Concept to Creation. Precision to the Finest Detail.

A new killer equipment for digital content creation and entertainment, the ASUS PB Series PB278Q LED monitor incorporates exciting performance and features demanded by professionals and designers. A colossal 27" screen size means more viewing real estate, 2560 x 1440 WQHD packs four times the pixels of 720p, so you can see more content on the screen and accomplish tasks with less mouse roll. The LED display affords 178° wide viewing angles for better productivity. ASUS exclusive Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, QuickFit Virtual Scale, and 100% sRGB fidelity ensure reality-defining color and image accuracy, complete with rich stereo sound from twin 3W speakers. An ergonomic design allows easy adjustment of tilt, swivel, pivot, and height, enabling you to enjoy the visual brilliance in extreme comforts.

  • newegg True-to-life Visuals The PB278Q features a 16:9 aspect ratio and a LED-backlit 27” WQHD display that provides 109 pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in high quality 2560 x 1440 visuals – equaling four times the resolution of standard 720p sets. It allows users to view greater image detail and do more with an onscreen footprint larger than that of standard displays. The screen’s 109PPI density means there are 109 RGB matrices within one inch. Generally, the more pixels a display has, the more lighting (or power) those pixels require to achieve the best visuals. However, with advanced LED backlighting on the PB278Q, power and energy savings are no longer compromised, while better visuals are assured.
  • newegg Made for Work and Play The ASUS PB278Q provides an ultra-wide 178° viewing angle on both horizontal and vertical planes, thereby minimizing onscreen color shift even when viewed from extreme angles. With its WQHD display, you enjoy 77% more desktop space than a full HD screen to spread out your windows and palettes. It is also about 25% sharper than a generic 27” full HD display, delivering ultra-smooth visuals thanks to 5ms (GTG) response time. This ensures you get lag-free experiences in movies and gaming, with the latter looking more vivid, with all in-game details shown in true color. The ASUS PB278Q is undoubtedly your best choice for work and play.
  • newegg QuickFit Virtual Scale for true what you see is what you get ASUS includes its exclusive QuickFit Virtual Scale feature with the PB278Q, allowing you to preview photos and documents on-screen in their actual size prior to printing. It can be activated via a monitor hotkey, and serves as a highly useful guide to accurately view and edit photos in their native size.
  • newegg Splendid Video Intelligence Technology Driven by a precision color engine that automatically analyzes and determines the nature of your current task, Splendid Video Intelligence Technology adjusts display parameters accordingly to ensure color accuracy and image fidelity. Six preset modes (scenery, theater, sRGB, standard, and two user-customizable modes) can be quickly selected via a designated hotkey.
  • newegg Extensive Connectivity The PB278Q features a host of connectivity options that include HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2, and dual-link DVI for native WQHD, plus D-sub for full HD 1080p content transmission. Twin built-in 3W speakers provide quality audio for a completely immersive home theater experience.
  • newegg Designed with You in Mind The PB278Q offers a highly ergonomic and smart design that comes with tilt, pivot, swivel, and height adjustments to ensure an always-comfortable viewing and usage experience. Its smart cable management further promotes clutter-free spaces for work and enjoyment.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate from previous review

Pros: .

Cons: .

Other Thoughts: Turns out this isn't a PLS monitor. It appears Asus has decided to use an AHVA panel without any official announcement for the 2014 models. It's not entirely a bad thing though as most of us don't notice much of a difference since the color quality is still amazing and still runs on 2560x1440 native resolution. If anything, we're probably better off since it now PWM free(no flicker). Getting the icc profile made color for the monitor look a bit nicer. And one last thing, although I can't 100% confirm, I read from a review by NCX about the 2014 Asus 278Q/278QR model that using a dual link DVI provides significantly better color accuracy than using displayPort. Also keeps response time between 1-3ms.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for FSX or P3D

