it create poor viewing angles in dark scenes.

Other Thoughts: This is a bad monitor in general. If you want a great IPS monitor, I would recommend spending slightly more so you don't end up with something mediocre like this.

4 out of 5 eggsPivot feature works great!

Pros: I've used two of these for about 9 months and they work very well. I chose these monitors almost entirely for the PIVOT feature, which is very unique and lives up to my expectations. I have one monitor in landscape and one monitor in portrait right next to each other, and they look great. The stands work out-of-the-box, which was easy/convenient (and saved money on a third-party stand). Very satisfied.

Cons: The built-in speakers are absolutely horrendous (but who cares, that wasn't why I purchased these). The bezel is quite large. And the default color/brightness configurations are pretty weird.

Other Thoughts: Very nice. In retrospect maybe the product is slightly overpriced? But that's not really for me to decide, is it...

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Panel

Pros: This monitor blew me away from the moment I opened the box. My old panel was an Acer 24" TN panel thats about 3 years old, which was fine but I wanted to be able to do slightly more accurate color work so I went shopping for an IPS panel. This monitor is sturdily built, with a killer stand that INCLUDES VESA MOUNTING HOLES which makes is much better than other value IPS panels, along with having full support for Displayport, which was the only port available on my Radeon 290. The color is fantastic and within a few days I really noticed how much sharper the blacks were than on my old monitor, even though my office positions my desk with a window behind me pouring light on the panel. Impressive, to say the least. Also, the built in USB hub helped me out as I ran out of ports on my ASUS m5a97.

Cons: There are only a few cons I can find on this monitor. The first one is that its quite heavy for a screen. If you are someone who likes to go to LANs or is just moving around their setup a lot like I am, you're probably better off finding another monitor for that. I'm lucky with my second monitor being the 24" Acer thats as light as a feather. The other thing, to be expected, is the poor quality of the built in speakers.Though I usually have my headphones on anyways, sometimes I want to show a colleague a funny video or what have you, and the speakers just aren't up to par.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I am quite happy with this monitor and will give it the full score of 5 eggs. I would gladly recommend this to a friend and already have. It helps a ton with editing pictures and screenshots for color more so than any TN panel on the market can boast and I will look forward to any future "high resolution" versions of the IPS panel from LG and Asus's rebrand of their panel. Fantastic product.

5 out of 5 eggsOdd Cable

Pros: Inexpensive, speakers, USB ports, and it rotates.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: One went bad. Asus was quick to replace. I sent it back in the original box and got one back in an ordinary box with suitable packing. I thought that was curious.

Question: What is the "odd" cable? Not the VGA or DVI or audio or USB, but the one I've never seen before?

2 out of 5 eggsGood Monitor but didn't last long

Pros: -Great size
-Nice support for various input types

Cons: Started flickering randomly through out the day for 1-2 hours at a time. I've only had the monitor for 5 months. Really thought it would take at least 1-2 years before the backlight started showing issues. I guess ASUS is cheaping out on build materials.

Other Thoughts: I've always been an ASUS guy but it seems like as they grow as a company and demand increases for their various lines of products that duds like mine will begin to slip by the QA team.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good, but...

Pros: The IPS panel is a clear step up from TN, after experiencing this I don't want to go back to using TN panels.
You can get both dark blacks and bright whites, much more range than a TN screen.
The biggest plus is the minimized color/value shifting due to viewing angle. If you're an artist this is great.

This is one of the cheapest IPS monitors I could find with such a good base. It's very solid, no wobble, and has a lot of articulation options.

Cons: The menu buttons are a little odd to use being in a vertical setup and not ordered intuitively. This makes it a bit of a pain to calibrate, but once that's done you don't need them.

After 6 months one of those buttons malfunctioned and jammed the screen on a bad color mode. It's currently being RMA'd.

Other Thoughts: I'm not going to hold the button malfunction against this too hard yet, but it would be nice if it just worked. This is my 3rd ASUS screen and the first 2 are still going strong.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Monitor

Pros: Very clear and responsive, auto sleeps when no connection found, very slim bessel, very nice view angle. All around a great monitor.

Cons: Only con, and its not a big one, nor probably fixable but the speakers pop when windows boots on.