Pros: I moved up for a 22" Samsung after do a lot of research. This ASUS monitor is superb right out of the box. Someone had warned that the aircraft gauges would be too small in the virtual cockpit, but that's not the case. They scaled perfectly. Also, I've noted very little if any performance hit. My video card is the EVGA Superclocked GTX 780 with the advanced cooling. Once again, I'm blown away by the resolution, colors, and performance.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: The monitor itself is sitting at a slight angle to the stand. It's not a big deal because I can simply turn the stand slightly to line the monitor up but that makes it just a little less than "perfect". Still it's 5 eggs without a doubt.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat monitor

Pros: Have been using this monitor at work for over a year and absolutely love it. Bought the 2nd unit from Newegg when the price was $399 during Black Friday. Please note that the effect is the best at maximal resolution.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsLove this monitor

Pros: -2560x1440 native resolution
-pls monitor
-5ms
-Monitor made by Asus
-No dead pixels
-Height adjustable

Cons: For some reason the screen is slanted like 1-2 millimeters to the right(monitor can rotate from horizontal to vertical by rotating only to the right, but it's only off by 1-2 mm). Wouldn't consider it a major issue as I corrected this but putting a few pieces of paper under the the right side to raise it and level it out.

Other Thoughts: Got this for 480$ which I consider a steal for the price as most native 1440p monitors go for well over 600$(brand named ones at least, this is originally priced at 760$). Shipped to my house next day by newegg to rhode island after I paid for rush processing(2.99, 3-day shipping option). Didn't think it'd come in so quickly, but it was pretty awesome.

5 out of 5 eggsPB278q

Pros: Great stand, beautiful display, no dead pixels. I'm a first person shooter and the 60Hz works just fine. Every possible connection comes with a cord.

Cons: Just wish the provided cords were 1 foot longer.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect

Pros: Beautiful Display. The colors and clarity are amazing
The stand does everything. Twist, turn, tilt, swivel, height adjust
No Dead Pixels/Everything was sealed

Cons: Some backlight bleed, but I guess its to be expected.

Response time/ input lag is noticeable compared to my previous monitor-After a week of everyday use it is not noticeable at all. The only game I noticed this was on was BF4

Buttons other than the power feel cheap.

Other Thoughts: Coming from a Gateway FHD2400 1920x1200 3ms TN I will never go back. It took me about a week to get used to the response/input but now I don't notice it at all. (That was my biggest worry) Coming from a glossy screen it took a while to get used to semi matte finish but I still prefer glossy. The speakers are not that good but are better than what most will lead you to believe. They don't deserve to be a con or to knock off an egg.

If you're debating whether or not to step up from 1080 or 1200 to 1440 you absolutely should. The real estate and detail is amazing. The immersion puts you right in the game.
I mostly play BF4 and Arma 3 and they look absolutely stunning at 1440. Arma should be bundled it looks so good.

1 out of 5 eggsScreen tearing and flickering

Pros: Monitor is big and can display what my computer is showing.

Cons: I use this monitor mostly for multimedia and there are two main issues with it:

1. My monitor has horrible horizontal screen tearing issues. I'm aware that the refresh rate on this monitor is 60hz and that screen tearing will show up when fps goes above 60. However, even when watching TV (through a TV tuner), the monitor shows screen tearing. I downloaded Fraps and found that the TV streams at 60fps, yet I still get massive horizontal screen tears, which should not be the case if the refresh rate is 60hz.

2. My monitor would flicker once every other day. Some parts of the screen would flash a black line for a split second. This is the most annoying when I'm reading a document without much movements on the screen. The flickering isn't constant but sure is annoying.

You would think that after paying over $400 for a monitor that you would at least be able to watch TV through a TV tuner without any issues and get a screen that does not flicker.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize for the tearing and flickering issue your ASUS PB278Q LCD monitor is displaying. Have you tried resetting your LCD monitor back to factory settings? Also, what output source do you have your LCD connected to? If you are using a display port, please make sure that you are using a DP 1.2 cable, and that your monitor is set up for the correct settings. You may also check to see if there is a driver update for your graphics card to help with the tearing issues. If you have any other inquires feel free to email me at cl-jolene@asus.com with reference number N141248055.

Thank you for being a loyal ASUS customer!

Best regards,
Jolene
